How the Machine Wins
A Cook County Judge sentenced Ald. Bernard Stone’s (50th) former ward superintendent and another man to jail today for attempting to improperly steer votes toward Stone in the hotly contested 2007 aldermanic race.
Anish Eapen, 40, and Armando Ramos, 36, both “attempted to steal democracy,” Judge Marcus Salone said before sentencing Eapen to 364 days in jail and Ramos to 270 days in jail.
Eapen, who was handpicked by Stone to serve as a ward superintendent, and Ramos would target primarily Indian and Pakistani voters and coax them to take absentee ballots, prosecutors said.
Both would watch as voters filled out the absentee ballot applications and forms for both the 2007 February general election and the run-offs in April later that year when Stone edged out challenger Naisy Dolar.
At least one woman, Hema Panchigar, who isn’t registered to vote, testified in November that Eapen filled out her ballot. She signed the ballot, as did all her relatives, but said during the drawn out bench trial, “I didn’t mark anything.”

Salone should be in jail himself.
He is a former cop, and a former private defense lawyer, and quite the shady character himself.

Judge Marcus Salone was a copper and worked Tact with us back in the day.
When he was in the academy, they pulled him out early where he worked undercover and infiltrated a Westside Organization and provided information to our Intelligence Unit on their activities. In fact, they liked him so much they elected him president of the organization, unaware of course, of his affiliation with the CPD.
Later, the unit referred to as 'The Red Squad,' was disbanded after a long series of lawsuits and depositions regarding their activities.

Do you think this sort of thing happened all across America in attempted to get the "Holy One" elected!
They hardly got any jail time considering that their guy got elected and received kick backs. Once they get out they will still be taken care of.
Good thing 'nintendo used his phone call to lockup Cozzi instead of wasting in on something silly like public corruption. That was a wise move.
Winston Towers, Stone goes in there and gets absentee ballot votes, gets a big edge on whoever he runs against. Wins easily. Stone has been doing the absentee ballot scheme for years and years. All those nursinng homes on Sheridan Road and Touhy, hundreds of absentee votes,

By taking three yrs. to reach this conclusion, any effect that these two had on the election is moot. The opponent may have been robbed of the election and the citizens of the 50th Ward have also been robbed. Bernie is one of those who will not run for re-election because he is now virtually senile. Someone I know went to him for a favor, and Bernie fell asleep in the middle of the conversation! So once again the Machine won. Justice delayed is Justice denied.

Wouldn't want to spoil anyone's life with a felony conviction, would we -- whether they "stole democracy" or not.

He was pretty much senile last time he ran. 50th ward citizens were definitely robbed. It's time to bring the 50th ward out of the Stone age. Maybe they'll get a better alderman next time. Or is that too much to hope for?
