Police and Animal Control officers suspended their search for an alligator this afternoon in the North Branch of the Chicago River in West Lakeview until after 10 p.m., when the animal may be easier to find.
The person claimed to have seen an alligator at about 11:30 a.m. near the 3400 block of North Rockwell Avenue, said Chicago Police News Affairs [...].
Eloy Navarro, one of those who saw the alligator at Clark Park on the east bank of the Chicago River, behind Lane Tech High School, described the alligator as "just a baby."

let's be careful not to hurt the peaceful alligator, we don't want to go thru all the "cougar" drama again---- maybe this time the peta people will burn down the right house in michigan......
I heard that call today while working my beat car. It was described by units on the scene as approx. 3 ft in length. It sounded as if he was just hanging out on the river bank. Units on scene were just waiting for either the Marine Unit or Animal Control to show up... You ever waited for Animal Control? OMG!

Another witness has come forward, identifyin the creature in the river as a snake, not a gator.

They Got the Gator! Channel 7 showed 019 Cmdr standing there when it was caught. Side note: Cameraman had to switch to a wide angle lense to get the tact. Lt in the frame.
