"Predictive Analysis" Input

  • Students at Chicago Public Schools will be getting a telephone hot line to report information about the possible outbreak of violence, and officials hope it will help prevent shootings and beatings that can erupt when the dismissal bell rings.

Gov. Pat Quinn signed a law today requiring the Chicago Board of Education to work with city police to create the hot line by January, though officials were unclear whether the phone line will be up by then. Students will be able to report information anonymously, but the calls must be recorded by police, who also are charged with investigating the tips.

Information about the hot line, including the yet-to-be-established phone number, must be posted in each school.
Kids are going to be misusing this number for any number of reasons. Calling in BS fights or baby momma drama or staging incidents in the hallways. Some will be foolishness. Some will be feints to draw police away from other duties. It's happening now if you're paying attention.

In this day and age, we don't need to be responding to more calls. We need to responding to less calls. The filters have to go on and people need to be told, "The police aren't coming to your nonsense" and then stick to it so the Department is able to handle serious police issues and not social problems on how to raise kids. We can't be everything to everybody and this is just one more bit of nonsense.

Why would they make such a silly law after they said crime was down? This sounds like a joke, but our mush of a Gov. made it law. More Government waste and spending. Remember crime is down. Can't wait to get rid of these Democrats.

A repeat of what the old School Patrol Unit did when they had installed Police in all Chicago Public High Schools in June-1990 and was disbanded in 2001 after thousand's and hundred's of arrest.

20-year old gang-banger that were still freshman with half a credit, bringing with them drug's, weapon's, exploiting the freshman girl's and getting them pregnant, recruiting the freshman coming in to join and selling drug's, joining the gangs, and thus creating hell!!!!!!!!!

We had a Police-Room, Phone's, and later Computers. we had to fight with the Board of Education and the City and our own Dept. to allow us in making the Police Rooms a safe haven for all the kids, and it becoming the off site Official-Police Room with pax-line, computer/PDT set-up, metal-detectors, uniforms-dress for the kids, security put into uniforms, and a slew of other idea's like working with all the School Unit Area's, Tact-Teams, and Area-Detectives in helping to solve crimes that happened within our Schools/Districts and into other area's across the city.

We are the one's that brought the school's in line and is the reason why the success is what it is today, all of the political as well as the Board of Education and everyone in between would have you believe that they cleared up this mess. Even Crime Watch got in on the act along with the city and Board of Education.

Remember! the city and the Bd. of Ed. lost the school's to theses idiots long ago, 30-50years back and we had cleaned it up in 16-years, go figure!!!

Now you have all these young bosses that were still in diapers or coming out of them back then and now think that they are coming up with all these new ideas.

Why fix something that isn't broke? Now they have newer problems and that's because they keep changing what does work and try and come up with something that they think is a new concept when in fact it is just a repeat.

I only hope that the recent shootings of Police does not catch on and having more of these knuckleheads shooting at the Police is a nightmare waiting to happen.

Please be careful and go home to your families every night. Back each other up so that no one else becomes a victim! Help to stay united and working with what we have is all that is left.

To all my brothers and sisters on this job, may god bless you and keeping you safe is our goal.

I plan on calling this yet-to-be-determined number numerous times daily to berate the CPD upper-echelon and outline the numerous faults that exist in this piss-poor department.

When I'm extra-bored, I plan on calling and asking for advice, guidance and life lessons from the Policy Group slugs that will be manning the lines..."So does 4.50% sound worth refinancing..?"

Of course I will be smart enough to orchestrate this tomfoolery via cellular telephones commandeered while on street stops and from assorted Department lines while working Special Employment in various parts of the city.

My Predictive Analysis???...

This Hot Line Number goes the way of the Dodo Bird mere months after it's arrival.

P.S. - FUCK YOU, J-Fled.

Hello out there/their fellow gang and tactical warriors!

Sorry SCC but you are a fool. Like many older policemen, you neglect to change with the times and the futuristic advances our department is trying to head in.

For all the little warriors out there, reading this blog, please feel free to call my new tactical number: 1-800-TACTICAL-TOOL.

Little school warriors, this number is for emergency purposes only. Call this number if you witness people drinking on the street, people urinating on the street, or groups of people loitering. (that means standing in a spot for a long period of time without doing anything)
And most importantly, if you witness anyone running in and out of traffic, call immediately!

With each call that results in an arrest, each student warrior will recieve a gift of a Chicago bar, a pair of Osh Kosh B'Gosh tactical jeans, plus an autograph portrait of yours truly.

Look forward to hearing from you little warrior maniacs! However, please don't call between the hours of 6pm to 6am. That's when Uncle Warrior goes to the gym, tanning salon, then to the magical land of Teasers. That's where I try to get whales drunk off of Apple Pucker and then harpoon them.

Until next time, take care out there/their fellow tactical warriors.

What bothers me most about this "Predictive Analysis" voodoo horseshit is that you know idiots in positions of authority are going to take it seriously and actually drain human resources to chase imaginary phantoms, fabricated by some computer algorithm.

This is beyond idiotic.

There are chess computers that can crush the greatest human players, because Chess is a totally quantifiable game and computer are better at that than us.

While there have been some valiant (and somewhat impressive) attempts, there will never be a poker computer that defeats the best players, simply because poker is a game of qualitative, imperfect information, just like police work is.

What separates man from machine is the ability to process organic, unquantifiable information and resolve it into a reasonably accurate answer. Computers will NEVER be better than man at this. There is nothing in the capabilities of a computer that can decipher the motivations of a human being, but a good copper can do it and THAT, friends, is real "Predictive Analysis".

The best predictive analysis Chicago has ever known did not come from a computer. It came from the man on the street who drew from his experience, wisdom and situational knowledge to get one step ahead of the bad guys.

To try and reduce this deeply human and unquantifiable pursuit into a fixed-function computer program- that simply sorts numbers into different programmed 'buckets' and calculates them for probability- is completely fucking absurd to anyone who understands jack shit about programs, or people.

Of course, everyone wants to believe in the 'next big thing' and all too often, in pursuit of it, they wind up discarding the best solution in the process.

You take 10,000 "Predictive Analysis" programs, give me one street-grizzled copper. I bet my man makes significantly more headway in fighting crime than your computer, at significantly less cost and with significantly less negative impact.

That is something I am surprised took so long to be mentioned. For too long the standard answer at CAPS meetings for ANYTHING is "Call 911" like a broken record they would dish off any question with that cookie cutter response. Well, who's going to be the one to stop it now. Barking dogs, someone working on a car, or my tenant didn't pay for his room calls have to stop.

'My twelve year old won't mind me' and 'make my kid go to school' were always my favorites. I'd rather get a cat up a tree call than try to parent kids whose parents abandoned their responsibility years earlier.

But hey, we're the police, so 911 sends us out on these stupid calls.

This crime about to happen hotline, proposed by Representative Monica Davis and passed by the Illinois legislature and signed into law by Gov. Quinn, will waste resources, be used to make crank and misleading calls, and will not reduce instances of violent behavior. However, it is not as foolish and unrelated to crime fighting as the new, onerous, expensive Chicago gun registration scheme. Then again, both are foolish.

What they forgot to mention is that the computers who spit out the predictive analysis are under union contract and are allowed two fifteen min breaks, a personal and half-hour lunch and they DO NOT TAKE IN ANY INFORMATION DURING THESE BREAKS.
What makes it even more complicated is that there are not enough computers on staff to pick up the slack.

Will you be there when the 60 year old + Hype is selling lose cigarettes?

Will you affect an arrest?

Will you be scared if somebody tells you they want a report?

I mean what if you on view a traffic crash otw to your 3 hour lunch? What would you ever do?

Or will you run quickly & noti the zone that a paper car is required?

Will you wear your hat on backwards and have no star and name tag?

Do you really have what takes?

I need to know, I need to know there are more lil fighters out there such as yourslef.

The thing that amazes me is that it had to become a law in order for the CPS & CPD to do this. I do agree that it might get misused by some but if we can stop any possible shooting of an innocent person it will be worth it. People might be willing to text or leave a message with details then get caught talking to police.

The drug peddlers stalk honest, productive, tax paying cittizen's children to school as they try to force families into slavery and extort money and property from them.

The students need to have the capacity to report crimes against them too, it is not. Waste of money and Quinn is the only politician, besides Monique Davis, to address the issue of crime.

Laws sometimes have to be added, such as the law signed into effect by former Gov Blago that parents can be arrested for giving their children weapons to hurt others.

We need 2,000 more Officers and doing this, Quinn is spotlighting there is a problem in law enforcement and the result is rampant crime.

OT-

great pinch by the 014 burglary team, who grab 2 subjects for breaking into a yuppie house in bucktown. offenders waited until the maale resident left the house, then put on rubber gloves and kick in the door, enter the house, only to find the wife and daughter watching tv. the terrified wife calls 911, and the offenders flee. the a/o's gave chase on the tracks on bloomingdale and catch the offenders.

here's the kicker- the 3rd watch lt refuses to approve the arrest reports because the charge was attempt burglary. she YELLED AND SCREAMED her head off like she always does, and said there's no way we're going to sandbag these 2 guys with attempt burglary charges because there's no act of furtherance on the part of the offenders. good victims, shithead offenders, and a terrible lt- the only thing to come out of it was criminal trespass. i guess putting on rubber gloves, kicking in a door, and actually entering the residence wasn't enough. it's no wonder why burglaries are thru the roof in that neighborhood.

to be fair, i shouldn't have made a big point of the fact that Lt. H yelled and screamed her head off and berated the a/o's and inv. dicks. that's her normal tone for regular conversation. i'd hate to see her pissed. people skills and ability to lead are definitely not her strong suit.
