Strangling Chicago

  • It's another dubious honor for Chicago.

Just as Illinois touts its first sales-tax holiday, a new report highlights Chicago as having the highest retail sales tax in the nation, at 9.75 percent once county, mass transit and city taxes are added to the statewide 6.25 percent sales tax.

Chicago just edged out Los Angeles, which has a 9.5 percent sales tax rate.In its annual survey, information services company CCH Inc. said consumer taxes for retail items, gas and cigarettes continued to climb in many states.
Thanks again to Shanks, Toddler and Quinn.

By just crossing Harlem Avenue to Elmwood Park, the Sales Tax on groceries goes from 9.75% to 2.75%.

I can't think of anything I buy in Chicago anymore. When I retire and move away I will keep my Chicago voting address just to fuck with Shorty.

Go to Amazon.com and become a Prime member. 2nd day air shipping is FREE and of course, NO Chicago, Cook county or State of Illinois sales tax! Buy your cigars from JRCIGARS.com, again, no Illinois or Chicago tax. Cigars end up being half what they cost in Chicago.

Screw the thieving bastards of Chicago and Cook County.

I'll be right behind or right in front of you. My new teams are the Phoenix Cardinals, Arizona Diamondbacks and Phoenix Coyotes.

Fuck anything that begins with the word "Chicago" unless it is a headline that reads "Chicago Mayor Sentenced to 30 years in Federal Prison"

OT

Just an FYI for retirees. I picked up my retro check today at HQ. I was shorted $4K, I was shorted in the Comp Time buy back category. They left off
$100K just crediting me with any- thing over the $100K. It looks like they can't carry out over five figures.

I worked as a timekeeper/payroll guy at Zenith Radio forty years ago and their payroll system back then was better than the one the city has now and it cost a lot less.

I shop in Indiana. Almost 3% difference in tax. When you're buying a big ticket item, it makes a difference.

Yeah, and it's not just the taxes. Food prices are beginning to sneak upwards again -- a nickel here, a dime there...I notice that Jewel got tired of its "The Big Relief" promotion (and that's about all it was.) It's not as though the economy has improved any. More like "The Big Drain On Your Wallet" again.

Off the top of my head -- Target. Soy sauce, was $1.49, now $1.79. Chow mein noodles, were $1.49, now $1.69.

Death of a Thousand Cuts.

I'm sure the increases on food go to cover the discounts on "school supplies" for people who don't speak English...
