Bloody Weekend?
Lots of headlines all over the place about - what else? - shootings:
- A man was shot while walking along a South Side street Thursday evening has died, officials said Friday.
- An employee at a car wash in the Humboldt Park neighborhood was fatally shot following an argument Friday afternoon, police said.
- A 16-year-old was critically wounded when he was shot in the chest early this morning at a party in the West Side's Austin neighborhood, police said.
- A man was killed and two other victims were wounded in a shooting in Ada Park on the Far South Side tonight, police said.
The mayhem seems to be reaching a fever pitch, but don't worry - it's not nearly as bad as it was 30 years ago. J-Fled has declared it to be so. Just ignore those stories in the papers - the don't have the Shortshanks Seal of Approval.

And on top of it all, this coming week is being forecast to be the HOTTEST weather of the year with heat indices into the 100+ degree range.

Channel 32 news reporting on their weather tonight that we are headed for the hottest week of the year -- 90s, humid, triple-digit heat indices.
*Make sure you've got a freezer full of ice cubes and all kinds of cold stuff at home; gives you something to look forward to along with that shower and roaring a/c. Cold cuts, cheese, potato salad, stuff like that, easy summer picnic fare -- and a hard-boiled egg, sliced, goes real good on that potato salad with a shot of Szeged Hungarian paprika. Energy boost.
*Freeze bottles of Gatorade and water and put them in an insulated bag or cooler; they can stay slushy-icy-cold for hours, even when it's 90.
*If you've got an outside post, bring insect repellent, Deep Woods Off or something. The mosquitoes have picked up real bad due to all the standing water for them to breed in after the floods and your behind WILL GET EATEN ALIVE out there without some DEET. Some low spots in city parks are like the Everglades, still flooded, and you know the bugs are rising up out of there like no one's business at dusk. ZZZZZZZZZZ.
*Check on your elderly neighbors; a lot of them won't admit they need help.
*Watch your back; Crazy Man gon' be out there in force. Clean gun, nice light coat of FP-10 where needed, brush out magazines, everything STRAC.
*Finally -- when all around you are losing their heads, see if you can take a personal. (grin)

Come on... It's not like medical technology has improved at all in the last 30+ years. OT I really believe that all officers need to be aware of the FOP attempting to silence Mike Shields in his attempts to publicize the conflicts of interest the city treasurer has in giving away our pension dollars. I couldn't pick Shields out of a line up but I do know he has done more than any fop board member in informing and protecting the membership from waste and fraud concerning our pension fund. I now Donahue needs to play nice with Dalys friends so he can get a nice no show job after he retires ala Bill Nolan. To bad Mark forgot about all the PO's that don't get all the perks like capt pay and a leased car and free travel to conventions. All of us will need that pension to actually be there. I just hope the FOP realizes it needs to stand up and protect the membership or the membership realizes we need new leadership and make a clean break from the cronyism that plauges are union.
Was on the scene in 022 at Ada park and it was mayhem! Usually at these scenes it's a gangbanging punk who gets killed so who cares?? But here's a 47 year old working man who's never been arrested! This was truly a man who did not deserve to die at the hands of these fu@?ing mutts!
It'll be cooling off in a few weeks and we can all say the slow down in shootings is due to the Supt's plans and strategies that were put in place. 4 to 6 months of reduced crime should get J.W. an extension on the old contract.

Put it towards the mortgage ONLY if you have no other debt. The interest on mortgage is a tax write-off; the interest on charge cards and car loans isn't. Pay off the stuff that costs you the most, then think about the mortgage.

Okay, if you are the police, Rule number one: TELL NO ONE. You have already violated this rule, so let me explain.
Neighbors have disputes over dog bites and driveway territory. You run into people who know you when you shop at your suburban Walmart. Fender-benders tend to reveal your true address and other info.
In other words, shut up about moving out. Be as nice as pie to your neighbors and tell them you're a maintenance person or an actor or a consultant who's on call (therefore the odd hours). Trust no one and find a foolproof city address to use. Never, ever bring a uniform home.
There is no real residency team anymore, but there's nothing to stop someone with a grudge from getting a number on you. Six years is a very LONG time to have to keep your head down.
Oh, and don't put the house in the spouse's name and think you're slick. Several guys have lost EVERYTHING when the spouse decided she liked the suburban lifestyle but not the husband. She's already the owner of the house, so you get left with half a car when she divorces you.

Probably Especially if the interest rate is over 5%
If you have any other types of debt credit cards especially or a car note with a high interest rate, pay that even before the mortgage.

fourty four (44) shooting incidents with fifty seven (57) people shot.
One incident in 022 with six (6) people shot- one dead.
A few other shootings with multiple victims all over the city but mostly on the South Side.
