TASER Attrition?

We know the Department has been reducing manpower via not hiring.

We're pretty sure the Department is eliminating captains by not promoting.

Now we hear the Department is in the process of stiffing another vendor, namely TASER International. And as a result, TASERs going down for repairs are not being repaired - or replaced - at the district level. From the comments:
  • did they mention in the article that the city hasn't paid for service on the existing tasers? And when they down for repair, they are down for good, no replacements. And that each district is issued 21 tasers and when the supply runs out that's it? all because the city refuses to pay to keep the dept in working equipment.
We checked with our local radio/rifle/TASER officer and it appears to be true as we're down a few TASERs already with nothing on the horizon. He says he's talked to Equipment and Supply and they have no TASERs available should one be rendered non-functional.

We guess that means the article about TASER usage being up will be another article about TASER usage being down once we run out.

Typical City Bullshit.

Wait for the rifles to fail at a critical time because there is no manpower from the range armorers to check and maintain them. I haven't see the shotguns even dusted lately in the W/C's office.

Wait for some alderman to figure out Taser Intl is Arizona based and we have to "boycott" them.

I personally plan to spend part of next spring in AZ seeing a lot of baseball games.

I heard from a good source a year ago that the city never negotiated a repair contract when they aquired these tasers ( very forward thinking as usual). Every taser they sent in for repair taser was billing 500-800 dollars. If this is true I'm sure tasers will be a victim of attrition, just like our man power

Not paying the bill is a long standing business practice for the City of Chicago. Despite sitting on over a billion in cash TIF funds and near a billion in capital asset sales proceeds, the City refuses to pay normal everyday bills due to non-clout non-connected vendors.

Oracle has also not been paid, hence, no updates to CLEAR.

There are others. The City of Chicago is a deadbeat. This has been going on for years, it is just much worse now.

Get your car damaged by a city vehicle, tough shit. You will wait a long time to get money. And then, after a long wait, you will likely be offered a settlement, 75 cents on the dollar, or be forced to wait longer.

Mayor Mumbles at work. do you think Michael Tadin or the others have to wait as long for their money? Of course not. Not if they kick back into a campaign fund.

I would seriously doubt the $500-800 figure for Taser repair as the Tasers themselves don't cost that much and the consumables can be purchased in bulk at a reduced price. There really isn't much to repair/replace on these things so one has to wonder why they seem to be disappearing.

They get some money, usually federal, they buy something, usually from a connected source. Then do not pay for the upkeep.

Remember, the TASER Cameras.

The next person who runs for Mayor should have the Battle Cry, "Audit the City's Books and End the Corruption Tax!"

Speaking of taxes, and I mean TAXES, one of the little gems tht the Democrats snuck in to pay for the health care of millions of non-producing citizens and non-citizens is a New Federal 3.8% Sales Tax on Real Estate Transactions.

So when you sell your $400K city mansion to downsize out of town when you retire you get stuck with a $15,200.00 tax bill for pay for Obamacare for the masses.

This TAX will kick in after the 2012 elections so as not to help ruin the Messiah's chances for reelection.

This along with a lot of other gem that Nancy Pelosi said, "We have to pass this bill so we can see what is in it."

Stay safe and get everyone you can to Register and Vote!

The City's bond rating was just reduced. Now the poo-poo will hit the fan. Getting Tasers fixed will be the least of our problems. Everything Daley was doing to the budget, including demanding arbitration, was to keep the bond rating from being lowered. Now that it's happened regardless, City Hall is going to go nuts on the budget to keep it from being done by the other rating companies. The problem is that he knows he can't raise taxes in an election year. I can promise you though, the 2012 budget will see a substantial city property tax increase. Along with the County (new prez, don't you know), and a likely state income tax increase.

I predict Daley will lower our ranks to between 10,500 and 11,000. That's another 1500 to 2000 down. Hold on...

Like every other piece of technology that the department buys, they fail to realize that there will be on-going upkeep expenses that have to be included.

For all the controversy, the TASER is probably the best tool the department has allowed in the last 40 years. With the very liberal use guidelines, the SH's on the street know that you can shoot them only under extreme limited circumstances, anything above a dirty look with an aggressive act will get them tickled. And they don't like it. It saves a lot of injuries to both sides.

Such a lack of planning is scary. If they can't plan to procure consumable items like ammo, TASER cartridges, etc, how prepared are they for a real emergency??

Citizens, you are on your own. The City has abandoned you.

Perhaps they will cross the border and sneak into Mexico and go to a sanctuary city where they will get food coupons, a welfare cash card, rent subsidies, drive through alleys in a pickup truck and no drivers license up picking up scrap metal and then go on marches protesting how they are treated.

Or maybe they will just encounter the Mexican police who will kill them on the spot and leave their bodies to rot in the desert.

Look at the town of Lagrange,Il. very close to Chicago but thriving! Why? They just built a new multi-level parking garage, and all the street parking is FREE! The downtown area is great, clean and safe, and businesses cannot wait to open a place! Chicago is sinking fast Archer once a thriving area for business is looking more and more like the englewood business district everyday! Time to vote them all OUT!!

Great post. Unfortunately it coincides with our economy. Look at all the factories and business closed on 65th street in Bedford Park. A lot of those people use to be in Unions making a decent wage and living in Garfield Ridge/Clearing. People that use to support the businesses on Archer and 63rd. Not only is it the high taxes and inspectors, but lack of customers in the area.

Having tasers is nice, but if they do down and not get replaced, we'll do what the revolver police used to do before tasers...use the wood shampoo or just shoot the
!*%&heads.

Just remember that if you are justified hitting someone in the head with a baton you are also justified in shooting with a gun. Both are considered deadly force.

FYI information the guy doing this drives a White Street and sans full size van, he works out of the 23rd ward yard 5556 S. Central not going to name him but he lives in Garfield ridge works for alderman Zalewski, he is about 55 years old Hispanic, the van is parked in the ward yard in case you want to see it, he told me that all laws need to be enforced including guys who park in the ward yard! Talk about shitting where you live, personally next time I see the van i will make sure he does not violate any laws, and will keep an eye on his block and enforce all the laws and make sure his neighbors know it is his idea to ticket them to "enforce the laws" another reason to vote them all out how could an alderman tell this clown to do this?

This is why we shouldn't learn to rely on the taser too much. I can see this happening. And there is nothing we can do about it. Even if they allowed us to buy our own taser (which is what the city will do) use that money to learn how to defend yourself.

Lets face the facts, how many of us uniformed police officers really know how to physically fuck up an assailant who is hell bent on harming you?

I speak from experience; with three years on the job, I only knew the very basics. I then learned some brazilian jiu jitsu and now I am still learning but right now, I have the knowledge to really put the hurt on someone if they want to fight me.

Bottom line, learn how to fight back.

That is very good advice. Deviate from training or department policy and you might have a problem. Noramlly the department will help you. Not now. They will hurt you if any rule or policy is violated. But it is good to hear a officer that stays in shape and learns new skills.

captains are out and so is rank of field lt.
mayor daley and superintendent weiss have figured it out , no field lt assigned to districts for the past two years and watch commanders were always filled in by lts 2 or 3 days a week and now
everyday on second watch and 70 % of 1st and 3rd watch
they also woke up and realized the captains were all lts before becoming captains through a merit political clouted process

that's right not the best and brightest but political hacks and 90 % were merit political hack selected lt and sgts

city cannot afford these promotions

this means that all you political hack clouted merit lts will have to wait to join the command staff of cpd

good luck boys and girls
lts will soon be 100 % merit political clout appointments

rumor is 1 more small class from old list

I am not sure if CPD allows officers to buy their own Tasers. Better to use broken CPD crap than your own well cared for equipment.

I live by that guy and he told me the alderman wants this done! I think he is on his own personal vendetta against the remaining white residents, he is just another racist with some power! But I have friends working that area and they will take an extra special look, at him and how come he is home hiding the van on company time? Hello inspector general1

"Don't you get it.

After the next elections, if you sell your $200-300-400K home you ARE among richest folks that Obama has targeted."

I get it, but I don't think you do. It appears you'd rather scare people with false info.

If you're single the first $250K profit on your home is not taxed. If you're married, the first $500K profit on your home is not taxed. Now you do the math.
