Dart or Meeks?

  • It's Chicago's first open-seat mayoral election in more than 60 years, and the field is wide open.

Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart and state Sen. James Meeks might have the early bragging rights as the nominal front-runners -- but even they don't have all that much to brag about.

Dart and Meeks were the only candidates to score in the double-digits in a new poll prepared exclusively for the Chicago Sun-Times.

It has to be a complete outsider at this point. Someone who can un-bury what has been hidden the past 20-plus years. Chicago is never going to get closure (or reform) if we keep electing insiders, race baiters, ward heelers and the like.

At this point in time, our choices are poor. We can only hope some dark horse candidate with no baggage appears on the horizon.

The one to pity is the next Mayor. All the chickens are coming home to roost at the same time and some very hard and wildly unpopular choices will have to be made. It is almost a certainty that the next Mayor will be a one termer and that does not fit either Dart or Meeks characters...

A bit off-topic: Rev. Wright was on tv today, spouting how it's unimportant who the next mayor will be, 'our youth are dying out here'.

He went on to say the mayoral candidates had better bring to the table some plan to end the killing.

No one can raise your children, Mr. Wright. If their parents, and the community, raise children to have no respect for life, and no sense of self-worth or self-respect, how can a mayor, or a police force, instill that in them? How do we telepathically know who will shoot over imaginary insults and imaginary turf infractions?

Your community, Mr. Wright, needs to take responsibility for proper child-rearing.

Is Chicago a vast wasteland when it comes to political leaders??

Who has a lot of money to run in this race? Maybe we need someone totally outside of politics.

Business leader? Celebrity? Too bad Trump lives in NYC. He has the right amount of celebrity, leadership, moxy, and bucks to give anyone a good race. Say what you want about him, I think he could handle all the factions.

With most of the candidates so far, Detroit here we come.

The next mayor MUST have an 'I don't give a f*ck' attitude in order to "save" Chicago, and the ONLY way to do that is to plan on being the bad guy. Unfortunately, many jobs, programs, funds, accounts and unnecessary expenditures of all types will need to be slashed from the city's budget and that can't be done if you are looking to appease the voters for a second term in office.

AUNT BEA Update...

The secret meetings have begun!

A while back Aunt Bea was in a little hot water for trying to organize her own (support group) Hispanic Organization.

Now that J-Fed has been dealt a devastating blow, Aunt Bea said "I need to start now" referring to her push for Superintendent.

Aunt Bea is trying to build a power base of support rom the Hispanic Exempts. Putting the "arm" on the Brass she helped put in place. From there her plan is to have all Hispanic officers contact their friends who are Alderman and Reverends and try to force her appointment.

She already told a few "I put you there and I can have you removed!"

Look for some damaging info about J-Feds reign being leaked sometime in the near future. The info will go to certain Alderman who will be running for Mayor, but not linked to the "Hispanic coalition."

Aunt Bea did they teach you this counter espionage stuff in bar tender school?

Stay tuned, more to follow.....

I'm not worried about Meeks. He'll get approximately 0% of the white vote, which means at best he could make a lost a runoff. Even wishy-washy "lakefront liberals" will run from that race-baiting asshole. If the black community wants a serious chance, they'd better unite behind someone palatable to the white libs like Sandi Jackson.

I'm not sure if I fear Dart more or Rahm-bo. Either one is going to keep most of the machine up and running.

Speaking of politicians, I got to observe some paranoid behavior from Size 44 Short himself today.

He made himself present at the German Day Parade (Von Steuben) and was perched up in the reviewing stand. As each group in the parade passed they would stop to salute him, sometimes singing whatever passes for the Democratic Party's version of the Horst Wessel Lied. (Maybe the Jody Weisel Lied...different pronunciation of Lied from the Fritz verson by the way) However, when the German American Police Association got to the reviewing stands Shanks withdrew to the back of the reviewing stand, putting a screen of meat shield in between him and the police. It was like he was afraid of something.

Just an observation.

Gee, after 20+ years of Little King Richie and a total of over about 50 years of him and his dad, why are we in such a hell-fire hurry to anoint a new king..I mean mayor.

This is the first time in most of our lifetimes that we have areal choice as to the political, and economic direction of this city and also the state.

LKR has driven business out of the city.

We need to get a wide slate of candidates and hear what each one bring to the table as to his vision and ideas.

What will he/she do to bring business into the city? What kind of relationship with the legislature? Or the downstate faction? (Downstate hates Chicago)

Will he/she continue to push the gun fight?

We can not allow some one younger to come in and take over the Daley Crime machine. If we do that there is no reason to get rid of Daley. And we don't want someone that will just be keeping the seat warm for (God forbid) a 3rd generations of Daley.

Lets not make the same mistake the county made with Obama: A little flash and no substance. Lets find out everything about all the candidates.

Frankly, I don't like any of the names being mentioned, especially anyone connected with the current democrat regime. They are all more of the same old.

Lie, lie, lie! No mere human can hug the huge and round Phat Phil. It is like trying to hug a redwood tree!

Personally, I would like to see former alderman Dorothy Tillman throw her hat in the ring.

Here is a complete sleeper with little poitical experience, but a boatload of $$$.

Desiree Rogers. She was recently an aide/social scheduler for the Obamas at the White House. She's married to John Rogers who is in charge of Ariel Investments--a huge mutual fund company downtown. They have more money than Bayer has aspirin; also, the media loves her.

===================================
She was married to John Rodgers. They have been divorce for some years now.

What about John Garido?

9/12/2010 09:22:00 AM

If you ever met Johnny, you wouldn't have put this on the blog. Think "unsuccessful Alderman Burke" type: arrogant, self important, know it all, got his degree on the Companies time while his partners did his work.....You get it?

Re: Meeks
Meeks lives in South Holland, IL. He can't run for mayor, unless he pretends to live in an apartment or boarded up house (i.e. Iola McGowan vs. Danny Davis, 29th Ward Alderman, 1983).

Re: Dart
I remember a Chicago Defender ad, with then State Representative Dart, Monique Davis and Mary Flowers, calling Maria Pappas racist for daring to run against John Stroger (for Cook County President, 1994). Even Lu Palmer endorsed Pappas over Stroger. Definitely, do not trust Dart!

Did you hear the latest? They are asking Carol Mosely Braun to run. Heard it on WBBM 780 this morning.

Didn't she leave her senate seat with some baggage???? Sorry but I don't see her as a leader.

Is Chicago a vast wasteland when it comes to political leaders??

9/11/2010 05:30:00 AM

Yes, Carol's baggage includes: meetings with a Nigerian dictator, Kgosie Matthews (i.e. Carol's then boyfriend) sexually harassing women in his (or her) office, mom's finances and mom's and/or Carol's tax/money issues.

Ironically in reference to then US Senator Alan Dixon's Clarence Thomas (/Anita Hill), Carol said men don't get sexual harassment, but obviously Carol didn't get it either with Kgosie.

In 2004, Carol ran for US President as "Madam President".

Yes, Chicago is a vast land, when it comes to political leaders. :(
