OT - A Citizen's Ode to Richie

O Daley Boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side.
The summer’s gone and all the roses falling;
It’s you, it’s you did go and my smile is wide.

But not come back when summer’s in the meadow,
Or when the valley’s hushed and white with snow.
Yes, I’ll be here in sunshine or in shadow;
Oh Daley Boy, oh Daley Boy, I despise you so!

But when ye go, and all the Dems are crying,
Your career is dead, as dead as it should be.
I will come and find the place where you are lying,
And kick your corpse and say an Ave there for me.

This Superintendent comes in and ruins the department. Stigmatized all cops as dirty, hires management that has no clue what is going on, worked for the most corrupt Mayor in the history of Chicago, and claims to be the supreme auditor of dirty government?

So who do we back for mayor?

Let's (SCC? FOP?) develop a question pool and see where the potential candidates stand on:

1) Eliminating the residency requirement

2) Making the complainants in CR investigations sign the affidavit before an investigation begins and aggressively prosecuting of those who file false complaints

3) Hiring more police

...your suggestions are welcome...

Good luck in summer school!

9/08/2010 01:33:00 AM

Again no reasons given. Man, I'm starting to really see why people hate us. Just stating he is a Chicago Democrat doesn't give your argument any credibility."

* Richard Daley (either one, but do the phrases "hired trucks", Millennium Park cost over-runs", "Shakman violations/Robert Sorich", "parking meter debacle" and "Meigs Field" just to name a few, ring any bells? If you want to go further back, take a look at former governor-turned-federal judge Otto Kerner, his horse racing dealings and their connection to Old Man Daley)

* Teen-Sex Scandal of Democrat Mel Reynolds

* Convicted Felon Dan Rostenkowski, the man who pushed the Social Security "Windfall" provision, which halves the Social Security EARNED by police officers

* City Clerk Jim Laski

* Rod Blagojevich (I've got this thing [for sale] and it's fucking golden!")

* Todd Stroger - highest sales tax in the country and how many of his relatives work for the county now?

I think that you, like so many others, are so used to hearing "scandal" and "Chicago" in the same sentence, that you've become immune to it. You actually believe that it's business as usual, but it isn't this bad in most of the country. Dirty Chicago Politics used to be amusing to me. Now it's just disgusting to me, and it should be to you, too.

And if people do "hate us" as you say, it isn't because of our political views, it's when we act like the arrogant, criminal pricks that make up most Chicago Democrats that they hate us.

Okay, now are you caught up? All one need do is pick up a newspaper, read a magazine or watch TV.

I just finished smoking a cig outside 35th street and was walking back inside when I saw 2 plain clothes officers walking in ahead of me. At the same time J-Fled said goodnight to the guy at the info desk and began to walk toward the officers on his way out. These two officers saw him and as J-Fled got closer and looked at them and began to say hello these officers stopped and took an immediate right and pointed to the retired/fallen officers star case and walked over to it in order not to talk to J-Fled. I actually felt sorry for the 1st time ever for this guy because he stopped mid word and put his head down(like Charlie Brown) and walked out the door.... he had to know these 2 cops just dissed him. I gotta tip my hat to the 2 cops who did this because it was smooth as silk. I walked past them as they waited for the elevator and they were laughing about it saying "fuck that guy, I hope he is gone soon". Nicely done gents.

********** Rumor Mill **********

J-Fled is looking to sign deal to be OEMC boss before he is chased out of town. He wants to sign the deal by Nov. but as of today 2 more candidates have appeared... uh oohhh

Jimmy Jackson set to retire this spring along with Peterson.

Word out of IAD is Lt. Andrews will be cleared of all wrong doing along with officer Sherry and Ochocki (SOS) and 023 dui king(Fiorito).

There is suppose to be a house cleaning coming of all inside pets and those at callback, they want more cops on the street and they will take anybody.

Inspectors told to hit the streets starting next Thur and hit roll calls on northside, J-Fled thinks that will motivate officers.(more like it will make them hate him more)

Masters will move to CPS after March to assist Huberman if he does not run for Mayor.

FOP Donahue will work for Cook County next year in a cushy roll and will assist Tom Dart during his campaign for Mayor hoping to get a nice spot if he wins.

Daley thinks Ald. Waugs is in the best position right now to become Mayor.

Daley hired a collection of smart people to see if his son has a chance of running for mayor in the future.

Daley ready to ink deal for his autobiography with a big check for his advance. That along with the 1.4 million he has left and he is sitting pretty.

Maggie Daley's cancer is worse then family is letting on.

Daley thinks Sandy Jackson doesn't have a chance in hell to become mayor.

By Jan. all court will be swipe in and out. Still use OT slips for hard copy.

By Summer all police veh's will have cameras if new contract for cameras come through and we actually pay on time which didn't
happen last time.

Dec. will start 2 Detective classes and one more Sgt. class and then all lists to be taken down unless we get rid of J-Fled before then.

Expect announcement early next week about last ditch effort command changes before we run J-Fled out of town. J-Fled thinks if he is still around after the protest march then he can stay til March 1st but insiders think he is gone by Nov. either to OEMC or leaves because Morale is down and he is the cause.

Starting in November all Tact. Lts will no longer have take home cars along with 50% of Intelligence and Narcotics officers.

Also starting in Nov. more foot patrols , J-Fled wants more cops on foot so citizens can see us and the illusion there are more of us.
We may want to bring carnival mirrors also to make us look bigger and taller.

J-Fled overheard praying "Dear lord make me a bird so I can fly far far away from here"... I guess Master Master Masters is Jenny Jenny Jenny.

Take it with a grain of salt until we hear 2nds or 3rds

I thought we are in a time and place where race doesn't and shouldn't matter. I don't care what race or gender the people running for office are but, how about running the best person. This is why Chicago is so messed up! I hope we elect some outsider. If we elect any part of the machine we'll get more of the same. What's the rush? Let's get this right.

Our primary concern is insufficient manpower to protect our citizens and fellow police officers.

You forgot about the pilot program eliminating the 1st watch in some units and districts beginning in 2011. By staggering the two roll calls on the 2nd and 3rd watches each unit and district will have enough manpower and equipment ie. vehicles to actually handle the minute to minute activites.
So far on the radar are the airports, traffic, and pts.

I too think that Ald. Waugs is likely in the best position to become our next Mayor. Although Sandi Jackson is pretty and articulate, she carries the Jackson surname, and there's just too much baggage between the father and son now to be of any positive use for her. Their collective weight has likely stifled HER political aspirations.
Jackson and Peterson will (and should) move their retirement dates up if they have them set for spring.
Why wait? Neither has a snowball's chance in hell of taking over the reins, nor should they.
The proposed 'swiping in and out of court' should have been done years ago. Some Dets. still are playing the old 'sign in, go home, return in the afternoon' game of milking the OT. For some reason, Inspectors fail to nail any of their heads on the wall for this, but let a a patrolman, tact or narcotics officer fail to sign out, or have a discrepancy of any kind....well, you know the drill.
Maybe a camera in the assembly room would help too.
I can see why the City would want to rein in use of the take home squads, but they must consider that the position of tact Lt. isn't what it used to be. They are being shuttled around like every other Lt. to fill W/C holes all over the City now. Removing the minor perk of the take home car will make it that much more difficult for Cmdrs to fill tact Lt. spots.
its bad enough that Tact Lts. are filling in WC holes with ever more frequency in their districts of assignment, but now many Lts. are pretty much using their cars as a mobile office, lugging around all required equipment. That position, once considered the most sought after rank in the dept., is becoming more and more an undesirable one.
I suspect that if the Dept. pulls 50% of cars from Narcotics, you will see a large bailout from there too. Homan Sq. is quite a ride for a lot of officers spread out along the City, especially those who live in 022 or 016/017. And let's not forget, there's no pressure on being a dog assed patrolman in a District now. No tickets, no arrests, no punishment.
Personally, I think the cameras are a good thing. If you're doing your job as you should, they will protect you. If you're going to be stupid, well..that's on YOU.
I also suspect that MD's cancer is worse than the family has stated. I'm not mad at Shortshanks for wanting to be home and keep his spouse comfortable. That, and the fact that the City's coffers are now pretty much TAPPED OUT says it all.
We're going to be in for a much rougher ride here, ladies and gents...strap in and hang on.

Let's review.

Hillard changed police policy immediately after any news story broke criticizing the police. Hillard never once defended the police, even in shootings that were absolutely 100% justified. Hillard changed chase and shooting policy based on nothing more than newspaper stories. Hillard made it clear that if an officer acted, he was on own if the papers didn't like how things turned out.

Cline promoted some of the most incompetent bosses this department will ever see. One of these bosses was promoted to Chief simply because she was his neighbor. Cline set up the cops at SOS to get guns and drugs by any means necessary. At the first news story about SOS "corruption" Cline cut the entire unit lose and sent his favorite boss, who is thankfully now dead, to tell all of the officers in this unit that they were going to go to jail for doing what HE asked them to do.

Weis promoted the same incompetent bosses as did his predecessors. Weis cut lose officers who were criticized by the media and even went so far as to bend the law to put one of these officers into federal prison to please the media.

Weis changed the schedule. I like the new schedule. Weis did one thing that I liked. His predessors did nothing that I liked.

Had Weis never been born, we would be in exactly the same place that we are today, except we still may be working 6 days in a row.

Weis simply represents the anger we all have about the state of policing in America today. Unfortunately for us, the state of policing won't change with Weis' departure. Only one thing will change how the PUBLIC sees policing. Crime. We can only hope they learn their lesson sooner rather than later.

So, if we insist on marching, let's march for something that matters. Time has shown us that the identity of the superintendent is irrelevant. In the end they all act the same. They all act in their best interest, not ours.

If we're going to march let's march for indemnification. Now that's something that matters.

Don't spend your time wasting time.

This is one of the most sensible and straightforward posts I have read here in quite a long time. We do need to focus on the connection between our current society and our working conditions, and bring to the front issues like indemnification, promotions, training, and issues of Department policy.

Promoting this singular animus against Weis really only serves to obscure the real issues we should have with the state of policing in Chicago and this country, for that matter.

And that is what Daley has wanted all along.

Bravo!

Well put on both counts.

There is a sense that there's much more to the focus on marching at HQ than what meets the eye.

Just a feeling of some ill, bad and unpleasant ju-ju regarding this... Like dude trying to play you off while he's walking away and you can't quite see his hands.

Again, j-fled isn't the only source of a Policeman's ire and the whole issue of Police and public safety is bigger than him.

He was brought here to be a distractor... Too much focus on him could result in us being hit from behind.

These are mean and dangerous times to be a Chicago Police Officer.

Be vigilant. Be at the next meeting.

If we march for anything worthwhile, we march at City Hall. The country if not the world needs to witness this. Tell your friends, tell your neighbors. The clear eyed, level headed and upright citizen and captive taxpayer is becoming aware. They're alarmed and appalled, as well they should be. We ask them to join us... Our peril is their peril as well.
