More March Support plus Info
Be honest. Did you even bat an eye when you read this weekend's headlines? Cubs lose to the Brewers by thirteen runs. Bears eke out an ugly win against the lowly Lions. And another uniformed Chicago cop gets shot in broad daylight.
If these stories didn't faze you, it's probably because you've read too many similar tales over the years. It's also likely that you don't think there's a damn thing you can do to change any of these situations. As for the Cubs and the Bears, I'd have to agree with you -- unless, of course, your name is McCaskey or Ricketts. But make no mistake -- you can help to make life less dangerous for our Chicago cops (and, in turn, for each of us) simply by heading over to City Hall this Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m.
I wrote recently for the Huffington Post about Lieutenant John R. Andrews, a 25-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department. Andrews had the courage to post on his personal blog a thoughtful essay about the problems he and his fellow officers confront on a daily basis. CPD brass honored Andrews' courage by making him the subject of an internal affairs investigation -- even though his long career has been unblemished by disciplinary problems. At the end of my piece, I wrote: "I'll do my best to have [Andrews'] back on this one, and I hope you will, too. He's probably going to need our help." I meant what I said.
We've also received (along with some 1,500 others) the letter from Mike Shields regarding the march (see this link at Shaved's site.) Shields expresses many of the same concerns we initially had over the process and the lack of communication from the FOP, but he will be in attendance also.
The Lodge has buses leaving from the following locations: 006, 008, near 016, 019 and 022. See this linked flyer for specifics.

Be at City Hall and don't waste your time.
great so now we are sending people to city hall and then police and other civilians to headquarters. instead of looking like a strong large support\protest group we wil now look like gaggle-f*ck. awesome. maybe ill chose the spot with the smaller amount of people to help.
as a civilian i was looking forward to marching where the police will march. having police in one location and civilians in another is ridculous. im assuming when i show to the march at headquarters no officer there will send me home or to city hall. the big question is...is this the right assumption
As much as it sucks and pisses all of us off, we have no choice but to show up and march, march, march.
Do not let up on these pricks now. Stand tall and be unified. Perhaps we will march all the way to city hall on her own accordance. We can FK over FOP next week at the meeting.
If you see Tom Dart at the protest in support of hiring more police with a lot of news cameras, then it will all start to make sense,
we would have been Had.

Dear Neighbors and Friends,
I want to share a creepy incident that happened at our home this afternoon. Jim and I were home, busy with various chores, we also had plumbers here (with 2 big vans). The front door was wide open. A man appeared at our door, he acted very friendly - said he was from the area and that he wanted to buy our Honda van. Another man stayed in the running car parked in front of our house.
My van was parked in the back driveway near the garage, Jim's car was behind it and the plumber's van behind that. Someone would have had to drive very slowly, scoping out our driveway in order to even see my van.
Jim was pretty assertive with the man that we weren't selling the van & the guy left. The whole thing really began to creep me out so we called the Western Springs police. An officer came over and told us this is a scam that's been going on in our areas, Western Springs, LaGrange, Countryside, etc.
One man will approach a house, typically with an open front door. He will act very friendly, saying he's a new neighbor or something similar. He will use a number of friendly reasons to try to get the unsuspecting person into their back yard. Then, the second guy waiting in the car will go into the house - thru the open front door, stealing whatever he can, but especially money and jewelry.
The officer told us someone was robbed in Western Springs last week by this scam, and that our description of the men and their car were exactly the same the victims gave last week.
The officer also said sometimes these men make a first friendly contact and then come back a couple weeks later - being friendly, etc and that's when they will actually rob the home. He told us not to be surprised if these guys come back to our house again.
The men have dark complexions and black hair - the office said they're Gypsies. The man who came to the door was well groomed with a straight mustache. He was nicely causally dressed - dockers and a nice shirt. The man waiting in the car had longer straight hair - Beatles type style.
They drove a white sedan - possibly a Toyota?
If this happens to you or you think you see these guys in your neighborhood please call 911! Unfortunately, it is usually the elderly who are targeted and taken in by these kinds of scams.
I'm glad we were so creeped out, followed our instincts and called the police. Please pass this info along to everyone you know.

OT: Where was I when this was an option?
CHICAGO, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Chicago's new police superintendent may follow the lead of Los Angeles and allow beat officers to work 12-hour shifts three days a week.
The change being explored by newly appointed Supt. Jody Weis is designed to bolster morale among the rank-and-file as well as shorten medical leaves, The Chicago Sun-Times reported Wednesday.
Since taking the helm at the Chicago Police Department, Weis has been appearing at roll calls in an effort to find out what beat officers want.
The Fraternal Order of Police has been pushing for a fixed schedule of six days on and three days off in contract talks with the city.
"Twelve hours in a beat car in Chicago -- in most areas of the city -- is a very long work day," said union President Mark Donahue. "It has worked in other areas of the country. But it's something that has to be analyzed."
This is just the problem......... We are already divided! Just because there was a pole on where the march should be held, people are not sure where they are supposed to go! There are reasons to hold it at either place, however we need to pick just one place! I would like to see a big turnout and that won't happen if you have people saying "I'm going to City Hall" and others saying "35th and Michigan"! Why can't we just get it right? The message will get out wherever we hold it! If it is held downtown, I think the public will be upset because we will cause traffic problems, the media will be pushed away and most of the people that work downtown live in the burbs and could give 2 fucks about CPD!!! If it is held at 35th and Mich..... There would be plenty of parking for the media and I think we would get better coverage!
Jody's latest Pax 501 is a mere distraction and trying to separate us from th union. If we get mad enough at the union, we will not participate in the march. Well Mr. Weiss, your attempt to blame the FOP for your poor leadership made me want to attend the march even more. FOP has not been the best, however you are worse..... and I will take the better of the two!
Let's get our heads out of our asses and go to 35th & Mich and show everybody we mean business!
GO TO HQ and then to City Hall !
The important thing is to sink this motherfucker once and for all.
Recently watched a documentary about the New York City public school system. Local politicians were AFRAID to speak out against teacher's rights because their union VICIOUSLY fights for them. What does our union do for us? You never heard shit from the FOP while we were beaten to death in the media and by Daley. I calld the FOP yesterday to voice my concern about the choice of venue and was berated like a child. FUCK THE FOP. VOTE THEM OUT. Thanks again for the awesome contract.
I'll be at city hall, don't waste your time at HQ. 006 grunt
How do you guys feel about us guys waiting for another cpd test attending the march ?
I will not be in attendance because I have to help out with the GEU big round up on that morning.
How fucking lame is that?
Way to plan boys...
Just go to 35th street, don't show J-Fled we are divided. If you want to go to city hall after the march on 35th street do so. Don't let J-Fled have the last word on this, we need to show we are united.
I think it should be at city hall, and it's too late to change. We need everyone there to show the powers that be we are united.
I know many are disappointed with the FOP right now, but now is not the time to show it. Go to a FOP meeting and voice your opinion, Sept 15th is not the time. Shortshanks and J-Fled will have a good laugh, if there are 2 different marches. We have all of America watching us now, and that's because of Shortshanks not running and our lack of confidence in J-Fled. If there is decent crowd at 35th st it will be picked up by the national media and J-Fled will never be hired by another police organization to hurt another copper.
Donahue is screwing this up so badly that we should be demanding HIS resignation, as well. This goof was elected to represent the interests of the membership... and what has HE done, really. I understand that the FOP is in negotiations on our contracts and such behind the scenes, but it seems to me that the President should be out front voicing our concerns, REGULARLY, not just calling for a protest march TWICE during his tenure.
How this guy got voted in for more than one term after excusing the city's loan of MILLION$ of dollars from our pension fund is totally beyond me, anyway!
BTW, I just watched him on WGN, and his main message, as I saw it, was he didn't like J-Fled's criticism of HIM and FOP. A MUCH STRONGER case against melonhead should certainly have been made...
NO MENTION of Cozzi...
NO MENTION of poor equipment/vehicles (Haymaker)...
NO MENTION of merit(less) promotions...
NO MENTION of absolutely NO 1st responder experience by J-Fled...
NO MENTION of political hack promotions...
NO MENTION of exempt cover-ups of of bad behavior...
This whole protest thing has been handled very poorly. I think I agree that Mark is not in touch with the membership... just not in the way that J-Fled claims.
As long as we're having two marches already, why not add a third one? I say we march at City Hall and HQ, and the head to a bar for lunch and cocktails and then go over to FOP and march there, demanding the resignation of Mark Donahue. The only negative to that, is that it will give one of the VP's a foothold to the Presidency prior to the next election that will feature Mike Shields!
Hey, maybe the whole FOP Board should resign???
I think City Hall would be the best location, but the FOP already has advertised the march at 35th st and the media is aware of this location. Lets ALL get on the same page and be at ONE location...35th St.
One large crowd will look better than 2 mediocre crowds.
There's strength in numbers!
See ya there!
CPD HQ and City Hall are 4 miles apart. WHY, FOP?
Please show at the march. We need to make a statement and we need numbers to show the crap conditions of the police dept. The lack of manpower is a real safety issue. The FOP has a meeting next week we all need to show up there as well and be heard.
Daleyis a lame duck and Weis is on the ropes. The march at HQ makes no sense. It's over. We won. Weis lost. Daley controls the hiring, not Weis. A march at City Hall on another date makes more sense. FOP needs to get it's act together on this one.

I am marching at City Hall, Daley is the beast that did all of this.
People, quit whining! A bigger crowd at one place or two lesser crowds at two paces, both effective! Quit the drama!
12 hour shifts work in LA because it's a power watch and the coppers working it live as far away as Nevada and share an apt in LA on their working days. More LA BS from Weis and Brust. Give it up already, this ain't LA. Dumfucks.
Headquarters and then City Hall via the Green Line at the City's expense! We ride for free! Look activity... 2 event numbers and a bus check!
White Shirt... and still Blue!

Maybe, just maybe the FOP has to keep a sense of priorities when asking or demanding things. There are much bigger issues than Cozzi, which is what nmost of you are hung up on. I keep hearing about the FOP excusing loans or contributions by the city to the Pension Fund. I'm pretty sure that the FOP has nothing to do with contributions or distributions to the fund. It wasn't Donahue that screwed up your precious march, it was people on here disagreeing with the location.

It's a two-year-old article but still very relevant.
12 hour daze? The City's dream come true. Shit -- 25 years of 12 hour days in patrol means you're dead two months into retirement.
Marky Mark is in touch with only one person, HIMSELF!!
PEOPLE, ENUFF!!!
This is EXACTLY why we can't get SHIT done! The CONSTANT in-fighting is sickening! We must be the laughing stock of organized labor! WE NEED TO BE UNIFIED ON THIS!!!
If we have two separate marches, it will do nothing but show division amongst the rank and file! While I DON'T agree with the location, it is where it is! The media knows it will be there, NOT CITY HALL! We need to stand together FOR ONCE and quit the fkn bickering! We can plan another march at City Hall another day. We have time!
I honestly think that it's not all that bad of an idea to do it at HQ this time. This way, we can also show all those INCOMPETENT, USELES, MERIT HACKS that we're tired of their piss poor leadership too!
So for once, let's show the public that we're a UNIFIED, PROFESSIONAL police department that truly wants to do the job for them. BE POLITE AND PROFESSIONAL! We really need to sell ourselves to the public on this one. Otherwise, it's just another disgruntled bunch of whining workers! Remember, this isn't a very good time to be bitching about a job!
BE SAFE and see you there.
Anybody who supports the mainstream lib=commie news media in this city is really cutting their own throats.
" It wasn't Donahue that screwed up your precious march, it was people on here disagreeing with the location.

hack.
hack, hack, hack.
maybe you and the lame duck could do a duet.
seems like...if you are the Supt., and some (regardless of how many) officers are marching, asking for your resignation...isn't that enough? I mean...really?...
Shields will be wherever the wind blows harder.

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Hey, if we didn't have attention whores like shields northern and Andrews leading the bickering, we would all just be bored. See you at the march.

YOU'RE PRETTY SURE THEY DIDN'T FORGIVE THE CITY FROM THIER MANDATORY CONTRIBUTION EH? THINK AGAIN. YOU ARE MISINFORMED.

What the media will see if how the men and women of the CPD are leaderless both in the FOP and in the politicians and bosses we have. If the march is divided because of lack of FOP leadership then as usual it is US who try to hold things together and try to make a statement. The policeman is always the one to try to do the right thing, all of these fucks need to resign. If division occurs on wednesday, we won't be the laughing stock of the country. It will only serve to show the country how fucked up ALL the organizations and leadership around us are.
Weiss sure has a way with words. I heard him say on an interview that the CPD under his reign has trained 36,000 officers. Come one! To some civillian, it would make you think we have 36,000 serving and protecting. What a jerk!

Unlike you, Mike Shields, John Northen and John Andrews actually identify themselves which gives them instant credibility. People listen.
