New Scandal

Rumors of a new scandal emerging. It seems a number of rather large wagers were placed in Vegas Friday before the close of business. These wagers were placed on the Bears/Lions game and took the Lions along with the 6.5 points.

They also took the under.

Thanks to a questionable TD reversal, the bettors cleaned up.

Is this really an effective use of the Predictive Analysis Unit? And if so, can we get in on the action next week?

it would be, if the PaU, (pronounced pew, as in Pepe Le Pew), could predict shit.

this kind of odorous action you want no part of.

Here is how the NFL rule pertaining to the play reads:

"If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact by an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball after he touches the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, the pass is complete."

I thought it was a BS call too. But if this is the rule, I guess it wasn't a BS call.

The call wouldn't effect the line. W/out the call the Lions would win (Lions +6.5 would be paid). With the call the Bears won by 5 (Lions +6.5 would still be paid).

Whatever happened to "the ground can't cause a fumble?" He had control all the way through the play until the ground contact with the ball.

Strang cal.

Bears won by 5 makes no difference on reversal call, Detroit covered the 6.5

When you see a call like that, it's hard not to smell a rat. In Vegas you can wager what's called a money line. Just pick the winner-no point spread involved. Of course, you need to wager more to get full odds if you are betting the favorite. The Bears were a -280 money line favorite; you needed to bet $280 to win $100.

Wiseguys only play money lines out there. I'm sure somebody put a ton on the Bears. The boys in the desert don't like to lose.

to 12:26am,,,,it was a touchdown, he was in control of the ball as he hit the ground and began to get up to celebrate.......I feel it didn't violate the spirit of the rule and the referrees did too literal of an interpretation,,I didn't see Lovey or the rest of the Bears getting up and protesting. The Lions should have won that game. And I am a die hard Bear fan from the day my mother shot me out of her womb.

I thought my Saturday night Texas Hold 'em "bad beat" of "all in" with the pocket 10's versus 8,9 unsuited were the bad beat of the weekend as my opponent turned and rivered two additional eights to win. BUT, the Lions loss to the Bears is the "bad beat" of the weekeend. Not to mention Buffalo's loss by 5 to the Dolphins by five(from a safety of all things!) when the spread was 3. Next the Panthers kept it close for two quarters; then the rest of the game was played and Phil Schitz took a "royal analing" on Sunday.

Not to fear though as Phil Schitz takes the underdogs Baltimore Ravens and KC Chiefs in Monday Night Football action.

I have seen that play over and over. I can't help wonder why when a guy is running the ball in and crosses the goal line the play is over. He can't drop the ball, have it knocked out of his hand or anything. He broke the plane(?) of the goal and it's a touchdown.

Buy when the player catches the ball he has to maintain control of the ball even after he falls down, turns over and is attempting to get up using the ball for a boast up. I am glad that it happened to the Lions and not the Bears. I'd really be bitchin' if it happened to the Bears.

if the player is running, he already has possession of the ball.

to have possession of the ball after making the catch, the player must retain control of the ball throughout the entire sequence of his movements until the play is officially over.

if dude had just stayed on his back, on the ground, clutching the ball to his chest, until the refs called the play ended, it would have been a td for the Lions.

but noooooooooo, bad boy has gots ta git up and celebrate, using the ball to push off the ground, before the play was ended, and before the entire sequence of his movements were completed.

i'll bet bad boy is gonna remember that play.

Cuz it wasn't a call of a "fumble". Once you break plane of end zone on a carry it is a TD. It was a call of incomplete pass under the new rule posted earlier, or newly enforced rule.
