Officer Shot

  • A Chicago police officer was shot near 75th Street and South Shore Drive about 7 p.m. tonight, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien.

The officer was taken to Northwestern Community Hospital in good condition with a wound to the shoulder, according to Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford.

Police News Affairs said it appeared the officer was wounded in the right shoulder and his wound did not appear to be life-threatening. Details of the shooting were still being collected, but there have been no immediate reports of any other injuries.

And then this detail:
  • The Independent Police Review Authority was notified a few minutes after 7 p.m. of a police officer being shot on the 7400 block of South South Shore Drive, and the agency was sending investigators to the scene, according to IPRA spokesman Curtis Tarver.
Um, why? To see if the cop deserved it? The cop was the victim.

UPDATE: Shooter in custody. Officer released from the hospital. And evidently, the copper's partner got a round off, so we have no doubt IPRA is looking to see if they can hang him out to dry on some procedural charge - failure to yell, "Knock it off!" before firing in defense of his partner's life or something. He'll take 30 days no doubt.

IPRA...another useless redundant entity that does nothing to help police and the measure of their effectiveness is how many cops they can second guess and screw. Their budget should be cut to ribbons as complaints against cops must be down because of de-policing. A waste of tax dollars. If taxpayers were asked what would they rather have , more cops on the street or IPRA, I think everyone would want more police.

Thank God that this Officer is okay!

This is one more reason why we need to March at City Hall when the City Council is in session.

How many PO's have to be maimed or murdered?

What will it take to bring the manpower up to budgeted strength?

All of Chicago should realize that when PO's are getting maimed and murdered like nothing that Chicago is beyond lawless.

I will NOT take this manpower shortage anylonger! Everyone should refuse to work 99!

Well, two reasons for IPRA come to mind, SCC. Maybe (let's hope) it's because the good guys got a shot or two off at the bad guys, or maybe it's because the shooting was an accidental (let's hope not).

Either way, the important thing is that he will be okay.

Initial report of shots fired by the police at the offender. Alot of mixed information on the Zone. Zone 7 had the preliminary event, Zone 8 had possible offender information. 75th St is the border. Also, Deputy Chief Dana Alexandar was involved in a personal injury accident at 83rd South Chicago enroute to the scene. He went to Christ.

I know and supervise both the injured officer and his partner. Very well liked and respected officer. Thank God he will be ok. Partner did get off a couple shots at the shit head. Until this city takes the handcuffs off of the police and let us police these shit head animals the proper way, unfortunately we will go thru this over and over again in the near future. A.D. My prayers are with you for a speedy recovery.

One poster relates that shots were fired by the Police. If in fact bonafide, then a grudging OK go ahead to IPRA. If no shots fired by the Police, then we second SCC's sentiment of an IPRA roll-out to determine if the officer was at fault for getting shot. Had the officer not gotten shot then Dep. Chief Alexander would not have been involved in a crash responding to the scene.

IPRA will justify their existence by putting the officer on the horns for a preventable accident...

SARCASM on/(off)

Glad the Officer and Deputy are OK... God Bless & a full recovery.

No doubt if the Police managed to k/b the offender, we would be experiencing what L.A. went through because the Police didn't fuck around with a mutt playing with a knife and promptly kaboomed his ass...

Why waste time kissing his ass with verbal direction when you should be killing the dogshit out of him?

This milqtoast 21st Century Policing as demanded/dictated by the yellow pinkies and their lawyer friends who reap millions suing police departments is out of fucking hand.

We're living the "Demolition Man" film. Simon Phoenix is fucking legion and John Spartan is still frozen just because he might hurt somebody's feelings with his painful and politically incorrect methods of policing monsters like Simon Phoenix who are running amok.

What are the investigative credentials IPRA members have to be able to "investigate" anything?

Media? You out there? Here's the answer. They have NO background in investigations or law enforcement. They are hacks appointed by the Machine.

To any potential Mayoral candidates who are reading this....

I dont want to hear about your phony concern about the officers involved or wax-poetic about how dangerous the streets are and blah, blah, blah

Its easy to say that and back up the CPD during times like this

What are you going to say as Mayor when the CPD are in the news about a news worth event where we are accused of wrongdoing by the phony revrends, media and anti-police crowd etc.???

Such as beating a bartender, killing a bobcat, pulling over a racist congressman, or being accused of planting a gun during a police shooting???? Are you prepared to defend us then?? If not, then fuck you and your phony concern. I cant speak for these officers, but I can tell you, I dont want to hear it.

Get well officer, fuck this piece of shit l.k.

You've got it all wrong about IPRA. As an agency they have totally sucked the political outcry out of all our "incidents." It used to be there'd be community outrage at a police shooting, let's say, and they'd demand the DOJ investigation. Now the 'investigation' goes to IPRA, a big black hole of an investigation that then never resurfaces as a political/media issue again. Rosenzweig is never out front on anything. Right, not interviewed, not associated with an actual investigation in the public eye, nothing. This is the perfect hustle for the mayor's police problem; face it we are a problem.I say this suits our purposes too, for the most part. So I wouldn't be too quick to poo-poo IPRA, they're just part of the mix in this political drama of a job we do.

it never fails to amaze me

the best dicks and usually the ones with the most experience, intelligence, and peer respect, have always been the ones to investigate a police shooting.

why is ipra think it's qualified or up to the task in this regard?

this is a serious question and not a slam.

currently, good dicks are worth their weight in gold.

ooops, jfled gave them away already

LAST STRAW !!!!!

Where's the ASA ?????

When a police officer is put before a judge or public view for ANY crime or deemed social infraction the first statement we hear is...

"A peace officer should be held to a higher standard"

This is uaually followed by the harshest penalty allowed.

I agree to a point, that is to say ,the officers themselves should hold himself or herself to that higher standard as a position of personal ethic.

but

Here's the last straw.

When an officer is shot, or shot at, the offender/s MUST BE Penalized to the maximum extent of the law allowable with no exceptions. ZERO, NONE!

The states attorney needs to be held accountable is this matter.
The states attorney needs to speak to the public, to clarify their position verbally and in public. The media needs to give the states attorney air time.

Something like:
We shall impose maximum sentences,
there shall be no reductions of sentence,
"Death penalty" (fat chance)...etc

The public shall be held to the highest accountability of law with the greatest penalty assigned if guilty.

This is the minimum the asa should propose.

Officers are being shot, killed and shot at at an alarmingly increasing rate.

People are taking it as a natural every day event.

NOT A PEEP from the ASA.
This is where a march should be held.
Anita Alvarez's house!

What kind of a city lets this continue without legal repercussions?

Zero tolerance.

Oh, but rest assured IPRA victim I'll make sure to smile and politely talk to your offender over pizza and coke. That is, if the criminal doesn't mind being cuffed or if we even bother to put our asses on the line catching the bad guy for your sorry asses.
