Conflict of Interest Maybe?

  • State Sen. James T. Meeks said Thursday that he has no intention of leaving the pulpit of his South Side megachurch if he is elected mayor.

"That's non-negotiable," Meeks said after a groundbreaking ceremony for a Salvation Army community center in the West Pullman neighborhood. "I feel that I can run my church and run the city of Chicago."

Ald. Carrie Austin, 34th, said voters may have difficulty voting for Meeks if he tries to keep both positions.

"This is a seven-day-a-week job, this is not a part-timer for us," she said. "There are always concerns and problems that you need to address yourself as mayor."

Is Meeks still getting that free police service for traffic control? Or did that fade away after he expressed interest in the mayoral position? Just curious.

Meeks is like JJ. He wants to be bought off. By announcing this there is no way he can win. He wants a spot or some dough.

Some of these canidates (Meeks, Mosley Braun) are running just to be bought off by the real canidates(Rambo and Dart). They build pockets of support to be turned over for clout.

Oh please let them elect a revrund like meeks.

I'll be first in line with a Lawsuit on "Seperation of Church and State" grounds, and will even go for damages with it as a class action suit.

Meeks cannot tell his congregation what they want to hear AND be a representative for all of our communities in Chicago.

Simply put, he is a divisive, racist asshole pandering to his flock of folks (and peoples!). After all, aren't they the ones who keep the money flowing into his coffers?

He may be a popular figure among the black community, but he is UN-electable as a leader for ALL Chicagoans.

Two things come to mind.

1. Separation of Church and State.

2. You can't serve two masters.

You "i'm gonna sue" people crack me up. You sound like Joe in a court room who just spouts off legal terms. Walking into a lawyers office after election:

You: hello sir, I'd like to sue the mayor.
Lawyer: excellent, on what grounds?
You: habeus corpus! Oh wait, I mean separation of church and state.
Lawyer: um, that's not really a law.
You: ok then....um...this one time at work, people were praying outdoors and my commander told me to watch them in my squad car. Will that make me a millionaire?
Lawyer: sir, please leave.
You: can I sue you now for denying me due process or something like that?

Conflict of interest? What about the seperation of church and state? Who'll come first? His church and flock? Or the city? I wouldn't vote for this anti-police rev for all the money in Daley's pockets and shoe-boxes.

I fully support Meeks remaining a pastor of his church. And his stand on gays etc. That will guarantee he remains a fringe candidate not to be taken seriously and we won't have to worry about him.

Go Meeks!

Meeks can't take the pay cut if he got elected mayor.

His 20,000 person Church takes up a 2nd collection every week for him and his wife.

They call it "the love collection".

Only him and wifey count the money. Where do you think he got the money for the two big houses he bought in South Holland for his parents and son?

Wait till the media starts running with that tidbit more often.

Add in his church Halloween haunted houses where they portray homosexuality as leading to hell and this guy has about as much chance of being Mayor as Blago.

Right now it's likely going to be Mayor Dart with an outside chance of the nine fingered asshole getting elected.

To answer the traffic question, I work in 005 and, no, the po-po do not run traffic control for his circus Sundays. I'd like to also point out that the House of Dope parking lot (all 100 acres of it) was locked tight during the FEMA hand-out-money-o-thon that was a mere block away from his "pulpit" a few weeks ago. People were parking everywhere, blocking the streets and trying to gain access to the police lot. What a service it would have been to the community he claims to support if he had allowed them to park at such a convenient location. He could have even charged a percentage off those Link cards.

22,000 parishoners X $10 = $220,000.00. PER WEEK!

I doubt if many can away with the sawbuck, or spare change in the basket?

What do the Mayor make? (before tips?)

That colosal piece of crap, Little Dick Turban said tonight on the radio that Meeks should have no problem being mayor and ministering to his flock...no problem at all.

Conflict of interest? No, no problem at all.

Vote conservative/Republican or you will be destroyed by these socialists/marxists/communists/ who do not acknowledge the Constitution, make their own rules and laws, and take away our freedoms one by one.

Crazy as it sounds Meeks views vs the other Democrats. Meeks = Pro school vouchers - Dems against. Meeks Anti gay marriage-Dems For, Meeks for Restriction of Immigrants - Dems Sanctuary City. If he was a White Minister he would be called a Republican. The "Moral Majority".Meeks views are more white Catholic Northwest, southwest side than anyone else. Of course you have to look at the issues and not judge a book by its cover.

Hey. Way to keep up the perception that Area 2 Police Officers are the Department's biggest idiots.

My biggest fear is Meeks vs Rahmbo in a runoff. Meeks won't win, but he could come in second in Feb giving Rahmbo an easy victory in April

If Rhambo can run for mayor without OCCUPYING a residence in Chicago a year prior to election, we have a legitimate chance of changing the residency requirement for city employees. Right?

And for those who think there is no legal recourse on the issue of separation of church and state, guess why public schools no longer recite the pledge of allegiance?

Meeks is just a part of the big plan...DIVERSION, take votes away from a legitimate candidate in order to elect the DESIRED candidate. Politics 101 here in Chicago.

If elected, Meeks would have to surrender his "Love Collection" it would violate ethics rules. Do you think this "PIMP" would give up a minimum of $22K a week to become Mayor? DIVERSION!!!!!

Remember,
Unarmed man = Subject
Armed Man = Citizen

WHy should Meeks give up preaching? DId Vrdolyak give up suing the city when he was an Alderman?
And yes, Meeks does live in the City. Personally, I wouldn't vote for the guy, but fair is fair.

We've seen a flurry of Aldermen over a span of many years who, in their 'side' businesses, rape the city on a regular basis.
