Busy Sunday Already?

Word of a police shooting in 006. We can't confirm anything yet, but a comment said offender dead, cops OK.

Another story of an early morning HBT incident in the Fernwood neighborhood.

We will update if possible.

UPDATE: HBT resolved peaceably. Read the later post for the shooting update.

Police shoot, kill man on South Side
December 5, 2010 6:10 AM UPDATED STORY
A police officer shot and killed a man believed to be dealing drugs in the South Side Gresham neighborhood Saturday night, officials said.

About 8:30 p.m., Gresham District police were on patrol in the 8100 block of South Ashland Avenue when they saw a vehicle in an area known for drug deals and gang activity, according to a release from police news affairs.

A man in the vehicle appeared to be selling drugs when officers arrived, the release said. Officers identified themselves, but the man in the vehicle stuck his hands in his pockets and refused to cooperate.

The man then got out of the vehicle and made an "aggressive movement" toward the officers, the news release said, and an officer shot him several times.

Ontario Billups, 30, of the 6600 block of South Seeley Avenue, was shot dead and pronounced on the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

No one else was injured.

The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating the incident

So staying in your car and not making unwanted movements and keeping your hands where they can be seen is safe huh? Then why didnt this guy do just that. He tried to jesture ideas and thoughts all in trying to make good his escape and that got himself kilt. Im sure he was an up and coming brain surgeon, lawyer, community activist, store front reverend, and aspiring rap artist. I am so glad the Officers are OK! Textbook!

Women from burbs on Michigan Ave. last night asked where they could purchase "Rape-axe" hooked female condoms for trips to Chicago.

Apparently, this is an anti-rape device that is very popular in South Africa and holiday shoppers in Chicago want them.

Heh, We see the top cop is out there with his press conference touting the drop in crime rates again. This time for November.

http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/2010/12/cops-chicago-crime-drops-again-auto-thefts-climb.html

Yeah. We have 12 less murders this year and it's all because of his leadership and the police force. How does that compare with NYC and LA?

Oh-No we couldn't possible have 12 less murders because our hospital ER's have become so much better at saving people from gun shot wounds with all the practice that they're getting right?

Property crimes and agg bats are down.

Might just as well and try to grab credit for that too. Hey, maybe the code of silence is working better than you think and the residence have given up hope.

Or maybe after waiting hours for a backlog to dissipate people just go home as we run officers from one end of the district to the other because a Spanish speaker is needed here, a Polish speaker there and Chinese speaker over here.

Why bother? You're going to risk yourself for fear of retaliation?

Look in the news the police can not protect themselves regardless of the number of guns taken off the street and they are not here to protect you. Only to take a report after the fact.

Oh auto thefts are up? Now there's a surprise eh?

You have Untied Road Towing over at the city pound pulling gang bangers cars and the bangers are going out to get new ones. In fact wasn't it not too long ago that the Fed was investigating these people running the pound as part of an interstate auto theft ring..

http://www.pubsub.com/Controversy-Raised-Over-Citys-Towing-Contract_Chicago-IL-Chicago-News-jSumCf0UQc,54uDtSHwCZNE

Who you kidding J-fled. The people of this city can adapt your phrases too and say that there's "no indication" that your actions or that of the police are attributed to the drop.

On the contrary. Show us the numbers on second time offenders and arrests/convictions. What the success rates on that?

Check out what Superintendent Softball is saying on Tribune Breaking News:
---

"Overall crime in Chicago dropped by nearly 4 percent in November with overall violent crimes dropping by nearly 10 percent, according to Chicago police officials."

"Supt. Jody Weis discussed the figures today at a press conference at Chicago police headquarters to announce November's crime statistics, saying that the decrease amounted to the 23rd consecutive month of lower overall crime in the city."
---

Except for all those murders of police officers it sounds like Chicago is a very safe city.

I know this is not a usual blog comment, and that is precisely why I felt a need to write it. Today, while off duty I saw two suspicious men working construction on the street in the 016th district. What peeked my suspicions was the fact it was Sunday, there was only two of them, they were dressed unusually for construction workers and one was using a Kmart stop sign to direct traffic in a personal vehicle with Wisconsin plates. I began to ask questions and decided to call 911 for back-up. Although, nothing came of it--I very much wanted to blog a thank you to those officers who arrived. They were a great help and in an atmosphere where police officers are being killed at an unheard rate and a management solely bent on creating a perception of a lost brother and sisterhood--I wanted to say thank you for arriving and assisting a fellow officer without judgment; without question and with the utmost professionalism. Thank you.....

Comment on the officer who is very experienced and precise on the job I can say that the officer did what was required involving the job requirements and I personally applaud the reactions of what occured. May God Bless the Officer and Thank God for the ending results to many of our Officers are ending up as casulties and not as the guardians that we are suppose to be. Our citizens want so much however they don't realize that at a second of guessing can cost ur our lives. If our citizens do not support us just turn over the city to the criminal element and turn out the lights. Officer May God Bless You and Thank You For Your Support and Protection of Our Community. Just wondering does CPD only shot recovering drug addicts who are "getting it together"? I know it’s Chicago so you can pretty much pull a trigger in any direction and hit an addict! But show some initiative dammit shot a doctor or shit how about anybody who makes over 50K legally! Oh yeah that’s right people like that aren’t going out giving cops shit and pointing guns at them!

At least have some comfort in knowing you’re not alone. Every time one of my guys drops a tango it seems he’s always the best sheep herder in the village who’s turning his life around!

There seems to be a strange attraction to police bullets for budding rap stars who are on the cusp of getting their lives together around 17-21 years of age.

Good boys, with mommas who love them and fathers who they've never seen and real nice 8th grade graduation photos.
