For the second time in three games, the Chicago Bears appear to be catching a big break.
Coming off a victory that appeared to confirm them as top NFC contenders, the first-place Bears look to win their fifth straight when they visit a Detroit Lions team that will start third-string quarterback Drew Stanton on Sunday.
After climbing to the top of the NFC North by beating teams such as Carolina, Buffalo, Minnesota and a banged-up Miami club, many wondered if Chicago could be taken seriously as one of the best teams in the conference. The Bears (8-3) seemed to answer the doubters Sunday by beating red-hot Philadelphia 31-26, moving them one game ahead of Green Bay into sole possession of first.

The Bears are right in feeling disrespected by all the pre-game analysts and "experts". It pisses me off that the East coast sports media still refuses to give the Bears any respect.
Last game against the Eagles, EVERY ONE of the the Fox guys, Curt Menefee, and analysts Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, Michael Strahan and Jimmy Johnson picked the Eagles to win. After some ribbing about their seasons' records, Bradshaw changed his pick to the Bears, more as a joke than anything else. His pick on the screen, though, was the Eagles.
Even AFTER the Bears beat Philly and the Packers lost to Atlanta, the media acted like it was a fluke and not to be acknowledged. Mark Schlereth on ESPN's Mike and Mike in the Morning said he picked the Packers to win the NFC North and wasn't changing his pick. Truth be told, I think the Bears feed off it and it helps them.
Peppers was a BIG addition since it takes 2 or 3 defense men to neutralize him on every play, allowing other defensive players to make plays. Chester Taylor has been a bust so far. The O-line is starting to settle in and hopefully their rookie, Webb, who is average at best, will turn into a decent journeyman lineman.
From game 1, when the Lions almost pulled off a win, I wondered what this Bears team was made of. I've been uneasy about them until recently, particularly after the Eagles game. Now I believe what the players have been saying, that they've been getting used to new teammates and a new offensive system. Hell, even Martz is adjusting accordingly!
I read an in-depth analysis this week comparing this Bears team to the 2005 Super Bowl team and they said this team is better, all around, than that team was. We can only hope. How cool would it be to have a Hawks Stanley Cup, AND a Super Bowl win? All we'd need then, would be a Northside World Series... Well two out of three wouldn't be bad!
You know that if too many jump on the bandwagon, the wheels will come flying off!
Please just lose, the Bears are really not that good. Its just the rest of the NFL must really suck...
National Championsip: AUBURN vs. OREGON
Rose Bowl: WISCONSIN vs. TCU
Sugar Bowl: OHIO STATE vs. ARKANSAS
Heisman Trophy Winner: Cam NEWT0N, Auburn QB
Peppers is a freak of nature. How he maneuvers around the way he does at his size is crazy. I'm glad we have him. Go Bears!! And snowballs in the face to all the haters.
We predict - Bears 24 Lions 20.

Great job PAU!
Now gimme next weeks score... I'll even give you 72 hours to come up with it!
I'm not prepared to drink the Kool Aid just yet.
A little more sugar in the form of a Bears victory over the Patriots would go a long way toward convincing me that this team is for real.
