Funeral for Stephen Peters
In his last Facebook profile, Stephen P."Drew" Peters described himself as someone who would have no regrets if his life came to a sudden end.
"I can honestly say that I have been able to do everything I have wanted to do before it was too late," he wrote. The words provided haunting comfort when read to the more than 100 family and friends who filled the aisles at St. Philip Neri Church for Peters' funeral today.
Through tears, mourners listened to Peters' proud summary of graduating from college, serving in the U.S. Army and working as a police officer for the Chicago Housing Authority.
They nodded at a list of mottos that Peters tried to live by: exhibit strength, but never hit a woman; no child is bad from the beginning; and people may forget what you do, but they will never forget the way you made them feel.

Thanks for that SCC. May he rest in peace...
I deeply regret leaving the city as a medic for a private ambulance, but I make sure my coworkers and brethren in public safety know that others are making the ultimate sacrifice all too frequently even when we're not immediately aware.
God Bless the CPD and all Chicago area police agencies. All of you deal with the same level of violence and shitbaggery.
From the rest of us in public safety throuhoug the country, we will forever be indebted for your sacrifices and pray they have come to an end.
Its said to see another good person murdered. RIP. S.P.
Obviously we are not dealing effectively with the forces of evil. Nothing would make me happier, nor I dare say comfort this brave man's family more than to see that deficiency rectified. It is far past time to do a "cull" of the criminal underclass in this country; a thousand of their lives are not worth the life of the man we lost here.
RIP.
Rest in Peace Officer Smith, and may Our Lords Peace be upon your family.
Rest easy my brother.....

By the words he left us with, I truly believe he realized how short life can be, and how unexpected the end may come...let that be a lesson to us all. Live life like today is your last, and tell those you around you how you feel. Then there shall be no regrets...
Once again, I'm 'proud' of our department.
The outpouring of our members in attendance to honor Stephen Peters at his wake and the decision to use our Honor Guard to honor him at his funeral was certainly a class act.
A former member of our military and CHA police officer, he deserved nothing less.
Thank You one and all that likewise showed dignity, honor and respect toward the loss of another of our brothers.
Sounds Like This Man Really Knew What Life Was All About.
Sorry For His Tragic Passing.
Sorry For His Families Grief.
Thank You SCC For Sharing These Memories Of Him.
I am a member of the CFD and went to the service of both men this week. My heart & prayers go out to ALL of you.
Whoever made the decision or got the Honor Guard to be the Pallbearers gets a huge Thank You from me. It was nice to see this former officer get the respect that I feel he deserved.
rip
God bless you, Officer Peters.
