Fireworks Canceled Due to Heat
Chicago is getting out of the Independence Day fireworks business.
There will be no city-run July 3rd or July 4th fireworks show this year — not even a scaled-down version — thanks to former Mayor Richard M. Daley’s decision to hand off the Taste of Chicago to the Park District to reverse $7 million in festival losses over the last three years.
That means Chicago’s only official fireworks will be the previously scheduled show at 9 p.m. July 4 at Navy Pier. That 15-minute show is paid for by the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority.

Oh, and Sneed has broken the embargo on the beach closing story. We figure she's setting the stage for another Daley family member to take over the mayor's spot once Rahm runs for the Senate or the presidency.

I was watching the news yesterday and the interviewed the alderwoman in the ward the beach is in ( sorry don't remember her name). She said that there was more than enough police in the are because of the recent redeployment. That's very interesting since NOT ONE OFFICER went to the 018th District.. So she is either very misinformed, or lying.. I go with the latter.
During the last three months I have traveled to Las Vegas, Southern CA, Georgia and just returned from Alaska. Met many people from many countries. Told EVERY ONE OF THEM to stay away from Chicago and told them why.
They were really floored. We then got into many policital discussions as to the cause of Chicago's demise and agreed it was Demo-crats and no one else. Except the two "teachers" from New Jersey who thought Chris Christy was the devil. Be I reamed them new excretion holes in the minimum amount of time. It was such fun.

This is so incredibly disappointing. I saw the article on the Sun Times website before I saw it here. I sent it to my mom telling here it was no coincidence. After coming here, I realized that I am not the only person who feels this way. Can't the little fucking thugs go to their own beaches and act like this? I really respect the work you men and women do. I cannot imagine it's easy to deal with this trash day after day after day, especially when the media completely ignores what is really happening.
Question for the leaders of our FOP. What's this rumor going around about how the money being made from the future casino in Chicago and how not one penny of that is going towards our pension? In 20 yrs on the job, I have observed stupidity on a massive scale. The groundwork for the present mayhem can be layed at the feet of our current President Obama and those who have insisted on racial profiling legislation. There is a girl in rehab back in Ireland learning to use a spoon again after receiving a good beating in our downtown. Why are people from somewhere else more important than those who live here? An "activist" lady who spent her time helping the homeless was murdered for her trouble at the Fullerton "L" stop by a phone-snatcher who threw her down a flight of stairs for a piece of plastic.

Willis Tower owners reportedly seeking new investor
The owners of North America's tallest building, formerly known as the Sears Tower, are looking for a buyer or an investor to help recapitalize the building that is a staple in the Chicago skyline, two sources familiar with the situation said Wednesday.
The building, now called the Willis Tower, is a 110-story, 4 million square-foot building on Chicago's South Wacker Drive. It carries $780 million of debt on it, said two sources, who asked not to be identified because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the matter.

New Top Cop Names Top Aide

A Chicago police official who was once among the leading candidates to become the city's top cop has been tapped to become the second in command under acting Superintendent Garry McCarthy.
Al Wysinger, 48, was named first deputy superintendent, Mayor Rahm Emanuel said today at a news conference at police headquarters.
The post had been eliminated under former Superintendent Jody Weis, who stepped down after Emanuel’s election. McCarthy, the former police chief of Newark, was recently appointed Chicago’s police superintendent by Emanuel. His appointment still needs City Council approval.
Wysinger, a native of the West Side, was promoted from deputy chief of detectives. He also once commanded the Austin police district.

There are no plans for hiring. Instead they will relocate current officers. If anything city might hire 50 a month. That means new officers newxt April. I have not had any problems doing that walk ( I actually go to Olgivie ot whatever the Northwestern station is now called)
At that time of night less panhandlers, so a more relaxing walk. The thugs are a bit more up north since that is where the people are.

I was stuck in traffic on the southbound drive when everything was going on at North Avenue Beach.
- It was wildly overcrowded. Every offramp that led to the beach (Montrose, Wilson, Belmont, North) had a line of cars that stretched forever.
- There were at least seven ambulances coming north on the drive and stopping at the North Avenue Beach
- Right at the S curve (by the Drake), there were lowlifes jumping the fences and crossing the Drive on foot. Thing was, it was so congested that they could do it with no danger to them at all.
- I left my house just before the Cubs game let out. I can't even imagine how congested the Drive got about a half hour later.
Out once great city has been reduced to this. It's truly a shame to see what Daley did to us and what Rahm will finish doing to us.
A major American city that doesn't have a fireworks display on the Fourth of July. Well, this is a communist city and state, so it just fits to be completely un-American about it.
I can't wait to move.
If these "flash mobs" nationwide are in fact being co-ordinated by person(s) unknown shouldn't this be considered domestic terrorism? Shouldn't Homeland Security play a part in finding these person(s) and bringing them to justice? I think they are more interested in putting on the show at the airports and screw the safety of the public. One would think with all the resources at their disposal the government should be able to resolve the issues of these gang banging thugs and put them in prison forthwith. We needed a plan? For what? It gets warm almost every summer. We reinvent the wheel here every year, as if nothing had ever been done before.
All the problems (except terminal stupidity of all our leaders) have been successfully dealt with in years past. Then the guy who knew that shit got dumped or retired and the next guy had to figure it out all over again.
And the people in the districts who knew about how the guy downtown used to do things all got dumped or retired.
So now you have a bunch of people who are all very good at getting their face on TV with the mayor or scrounging free tickets to events but don't know how to actually get shit done.
And with all this talk about a "meritocracy" (read: CLOUT) you will never again have knowledgeable people running anything here.
