Florida Leads the Way

  • Saying it is "unfair for Florida taxpayers to subsidize drug addiction," Gov. Rick Scott on Tuesday signed legislation requiring adults applying for welfare assistance to undergo drug screening.

"It's the right thing for taxpayers," Scott said after signing the measure. "It's the right thing for citizens of this state that need public assistance. We don't want to waste tax dollars. And also, we want to give people an incentive to not use drugs."

And this is just priceless:
  • Shortly after the bill was signed, five Democrats from the state's congressional delegation issued a joint statement attacking the legislation, one calling it "downright unconstitutional."
We were reading the Constitution the other day and for the life of us, we can't find a single thing that mandates giving money to people who don't work, won't work or use drugs. It's almost like the Founding Fathers didn't want to reward misbehavior and kind of believed in the responsibility of the individual to better their lives rather than the state being "responsible" for everything.

May it become a fast growing trend nationwide...the masses shouldn't be responsible for paying for addicts and their continued decline into the bottle, syringe, or crack pipe. Can't believe it has taken this long for legislation like this to get on the books anywhere!!!

Yeah except passing a law and enforcing a law are two different things.

I mean take the cell phone use while driving laws, the seat belt laws, the illegal immigration laws..to name a few..

Halle-fucking-lujah! I knew it was just a matter of time before someone with half a brain started looking at welfare recipients and their bullshit. Let's hope this sweeps the country.

The party's over...it's time to call it a night....YES!

Unconstitutional is not reforming welfare.

The ghetto culture is continuing to grow and grow without and restrictions.

Add several generations of welfare recipients having 5-10 kids each, the resulting demand for more welfare and the resulting new generations 15 yrs later... ...unreal!!

What happens when there are more people on welfare than workers paying taxes?

50-75 yrs of welfare got us here, what about another 50 years of breading?

Read this story on CNN, the best part of all is that the welfare applicant must pay for the drug test themselves. If they pass it they are reimbursed the cost of the test. If they don't then to bad.

Then you didn't read the revised Ghetto version. It's directly after the right to "get your party on".

The way this Country treats it's wounded Veterans is reprehensible! Every single wounded Vet should be living in a mansion before ONE entitled, never-done-anything-for-society ASSHOLE gets any more handouts paid for by ME!

Amen! And well said. I would rather see our Veterans getting the benefits and all the help they need before a single parasite gets a single penny.

Saw a similar story on the local news a couple of days ago. Something about adult public housing or maybe Section 8 residents to be required to take and pass a drug test or risk losing their "affordable housing". The story focused on a busload of protestors downtown marching around saying that the requirement was unconstitutional and a violation of their rights against search and seizure, blah, blah, blah. All I could think of was, it's about time.

Let me see now, drug testing unconstitutional for those taking public money, yet constitutional for the working public who's taxes support, from birth to death the sub-culture of the " entitled ".

It will be very interesting to see if the number of welfare recipients drops or if new application numbers drop.

Speaking of drops-DROP SOME PEE YOU FREELOADING SOB'S

Better yet, check the hair samples like they do for new coppers.

Great News!

Think a minute. How much is this going to cost the taxpayers?

I can see the politically connected bottom-feeders rushing to set up drug testing companies, with the same sort of credibility and goals as the Daley/Vanecko No-Bid Sewer Cleaning Corporation -- to rake in as much money as possible.

The scandals, "allegations of massive billing fraud," "investigations," TV "expose" stories, "outraged" congressmen calling for "greater oversight," etc. will follow. "Committees" will be set up to issue great thick "reports."

One despairs...

Learn to recognize patterns that are repeated over and over again.

There is an elephant in the living room. These people don't want to get rid of it -- they just want to make it jump through hoops while they sell tickets and pocket the proceeds.

Poverty is immensely profitable to the Inner Circle.

Great Idea for a start, and a long time coming. It won't happen here in Illinois, because the do-nothing-but-collect-benefits-for-drugs lobby (Democrat voters) is too strong, but... good start.

Our Founding Fathers said, "No work, no eat".

Or does anyone here remember the five grains of corn at the tables used by the Pilgrims to remind the others of the starvation they had.

WE CANNOT SUBSIDIZE FREELOADERS!

NO WORK... NO EAT!

The ACLU will rear its ugly fucking head here. Keep the black man down by continuing to "fight for justice." ACLU..how about fighting for the rights of the rest of us..law abiding tax payers? Even in the hood...how about fighting for the rights of black citizens who do NOT commit crimes. Black citizens who cannot walk outside of their homes without the fear of being robbed, intimidated, shot, or killed by gangsters...should be your first priority...instead you liberal do gooders protect the criminals over the honest citizens. When it comes down to it...the lawyers at the ACLU are all about the green. Even if they take pro bono cases...they will get their own private law firm at some point and make large green.

You mean, put THEIR hand in their OWN pocket for money? I'D pay to see that happen. Ever see those motherfuckers go into their act to squirm out of paying for anything? They will pitch a fit, and only when they realize they ain't getting what they came for without paying will they then pull out a wad of cash that would choke a horse and peel them bills off. It's aggravating and amusing all at the same time.

They'd probably kill themselves if they had a mortgage, car notes, tuition payments, health insurance premiums, union dues, grocery bills....sheeeeeeeeeeet.

This is the best proactive idea I have heard of, maybe ever! At least since the '60's when all this entitlement shit came into being.

Immigrants in the early 1900's would have rather gone shoeless than take a handout. They wanted to make it on their own in the land of opportunity. Contrast that with today's 'gimme this and gimme that.'

Have 'em pee when they pick up their check. This country would save BILLIONS by eliminating the undeserving handouts and eliminating fraud. For the life of me, with all the fraud going on I don't understand why we aren't required to give (and have scanned) thumbprints for everything.

No they won't kill themselves. They already have everything, house, car, $2,000.00 rims on the 'ghetto fabulous' ride, free medical, and just call the ambulance for that free ride to the hospital. (make sure you use the free government cell phone)

You just don't know what "program or service" to apply for to get it.
