- Four people are dead and at least 12 others were wounded in overnight shooting incidents in Chicago, police said.
- No one was in custody for any incident and area detectives were investigating.
Reports of another homicide at the 43rd Street beach are in our comment section, but only appears as a "critical condition" in the BreakingNews.com story. Expect that one to be corrected in a bit. That means we've had about three homicides on the beaches already, all due to "heat."

Four murders last night alone!
That's about the 39th murder since "McCarthy
the Great" took office on the 16th of May 2011.
That's about 2 murders a days so far.
We keep this up we'll just about double our murder rate from last year.

it would be fair to work a 5 day week and use seniority to pick days off . This would force the brylcreme kids to take time due for overtime if they ever want to have a week end off. It would save city alot of overtime money .
With 20 yrs on I deserve sat and sun off and officers with less time could bid 1st and 3rd watch and have fri sat , sat sun off.
just a thought , that way management picks on 2nd watch would be required to work week ends

Last night North Avenue Beach was closed down again and Water Tower place was over run at Nordstroms by groups of "You guessed it again." GANGBANGERS!!! Tourists stay away from Chicago it's not safe here. Surbanites spend your money elsewhere we can't protect you anymore. We as police have no tools to protect you. The ACLU, Jesse Jackson, the US Attorney's office, and the Cook County States Attorney has made it clear. Anybody can do whatever they want, whenever they want. And if the police try to stop gangbangers from exercising their rights, they (the police) are subject to prosecution. Good luck Chicago. You have been overrun. Tourists, citizens, and suburban visitors use your better judgement and stay far away from downtown Chicago. You are simply in danger everytime you come here.

Can the powers that be explain why only 8 districts received a boost in manpower from MSF/TRU? Isn't the entire department,specifically Patrol, understaffed? I'm pretty sure some of these shootings and homicides happened in some of the districts not deemed as worthy of additional manpower.

Take a look at the numbers for the 018th District. I would bet we are down at least 150. That doesn't take into account the people detailed out too. I've been there 10 years and some of those people I've never seen. Taker them off the district manning sheets and get an accurate count for all the districts.

Chicago - There were large crowds and a few tense moments Friday after several fights broke out on the beach -- this one brought the Chicago Police Mounted Patrol into the thick of things.
The horses helped break up the crowd, and the trouble makers went their way without police having to make any arrests.
I haven't been on all week because I was having a problem with my computer by why did they ONLY close North Ave beach on Monday? Was it that much hotter there then on all the other beaches? WOW that is amazing. It was notter theree then 1/2 to the south or north.

CHICAGO (STMW) - Police issued a community alert on Friday after three women and a man were pepper sprayed and robbed in separate incidents this week in the North Side Lake View neighborhood.

I was working last night and there appeared to be a large concentration of solar flares by the McDonalds at Chicago and State. Now if we could get McDonalds to shut down that reactor maybe just maybe the solar flares will burn out and the beaches will be safe from the intense heat the solar flare emits. I have been there before, and in those projects in the 90's. That doesn't mean that my family, who is forced to live in this shit hole city, should expect to be accosted or attacked when downtown or at the fucking beach, tough guy.
This is a serious problem that the assholes this city elected have ignored and are now lying about. I don't give a fuck how bad it was back in the day when you were a bad ass cop. It's bad enough now that my family is at risk in the best parts of this city.

G-Puppet needs to shut down the streets, having worked at the beaches to avert further heat related problems, this would prevent further shootings. I've always been in a rotating day off group and rotated watches for many years and was glad to see the light of day when I was younger by way of rotation. I don't see the reason for your suggestion other than to kill any morale the younger crew might have.

I went to the beach today with my kids. One man car was there sporadically to check for village parking stickers. There were about 50 teenagers. 50 young kids and assorted moms' and dad's. A few people fishing on the edges. Besides a little harmless grabass, a short throw the big kid in the water wrestling match, some frisbee smacks to the wrong person, the worse thing was a few swans coming by with their baby swans, and they gotta alittle aggressive.
I lived in Chicago for 43 years. Moved out 3 years ago. Never looked back.
014 had an on view by PO's foot chase and caught the little POS. Get this he is a juvi on double secret probation for what for it!!! A gun. Yes this summer is going to be good.

Hey, they built a new bike path bridge over into Maywood, too, and there are certainly no groups of hostile young black men blocking the Illinois Prairie Path out there, either.
The North Avenue bridge is prospectively the world's most spectacular high-altitude garbage pail, linear urinal, spray-paint-catcher, and mugger trap. ohh heres an idea... do your job without hitting somebody. if someone "spits" on you as the sgt "claims" then you need to restrain yourself... I know you get taken care of in a unit most of the time, but is it really that great that you let the city shit on the contract. Stop going to the bs units and giving up contractual rights. Hang in the districts and let the city management fail because they refuse to play fair.

If you have 28 years on then you understand how hard we fought for senority rights and a union. Remember life before FOP and a contract? Every decision based on the whim of a Irish boss. Back in the 1980's they fucked us over with DOG's, weekends, details. assignments, transfers. We will never give up senority. No one is stopping you from working in your beat car. Think about this. In the last 7 years, who trained and guided new PPO's after the academy? The FTO program is bullshit. Now we have a percentage of officers that do not have the knowledge to perform effective police work. I appreciate your work ethic, but never challenge the basic work rights we have today. Imagine life without work rules? The current crop of bosses will absolutely fuck us over.

Where have you been? There are no furlo extenstions granted--comes from downtown. I've already been told, don't even try and take more than the 1/2 segement of the period.

I have to disagree with this post, at some points. Don't be pissed that a guy/girl wants to go to a unit to try something new. A lot of times, an officer needs a change of venue. They get disappointed when the tact teams are staffed with people who don't do shit, no one calls them on it, and there is no chance to make the tact team. These young officers just want a chance to prove themselves. Those that were ungraciously dumped with 4 days notice, weren't upset about having to work a beat car, or answer jobs. They were moreso upset with the lack of notice of reassignment, and or the lengthy drive they now have to undertake. In addition, most of these officers took pride in the mission they undertook while in MSF and TRU. They really thought they were making a little bit a difference in what they set out to accomplish each night. were there some there just for the ride, absolutely, but a lot were proud of what they were trying to accomplish. Sometimes, it may have been misunderstood, but I really think these officers tried and gave a shit about what they were trying to do.
So far, they have been stellar where I work. Running around, answering jobs, doing the right thing. I'm thankful for what they were doing in the units, and now I'm thankful for what they are doing in the district. These young officers are ambitious, thats all they are guilty of, don't hate them for what you used to be, or never were. Maybe they came of the job for something different than you did. I understand the contractual protections, its not their intent to "give" them up, but when they are offered an opportunity to try something new and exciting its hard to turn that down.

Was it Hilliards recommendation to get rid of the units? No offense but policing needed to change some what over the years, with flash mobs etc. Getting rid of units has been done over and over again and always proven to be the wrong decision. Can a commander really be held responsible for the behavior of criminals, once again the parents are never held accountable for their own.
It starts at the very top to come up with ideas, not throw the blame off on others. A boss needs to implement ideas, we are waiting...
I vote McGUFF for McCarthy's new nickname.
The rampant crime in the City of Chicago is nothing new. The only thing new is the mass attack in Streeterville, Lincoln Park, etc...
As far as the homicides and shootings... they are still occurring mainly in the ghetto. The victims and offenders trade places every-other-day, and the innocent folks (as opposed to what the media wants you to believe) are RARELY (but not never) the victims.
Stay out of the high crime areas and remove the possibility of being the random innocent victim. Then let these thugs take care of each other! The numbers will climb until they kill each other off!
After the liberals from near north see how the urban youth act, they may be forced to change their views! This is probably a very needed exposure.
As far as the suburbanites....KEEP yourselves and your children, out of the danger zone! If you keep your head in the sand and ignore the danger warnings, you WILL be a victim. It is amazing how many unexposed suburbanites believe that the extent of crime is overrated. These are the same people who will frequent the beaches (despite warnings), insist on lakefront evening walks, attend concerts in the area at Northerly Island and the new Lakeside venue. I warn everyone I know, don't send your teenagers to Lakeside in the middle of July (or any other time for that matter). There is a guarantee that there will be many victims!!!
If you Keep your head in the sand then I promise you, you will be dealing with the remorse when you or your family become victims!

A very good point. Those units exist to skirt contractual rights of officers. If no one went there, they would have to at least let the union give the officers assigned there the right to return to their original districts.
Won't happen, though. Cops go for themselves more often than not.

I have no doubt that they have been stellar in the districts they have been reassigned to. I am sure many of them are excellent coppers. That was not the point of my post. They could have stayed put in the districts and been stellar coppers with out giving up the contractual coverage. This is not the same police department from years past. Going to a unit to make a difference no longer exists. When a cop goes to a unit today all they are doing is placing themselves in a trick bag to be dumped or sued. Also, you and I both know the old adage get out of patrol as soon as you can. That is what they were doing, they did not think they were making a difference. That use to be true, get out of patrol as soon as you can, but that mentality is what put patrol in the position it is today. We all know what dire straits this entire department is in, and it is not all of the cities fault, many of the blue shirts can take some of the blame also.

The qualification to be considered a suburbanite is to have used a suburban address as your official address at any point in time within the last 20 years.
The dang suburbanites are ruining our city!
