Not Trigger Happy

Frank Main, where are you? (oh wait, it's a Tribune story):
  • A knife-wielding man walked into a Gage Park neighborhood Walgreens this morning and stabbed three people before he was arrested by police, authorities said.

The man, in his 20s, entered the store in the 5500 block of South Kedzie Avenue at about 1 a.m., police said. He stabbed two women and a man, according to Officer Amina Greer, a police spokeswoman.

"He walked in, he looked normal," said a store worker, Manuel Rodriguez. "But he had a butcher knife."

Yeah, because normal people walk around with butcher knives in case they run into a side of beef somewhere.

We'll bet each of those people stabbed is wishing there was a "trigger happy copper" around somewhere, on or off duty.

*smiling*

When I read the story, a daydream popped into my head of my Sig Sauer getting some action dropping this guy!

Knife to a Gunfight

daydream to nightmare-- momma on news saying, "sure he was schizophrenic, bipolar, drunk, high on PCP and just got dumped by his girlfriend... but that don't give the police reason to kill him like a dog! 16 shots!?!"

Or better yet a person who was legal to conceal carry. Oops forgot we the normal tax paying citizens can't protect ourselves. And a cop is to heavy to carry around on our backs.

and when you shoot him they cry out "why did you shoot he only had a knife". like that is not a dangerous weapon. remember, a man with a knife can close the distance of 30 feet and stab you before you can get off a good shot. and i think id rather be shot than stabbed. think of the damage..

I've talked to SWAT guys before. They say they don't usually talk about it but when they walk into the grocery store, they case the joint thinking "what if he's behind this aisle...or that door...". Nothing wrong with being prepared.

Or maybe wish that Gov. Jello would support concealed carry?

A "perfect' example of what concealed carry would have stopped in a second.

Bad guy pulls out knife, citizen in fear of his (or her) life, pulls out their gun a BANG, end-of-story.

Everyone goes home except the bad guy who probably should have been locked up anyway.

===================================
If they've got any sense, they're more likely wishing they lived in the United States and had the right to carry a concealed firearm.

The odds of a police officer being present when somebody starts stabbing you with a butcher knife for no discernible reason are about on par with those of DICK Daley constructing a coherent sentence or of Obama telling the truth.

I wholeheartedly agree. After spending enough time on the streets, you've got to come to the conclusion that it's possible that the odds of an off-duty situation can occur right in front of you. We should always "case" premises that we enter, least we be surprised or are unprepared. If we think tactically at all times we have a better chance of surviving an "unexpected" encounter. That "edge" may not always translate into survival, but at least you have a fighting chance.

Went to that active shooter class and after 25 years actually learned new things, thanks for the extra training and the real live fire! Now i know about "corners" the "fatal funnel" which many coppers still use!

Things are so bad in this shit city (even in the 'good' neighborhoods) that I've instructed my young children as to what to do in the event that mommy has to take police action. Started when we were grocery shopping and I was 99% certain that either the store or bank branch within was about to be robbed. I tried to alert store security (none present) and had to settle with a produce clerk! Got looks as if I was crazy (and racist) and finally got the hell out of there. Left a full grocery cart and got my kids out.
After that my mind raced as to what would have happened if I had to shoot some asshole in the jewel, in front of my
kids. Sadly, my 8 and 9 year old children leanred more this year than how to play piano and how to fish. Thanks,
to the liberals and democrats for making that a necessary
lesson for my innocent children.

In fact such knife welding cretins might just make a 'poor victim selection' and attack one of them.
