007 Police Shooting

Once again, officers fine:
  • A man was wounded in a Chicago-police involved shooting Tuesday in the South Side's Englewood neighborhood.

No officers were hurt, but the full extent of the civilian's wounds was not immediately known.

The shooting happened about 5:30 p.m. at West 73rd and South Morgan Streets, police said.

Waiting for the "reverends" to protest on behalf of the police victims in 3....2.....1.....

(....and somewhere, a cricket chirps)

His wife went back to N.Y. and he spends an inordinate amount of time cocktailing down on Rush street. McCarthy is just resume building until Kelly becomes Mayor. Then he goes back to N.Y. too, just like Bratton did.

That business about yelling and embarrassing the Command Staff at Compstat and then laughing about it later only works when you have old cronies to laugh with. So far you just look like an arrogant bully.

We are not pulling in one direction and we spend more time worrying about meetings than doing police work, just like before. Compstat can be a good tool, but like all things, is not the only thing. Rely too much on one thing, and it eventually becomes the problem. Compstat is already a problem.

My question is- how is "he" moving officers? Isn't that what the city is paying the Supt for? Who's really in charge here? Or maybe this is what is meant by "transparency" in gov't. We actually get to see that the Supt of Police has no power, it's the Mayor!

Chicago Police Department Shifting More Officers To Beat Patrols

Mayor Rahm Emanuel will announce this morning that he is moving 114 police officers from special units and administrative positions to beat patrols throughout the city, according to his administration.

Starting Thursday, 59 officers who are in special units and 55 who have desk jobs in the patrol bureau will be shifted to the streets. The announcement will take place at a 10 a.m. news conference on the North Side that also features Police Supt. Garry McCarthy.

BTW, McCarthy ADMITTED that they are playing a shell game as FOP has claimed but said they have identified jobs being performed by PO's and eliminated those positions in order to return those officers to street duty. Anybody seen them anywhere?

The civilian's wounds? How about calling him "the offender", or the "suspect", or the "criminal". These small time, amateur news organizations sicken me. And yes, I think that the Tribune, as well as the SunTimes, have lost their big league status and are now barely relevant and amateurish. It's their own fault for not investigating stories thoroughly and having a blatant left wing liberal bias. They won't be around much longer because of it.

Activist demands apology from Emanuel for obscenity

[...]

The mayor has not denied Lewis' claim that he pointed his finger at the union leader while dropping the f-bomb after she suggested the longer school day should not be used for babysitting children.

Activist the Reverend Paul Jakes has written a letter demanding the mayor apologize.

"I know that African-American women have been victims continuously down through the years of disrespect and we as an African-American community will not stand for it," said Rev. Jakes.

But Alderman Emma Mitts said there's nothing racial about it and and who knows what Lewis may have said to Emanuel.

"I know there's two sides to every story, and somtimes three sides to every story. So what really went on," said Mitts.

"If I had been there and used this type of language to any woman, there would not be any quiet, it would not be any acceptance. The town would be in uproar," said Jakes.

http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/local&id=8352941

==========

Who knows what really went on says Mitts...I think we can fix that.

Install pod cams in the Mayors office, all the aldermen's offices and in these meetings so the taxpayers can have REAL open government. Put the recorded video's up on youtube that's all.

Let's see what they are doing all day -- what the taxpayers are paying for.

OT--

Home invasion/robbery/murder in home on 5300 bk. N. NW Hwy -- guy had been a city truck driver, well liked by neighbors, 30 years living there, found dead in "grisly scene" basement, car stolen but found nearby in lot at 5316 N. Milwaukee.

10-15 years ago, poor working people could live OK here -- walk to work, grocery, drugstore, bank, post office. Bus line right there to take you to Park Ridge or Jeff Park.

There were machine shops, metal processing operations, tool-and-die shops, box factories, a place that made concrete grave vaults, a wood-products factory -- all sorts of small productive enterprises, heart and soul of the city.

Now semi-gentrified, most factories shut down for condo projects that stopped suddenly in mid-stride when the bottom came out. Schiele Graphics, for one.

No jobs anymore and no condos either, just empty -- the big presses and equipment unbolted from the floors and trucked away.

Drugstore gone, hot dog place gone, bank branch gone.

Some of those "converted" old cash-cow ten-flats from 1960 suddenly had five or six "FOR SALE" signs crowded in the lawn -- real problems when the first buyers found sewage leaking down walls, roofs that needed replacement, etc.

Coffee shop in the very-expensively-refurbished Norwood Park train station has died, shut its doors.

The speculators destroyed the neighborhood. It's a tragedy.

VOLUME 11 14 September 2011 NUMBER 8

CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT

PAX 501

Garry F. McCarthy

Superintendent of Police

I’d like to take a moment to thank each member of this Department for their commitment in helping reduce crime.

Officers demonstrate remarkable courage and dedication on a daily basis as they respond to calls for service

and face danger while upholding the values of honor and integrity.

These efforts have helped diminish crime by 20 percent in August and the first two weeks of September 2011

when compared to the same period of time last year.

Every category of violent index crimes decreased during this time. Homicides decreased by 31 percent;

shootings were down by 21 percent: and aggravated battery decreased 18 percent.

As we move to continue our efforts to strengthen the safety of Chicago’s neighborhoods, Mayor Emanuel and

I announced the redeployment of 114 police officers to districts throughout the city.

Of these 114 officers, 59 will be redeployed from special units, and the remaining 55 are coming from

administrative positions within the Bureau of Patrol.

These redeployments will take effect Thursday, September 15, 2011. Our goal is to strengthen safety in every

police district throughout the city and keep every community safe.

The numbers we announced today show that our efforts are starting to gain traction and crime is going down.

This is by no means a victory, but it is an encouraging sign that the work we are doing each and every day is

starting to take hold and we are gaining ground.

Thank you for your hard work and commitment to keeping this great City safe.

For more information, you can find the press release at http://intranet.chicagopolice.local/newsaffairs/pressReleases.asp?field=Date+Created&order=desc
