Police at Fault
- A 13-year-old boy was in serious condition Tuesday after being shot in the chest in a Monday night shooting in the Rogers Park neighborhood that left two other teens wounded.
The three teens were on the corner in the 1600 block of West Pratt Boulevard about 7:30 p.m. when a male suspect fired at them, then fled, according to police News Affairs. Police initially listed the address of the shooting as the 6800 block of North Ashland Avenue.
Pameya Campbell said her son, Javanis Barksdale, 13, was an eighth grader at CPS Kilmer School near the site of the shooting.
[...] She said her son was not in a gang. Campbell said her son played basketball, soccer, football and swam in addition to going to church.
Campbell said police were not doing their jobs.
"Where are the pastors? Where are the reverends? All the officers said to me, 'ma'am this is a bad corner,’” Campbell said. "I am not a police officer. I expect when my child leaves home, I expect for the police to do their job, and it's not being done."
In any event lady, how about taking up your beef with the mayor? He's about to eliminate around 2,000 unfilled officer spots to balance his budget. You think maybe one of more of them might have been able to stop this shooting?
But the media reports her bullshit as fact and that's all anyone is going to remember come contract time - the police aren't doing their jobs. This town is a joke, the mayor calls the tune and the media can't get enough of the smell of Rahm's ass.

Davis and Brame were found dead in their homes less than a month apart in April 2006. Each suffered what appeared to be ax wounds to the head, Assistant State’s Attorney John Maher said.
Obvious she is either lying or has no idea what Junior is doing when he leaves the house. All three of these yoots have angered somebody and they decided to settle the score. As usual the Momma's mouth is not connected to her brain. Many of these kids have two lives. The life in front of Momma and the life when they go out the front door and into the streets with their friends.
If you look further into the case the 20 year old was arrested after being treated at st. francis hospital. The person was arrested for probation violation because he was on "gang" home confinment. But her son was not a gang member but the child he was with was a convicted gang member that was supposed to be in the house at 1900 hours. The media is quick to listen to scanners to get a good story but yet don't want to get the full facts straight. And the mother wants more police patrols, but will bitch and moan racial profiling or other b.s. when her child gets picked up for something or moved along for gang loitering every day by the increased police patrols
Ah yes, blame the police when you're too ashamed to look in the mirror and confront the failures of your life lil mama. Isn't it interesting to note that those very people who excoriate the police for doing the job that is required and needed on the street, are the very ones clamoring that the police are mistreating and harassing those same "innocent black kids who are the root of the problem?

I drive by that corner at least 3-4 times a week getting my son from our babysitter up there. That corner ALWAYS has little "Hoppers" HANGING OUT there at that Al Queda Mart. Easy solution, get rid of that little "blunt mart" and let these kids work on their home work. 024 always has a wagon or some such vehicle parked there in the afternoons. Hundreds of people drive by that corner every day and see the same riff raff doing nothing except giving people hard stares as they go by.

Seems a lot people forget about the parenting part. They pop out babies and sit back and expect society to take care of them. Nothing will change until people wake up and start taking responsibility for their kids.

1)The bosses are great.
2)I don't know, It's been a while.
3) It is a new station (at least occording to city time) it opened in the '70's.

If a parent doesn't know about their child's life, they are either mentally disabled or they don't care to know. Not too many disabled parents out there.

No one walks their kid home from school at 13. Oh, I get it, this was one of those honor students who was going to night school!

To 1220 am. 024 is a decent place to work. Some good bosses some shaky. Some workers some dogs but for the most part the pos are good people. There is work to do if you want to. Misdemeanor and felony are at 1330 hrs. A lot of liberal citizens on the east end of the district. Its been a few years since I've been there but having worked in area 1 and area 5. area 3 is a different world.

Its the worst Dist on the North Side but nothing like South and West Side.Worked for the new Cmdr J.R. in different capacities and he is one of the best. The afternoon W/C's are OK, the Sgts are good. Midnights is a really good bosses but the young watch is dangerously short on manpower. 2nd watch has good Sgts but 2 really shaky W/C's and the most hated/obnoxious Desk Sgt in the 100 + yr history of the CPD. The station is old and tired but adequate. Although I'm gone for a few years now, mostly great memories.

I worked in that district for 10 years as a member of the Fire Dept. I can not say enough good abouth the police officers I ever came in contact with in Rogers Park. It is NOT an easy area to work in, either for the Police or the Fire guys and girls. There are truly some savages who live in that neighborhood.

My mom had seven kids and didn't depend on anyone else to watch to watch HER kids. My dad was never home because he worked about 46 jobs but the threat of the beating we'd receive upon his imminent return was always an impending doom. She cracked us when we deserved it and sometimes when we didn't (you probably did somethingI missed)she probably would've cracked the copper if we had ever threatened to call one but we weren't fools. She did her JOB. Do your job mothers or just quit having kids. It's not hard anymore to not have kids.
