Shooter Shot by Police

  • Two men were fatally wounded within minutes of each other Thursday night in the same neighborhood on the city's Northwest side, one in a police-involved shooting.

The first man was killed about 10:30 p.m. in the 4900 block of North Troy Street, said Pat Camden, spokesman for the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police.

Police who heard the shots responded to the call and attempted to pull over a dark-colored SUV leaving the area, Camden said.

When officers tried to pull the SUV over in the 5300 block of North Kedzie Avenue – about five blocks from the first shooting – a passenger jumped out, fired at police, and ran down an alley, Camden said.

Police returned fire and gave chase, Camden said. The man shot at police again and police shot back, killing the man, Camden said.
A whole lot of "Camden said..." in there. That's nice to see again. And an excellent job by the the involved officers - no police were injured.

At least the Cook County States Attorney and judicial system will be saved the embarrassment of explaining why they paroled this guy in 2014 after serving 3 years for murder.

The criminal who shot at the cops got what he deserved. The story is not clear on whether they were able to arrest the driver, are there other suspects held or arrested. Hopefully the driver did not get away. Anyone have any futher generic information that can be shared with the public? I don't care to know who they are just that someone else was taken into custody because it sounds like more were involved.

I live in this neighborhood and appreciate the fine men and women of 17 for all they do. Very very nice work, Blue! Thank You!

Reports Friday, though, indicate that some are pointing the finger at one of the newest figures in Obama's inner circle: Chief of Staff Bill Daley. Wild-ass hype charged in Gladstone Park beating death; slashes ER nurse in face, attacks and tries to disarm officer

Sources- Chicago Tribune, WBBM Radio 780

September 16, 2011

"A neighbor of a 56-year-old man found beaten to death in his Gladstone Park neighborhood home has been charged with his murder, police said this morning.

"Daniel Tyler, 34, also faces three charges related to an incident while he was being treated for self-inflicted wounds at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center while in police custody.

"While at the hospital about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Tyler went to the restroom, and when he came out, he attacked a medical staff member with some sort of glass object, cutting the victim in the face severely enough to require stitches, police said.

"Tyler then hit a police officer in the head and tried to disarm the police officer, police said.

"Tyler has had several arrests, most of them drug-related, in Cook County since 2009. In October 2009, he pleaded guilty to felony possession of a controlled substance.

"Tyler has missed a number of court dates...He again was charged with violating probation in March of this year, and a warrant was issued for his arrest...

"Tyler also has a warrant out for his arrest in case that began with his initial arrest July 18 in a northwest suburb on a charge of resisting a peace officer and possessing a hypodermic syringe."

When an officer a prisoner guard in a hospital is savagely attacked by a HOMICIDE OFF from 016 that is a Red Flag. These are the residule effects of a purposefully undermanned police Dept. New order is out today. The department isued new rules for light and limited duty status. Officers will have to actually apply and submit documents to the medical section to prove why they deserve light duty status. About time that standards are set to eliminate the fakers on this job. If a officer is legitimately recovering or has a actual injury then let him/her recover. But to be on light duty for years is bullshit. This will force more old timers to retire and the fakers will be exposed. It is too easy to obtain a light duty status for the CPD.

Well let's close some police stations then?

Isn't it amazing that these so-concerned civic organizations that are so concerned about the cities budget that they do an analysis of police and fire stations per sq mile and then conveniently ignore the number of alderman as compared to the top ten cities?

======clip====

Ald. Cardenas Calls for Police, Fire Closures

Ald. George Cardenas (12th Ward) on Friday urged Mayor Rahm Emanuel to take the potentially unpopular step of closing some of the city’s police stations and firehouses to help eliminate a $635.7 million budget deficit.

Cardenas said he believes the city could save between $50 million and $70 million by closing some of the the city’s 25 police stations and more than 90 firehouses. A member of the City Council’s budget committee, Cardenas said he plans to meet with some of Emanuel’s top aides to ask them to include a plan for consolidating police and fire facilities in the mayor’s 2012 budget proposal, which will be unveiled next month.

“It’s something that’s tough to talk about, but we can’t keep doing the same things over and over again,” Cardenas said. “We have to bite the bullet.”

[...]

Police officials did not immediately reply to requests for comment.

The Chicago News Cooperative reported in May that only New York and Philadelphia have more firehouses per square mile than Chicago among the 10 largest U.S. cities. While the number of fires has dropped dramatically in recent decades, the Chicago Fire Department’s staffing level has remained unchanged.

[...]

“The Civic Federation is concerned that despite an enormous budget gap and structural deficit, the city of Chicago has not announced plans to reduce fire department expenditures,” the report stated. “During a time of extraordinary fiscal stress, every city department – including public safety departments – should be reducing costs and performing more efficiently.”

Come-on...two aldermen per police station. Let's go...move-it, move-it, shut down the ward offices and move-it

We have 50 aldermen and 25 districts.

What do these people need their own separate office with all that duplication for?

We could save millions.

You gonna tell us that it's more important to have an alderman's office closer to the people than it is to have police and fire protection?

I'm not buying it. Put it to your constituents and lets see what they say.

Shut down all those ward offices and move them into the district.

We have room for the homeless, so we have room for the aldermen too.

Just scooch over a little bit and we'll set your desks up over there by the mold spores...don't worry it's okay...if we have to shelter in place because of some natural disaster you'll only have to breath the stuff until we get an all clear...or you're dead whichever comes first.

This is a way that you can reach out and get in touch with the constituents of your community, show us your tech savvy multilingual skills of the 21st century.

We'll save lights, heat, phone, building maintenance, water, gas, personal...taxpayers will have one stop shopping to get their parking tickets ..."straightened out"

Oh and the best part about moving the alderman's offices into the police stations... LOOK AT ALL THE SECURITY THAT SOME OF YOU ARE CRAVING WILL HAVE.

Oh yeah baby. It makes sense on so many levels. Open 24/7 to the public. Open government -- that's what I'm talking about.

Put some internet pod cams in there too so the taxpayer can check to see if they are in their offices before they waste time, money, and energy to visit them to find out why the rats as big as cats as still roaming their alleys...

Then cut it 50 to 25.

Cops search for Cook County sheriff missing from South Side

Police were searching for a 53-year-old Cook County sheriff who went missing Thursday from the city's South Side.

Willie Jackson was last seen wearing his uniform and a red jacket in the area of the 9600 block of South Commercial Avenue in the city's South Deering neighborhood, police said.

Jackson had parked his car in front of his home and left his wallet and sheriff identification card behind. Police said he was still carrying his duty weapon and Illinois driver's license.

Jackson has worked as a sheriff for 17 years and was assigned to the courtrooms at the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center

Not All Residents Think Police Cameras Are Deterring Criminals

[...]

The Office of Emergency Management and Communications calls the cameras a success, but for a long time now some West-Siders have wondered who is watching their camera.

They want to know why no one seems to see the crime they’re living with on their Garfield Park block – from big brawls to cutting and selling drugs. Home video shows it all happening either around or right under their POD, otherwise known as a blue-light camera.

“Drug dealers are over there all the time. They don’t care if the camera is watching or not,” said one resident, who asked to remain anonymous....

You forgot to mention that the officer guarding that crazy ass Tyler at Illinois Masonic Hospital was a 99 unit. How in the hell did a 99 unit end up guarding a murder suspect by himself? Whatever supervisor allowed that officer to guard a murder suspect by himself needs to turn in his/her star and resign. This officer could have been seriously injured or killed if that suspect had disarmed him. Fortunately, the officer was able to defeat any attempts by the suspect to disarm him.

The Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department will resign Monday according to inside sources within the NYPD. Sources state that newly appointed, ex NYPD and Newark standout Gerry McCarthy has himself in some hot water with Rahm Emmanual. It goes on and on..... check out the link www.associatedpressnewyork:chicagosup/45632243456/nypdreader/.g

Sorry, your link doesn't work.
This would be great, if it were true, but a google search doesn't support your info, either. Try again.

But I agree with you office. Develop a plan to screen for the fakers and keep the legit light duty officers inside. Is it wrong to ask officers to justify their light duty status with the proper documentation? Watch how many bullshit light duty officers start to cry and bitch about this new order. It is not hard to screen the fakers.

The medical section makes the light duty determination now

the shoot out at 5335 n. kedzie the other night ended up in our favor--- both of those officers involved could easily been killed or seriously injured by gunfire--- they went home to their families and the bad guy went to the morgue, thank god for that --- 017 may be a slow district but shit does happen there--- the police department has robbed us of our manpower and we go out with a skeleton crew every night--- it works until something big happens and then we have problems--- a big thank you to 020 and 016 who came and helped out, you guys are the best....

Fortunately, the officer was able to defeat any attempts by the suspect to disarm him.

how about these jagoff supervisors that cry when a one man unit guarding someone and they need to go to the bathroom or lunch and the sgt starts crying on the air. hey pussy why don't you releive these officers. " prick head "

For the citizens of this city, we are so undermanned go buy a gun. The media is not allowed to tell you how bad it is. The actuaries tell the city don't hire statistics tell is a funeral for a copper or two is cheaper than a few thousand. Yes we are all expendable, didn't the most recent congressional medal of valor recipient disobey an order because it was too dangerous.Moons has any idea what it is like, if the military is scared for their troops why aren't we, simple the city the mayor the alderman don't care we mean nothing. Think if this, what if we the police did absolutely nothing but answer calls and that was all, it would result in anarchy. Did anyone listen to mayor bloomburg, he fears that what will happen in this economy. Im a police officer and a citizen of chicago and I tell u the citizens and the media Webster a joke of a police department. We the policeman are good but the bureaucracy prohibits us from doing any good. Call ur alderman, a garbage can a tree cut down your streets plowed is nothing. When your asleep and a man breaks into your house and you need the police but there is moons there, that is more important. We need the police and fire and if you unhappy with us call your local seven eleven when someone is in your house .

Its great how we can become divided and conquered so easily. Oh ya those guys who worked in units where they never took a domestic call or burg report are know realizing what police works all about again and being short handed is the issue. Fakers yes some. but how many 50 maybe 100 were short 2000. Come on most guys are legit. All this will do is paper back all those who fake.

Damn! If even Ernie Brown wants out of town, how bad is it?

=

Well for starters he's going to collect one hell of a pension, then get well over $100,000 for this job at the same time. I remember reading an article calling this "double dipping" very recently. But that only applies to retired blueshirts working at the airport apparently. So, to answer your question, it's not bad at all
