Terror Threat Warning
Not what anyone wants to hear with the 9/11 Anniversary coming up:
- A "specific, credible" threat has emerged surrounding the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, U.S. officials said Thursday.
But they emphasized that there was a great deal of uncertainty about the threat and said they were acknowledging it out of an abundance of caution. NBC News said police in New York City and Washington had been alerted.
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said late Thursday 9/11 commemorations would go on as planned under heightened police presence already boosted for the weekend.
Recent intelligence, obtained within the past day, and originating from the tribal areas of Pakistan, advised the United States of a plan to set off car or truck bombs in Washington or New York around the time of the 9/11 anniversary, officials told NBC News.
We assume Washington DC is always on alert and Manhattan is going to locked down tighter than a drum. That leaves a lot of open space elsewhere, but a limited number of high-density, high-value-type targets around. And with a boatload of supervisors going to "radiation detection" classes this past week, one has to wonder what isn't being said out loud.

Saw the new Supe tonight for the first time in person at Father Nangles party. He was like William Wallace of Scotland. You see this person on TV and you hear about him in the locker room. He is suppose to be 6'6" and 300 Lbs. If he is 508 170Lbs I would be surprised! He is still the Supe and I will respect his title but I will not lose any sleep at night thinking he will cut my throat while sleeping in my bed. Getting back to Father Nangle. The timing of the warning to the People is curious. Right before Obama's big speach, almost as if to deflect attention. Maybe I am just cynical from being a Chicagoan and all, but that was my first thought on the matter.

Chicago has no plan or security...we can only hope that no one does anything in this unprotected city.
Its 10 years after 9/11 and 2/3 of the the Dept STILL doesn't have gas masks. Our manpower is 4,500 people short with veh's that are over 150,000 miles. When we see our politicians denying us tools essential to our job, standing in front of a camera and American flag on Sun it should make us physically ill. We are on our own and have only ourselves to depend on. As of Sept 12th we will be fair game and under attack again from those same polticians. It makes you really wonder who the real enemy is?

The Dept and City Hall are in complete denial and of a Clueless Pre-9/11 mentality. For us to thwart a major attack it will be a lucky routine traffic stop(probably in 024 or 018). The majority of our Dept hasn't even been supplied a gas mask. The Feds, especially the outwardly hostile Obama and Holder, are so clueless they are STILL pushing for trials in N.Y. for terrorists. 008th District received a phone call from downtown today to DUMP A BID DESK OFFICER (who also fills in as acting desk sergeant when needed) to the street and instead put a light duty officer in her spot. All in violation of the contract. Injured on duty officers on light duty MAY be put into an OPEN bid spot, pursuant to sections 18.3,18.4 of the contract. Nothing gives the city the right to dump a bid officer do the street because you want a light duty officer to have the spot that the bid officer already earned.
Blatant contract violation.

If the City can arbitrarily strip a bid officer of their right (earned by seniority) without good cause, then what the hell protection is the Contract? Seniority rights and bid rights are the core of union protection. If we don't protect those, then what the hell is a union for?

The FAA would not allow that construction near an airfield. Once Miegs was destroyed and closed, the FAA lost jurisdiction. The southside irish will always sacrifice your safety for their profit.

What does it matter? None of us have been trained for any type of response to a disaster, be it man made or mother nature.

Other Depts. have thier officer's take their squads home with them.
The State Police do.
The officer's take care of those vehicles as if they were their own.
They can store their equipment in those vehicles without fear of forgetting it and having someone "walk" off with it!
We here in Shitcago do not have that privledge.

008th District received a phone call from downtown today to DUMP A BID DESK OFFICER (who also fills in as acting desk sergeant when needed) to the street and instead put a light duty officer in her spot. All in violation of the contract. Injured on duty officers on light duty MAY be put into an OPEN bid spot, pursuant to sections 18.3,18.4 of the contract. Nothing gives the city the right to dump a bid officer do the street because you want a light duty officer to have the spot that the bid officer already earned.
Blatant contract violation.
FOP where are you?
If the City can arbitrarily strip a bid officer of their right (earned by seniority) without good cause, then what the hell protection is the Contract? Seniority rights and bid rights are the core of union protection. If we don't protect those, then what the hell is a union for?

Well I know there will be a few comments on this.
First, um... Did you call the FOP? How would they know about this if you didn't tell them?
Second, if the violated officer doesn't care, then it won't go anywhere.
Third, I hate to say it but, unless this person is near retirement, why bid for the desk in the first place? The desk is made for those that can't make it out on the street.
Just my opinion.

I am away from the job right now but that might actually be one of the few smart moves they made. All that manpower, in uniform, standing by, cars gassed up with their gear in the trunk.

Supposedly it is because she is a Captain and they do not want to pay Lieutenants premium pay to work out of grade out of district or area as WC. Where is their contract with this?

Fyi: sgts are getting trained in the use of portable radiation detectors. Prob a beeper size to be stuck on your belt and carried at all times. If it registers anything, drop paper, call all kinds of people. In the future, they will prob equip everybody with those, call us canaries in blue shirts!

I agree with you. FOP cannot monitor every event in the department. It takes a officer to file a greviance first. Posting complaints on the blog is not enough. if the officer was upset, she could file the greviance. It seems officers are afraid to file the greviance. The FOP will act when the officer takes action.
On the news our new Sup says he didn't think that Chicago was a terrorist target, is this guy for real? Willis Tower was on the terrorists hit list. WE are sos so screwed, the City of open arms and big hearts we have no plan and in just 8 short months we will get our asses kicked by sue crazy protestors. Monday 12 Sept , 60 people from our dept. are going to Anniston, Alabama for a 3 day class on crowd control, all free to us, they will then be the instructors to teach all of us dogs back here, sionce we don't have any qualified folks in the training division to teach us.
What if they target all the Targets?
New York City has a class anti terrorism unit and in Chicago, we can't man squad cars. How is it possible that Chicago, is so screwed up? We should be better than this.
