Cops Hurt in Wreck

  • At least four people were injured, one seriously, following a traffic crash at a South Side intersection involving two Chicago police vehicles.

Authorities didn't immediately state whether any police officers were hurt in the crash that happened near the intersection of 87th Street and Martin Luther King Drive at about 8:40 p.m.

The crash involved two police vehicles, according to a witness.
Get well soon officers.

I would just like to say thanks to each and every single P.O. who responded. I was one who had to be cut out of the vehicle that was involved in this crash. I have handled a few T-bone type crashes in my time, and none of them were pretty. I however was able to walk out the hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Big thaks to Sgt. JK and Sgt. McG for the help. And it was sure nice to see Cmndr Carter show up too.

with all the disrespect, and hatred towards the police, is it worth rushing too an inprogress call sending 4 P.O. 's to the hospital? hope they all get well soon, but i sometimes wonder. 30 year veteran.i have seen many of the police seriously hurt, disabled, killed.only ones that care are the rest of us, the police.slow down, our lives not worth rushing over to these scene of the crime with this dysfunctional group in our society.

Rule #1 responding to a copper needs assistance call is to get there. You know there are other coppers driving like crazy to get to the same place you are going to so be extra careful. Two squads, four coppers, down and unable to help and requiring help now themselves. Be careful, every time. Hope all recover well.

"I was one who had to be cut out of the"

Glad that you are OK. I was sitting with my wife in the ER room across from you last night when you were brought in. It was good to see that the sarge stayed with you brother.

The last time I was there was 25 years ago when one of the southside 'Amish' hit me while I was walking back to my squad.

I have to disagree with 04:47, on the matter that no one cares except fellow officers. My church prays every Sunday for our police and fire personnel. I do agree with the writer in advising everyone to be safe, especially in the high crime areas.

You don't get the right to bitch and second-guess what was happening as this crash took place.

Maybe they were responding to a 10-1, for all you know. Should they have dogged it on that, too?

How about you stop whining for one minute, just one, and wish the guys a speedy recovery and leave the rest of your post on the editing room floor? Oh, wait; not ONCE in your post did you send them good wishes, so there would be no post AT ALL if you edited out the bitching.

Hope everybody's okay (sounds like 0240 got lucky) - sorry for the rant.

In my earlier post I neglected to mention the fire dept. and their quick response. They showed up and were no nonsense all the way till they popped that door open. Thanks!

And I don't care if what the current climate is. This wasn't a "ghetto nonsense call". When another officer is looking for help, you go! Plain and simple. If you'd rather hide then you have no business being a police officer here or in any other agency.

Ticketing may bring in revenue, but statistics show city's proposed 'safety zones' are not where most kids are killed by speeders

Look at the mugs in that picture as they find the numbers presented in their documents were b.s...lol

To the CFD members on this blog, don't worry about a few childish POs who are trying to start a war between you guys and us over one incident. Just like our department, yours is going to have a few bad apples who do not represent the majority of CFD. I know for a fact that the majority of POs hold CFD in the highest regards and appreciate all you do for us. Sometimes people forget we are all in this together. Stay safe.

I agree with the guys from cfd who commented here. The important thing here is that we stick together. We are all due to get fucked next year at contract time. A united from would only help. Also lets also take care of each other out there on the streets. I for one will always make sure CFD is safe. Having the teachers union on our side would be nice too. We need to show Rahm that we are an effective voting bloc.

So its the coppers fault anytime they're in a crash? How about getting rear ended at a stop sign? A drunk driver swerving into the squad. Both have happened to me. Or someone blowing a stop sign/light that took the life of Mike Gordon!

You can drive however you want, but shit happens. No one can do a thing about that!

There is a big difference between dogging it and driving in a way that all but guarantees that eventually this kind of thing will happen.

These kind of accidents help no one. And if someone really needs your help, they need you alive and well where they are, not 20 blocks away wrapped around a utility pole.

Thanks for doing your job. We can surely say you don't have a choice in the matter, just as the police don't when CFD calls upon the police on a daily basis for help. We have no choice and respond to your calls and help you guys when a crowd advances towards you or you guys don't want to go into a ghetto building to check on granny because you know you won't get up the stairs without getting your asses kicked just for a joke. This life-saving courtesy goes two ways my friend..remember that. Either way, thanks for doing what you are called upon to do, too much liability if you ever decide not to.

I agree completely. We can be furious with one asshole CFD captain, but that doesn't mean we have to lump every CFD employee in with him.

Same as I don't want to be considered to be like Abbate, just because we happened to wear the same kind of uniform.

We better stick together, the city is going after us both, both barrels come contract time; no raises across the board. For us: they want to end all extra checks, and no holiday pay; Fire: they want to cut the manpower on rigs.

It will be an all-out war with the city, so let's get past this incident and form a solid relationship, a unified front to take on Rahm!

CPD vs CFD is such a stupid thing to say. You must be one of about 8% of all Chicagoans who do NOT have both a CPD and CFD member somewhere in your family. What happened between those personnel wasn't a good thing but it should be between them UNTIL the injured party feels he has been disregarded and the end result is that it was swept under a City of Chicago sewer cover. Then the party responsible should be punished not an entire fire department. Some of you should keep your big mouths shut because people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw bottles.

So you're saying in a crash between 2 police vehicles where they report 4 people are injured, they can't say if any police officers are injured? Who the hell writes this stuff and where did they learn to write?? I suppose it could have been the 15 year old police impersonator and some of his buddies driving, but use a little logic and common sense.

Get well soon officers!
