Killed Over Candy

We guess someone just had to do the "turkey leg murder" one better:
  • A woman was pronounced dead this morning after being stabbed on Halloween by a male friend who became angry over a missing bag of candy, officials said.

Maria Adams, 49, was stabbed with several steak knives about 2:30 p.m. Monday on the 7100 block of South Winchester Avenue in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, police said.

She was taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where she was pronounced dead Saturday, police said.

We can hardly wait for the next one to top this.

Go directly to jail! Grandmother 'repeatedly stabbed her boyfriend after he cheated at Monopoly'

[...]

Police said when the boy went to bed Chavez smashed a bottle over her boyfriend's head before picking up a kitchen knife and repeatedly stabbing him.

Paramedics arrived on the scene in Santa Fe, New Mexico to find the man bleeding heavily from his head, neck and right wrist area.

Chavez was reportedly found sitting under the porch spattered with the victim's blood.

When police asked if the blood belonged to her boyfriend, she replied 'yes, I f+++++ him up,' according to the arrest affidavit.

The victim was rushed to a local hospital where he is currently listed in stable condition.

Weeds too tall you will get a ticket. Loud radio get ready to pay a $750 fine. Run from the police with your ride pay $2,000. God knows what else is buried in this budget. And who will pay these fines? WE will be paying. How many people in this town still have jobs or the money to pay for all these bullshit infractions. The usual suspects never gave a rats ass anyway and will just laugh and throw the citations in the gutter. All that will happen is the good people will pack up and leave this shit hole because we won't be able to pay the freight. Just like Detroit. The Racoon could care less. When he is done using us he will move on to destroy something else.

OT:

Well SCC awhile back you had a post that stated that it looks like the city and state are not about saving jobs but about subsidizing corporations to move them elsewhere.

I'm happy to inform you that people are starting to pickup their pencils and calculators and sharing that conclusion, figuring out it's exactly that.

Look at this ...

The CEO of the CME is throwing a hissy fit about his $100 million dollar tax break.

The knee jerk response by the political apparatus and corporate apologist whenever these corporate tax break extortion demands come up is always "but it will save jobs".. Well as this story points out, what if we put that $100 million dollars a year someplace else to create new jobs and new opportunities instead of giving in to this never-ending extortion.

Then..

Caterpillars CEO came back from one of those Asia trade missions (that always brings those much needed jobs to Illinois hahaha) and some Chinese business men must have touched a nerve when they asked ...

-clip--

Oberhelman shared a story of a recent Asian business summit in China. Two Chinese businessmen asked why Caterpillar maintains its business presence in Illinois, with the state’s well-documented corruption and high business costs.

The question angered Oberhelman. When he returned to the U.S., he said he fired off a letter to Gov. Pat Quinn. To this point, it hasn’t done any good.

“Our biggest, most important plants are rooted here,” he said when an audience member pressed him on why Caterpillar does stay in Illinois. “From a corporate standpoint, it would be hard to uproot 4,000 engineers from our Peoria headquarters.”

He paused a moment and added, “But that doesn’t mean it’s forever.”

[...]

Also, this…

Business interests played a key role in the most significant restructuring of the corporate income tax code of the past decade or so, when the state restricted the tax to profit stemming from in-state sales and eliminated property value and payroll size from the formula.

The move cut tax bills of Illinois-based manufacturing giants and other multinationals, whose sales are spread worldwide. The cost to the state has been an estimated $100 million annually, [House Majority Leader Barbara Flynn Currie] said.

Proponents had projected the change would spur 285,000 new manufacturing jobs. Instead, the sector’s employment shrank to about 600,000, down from as many as 800,000 when the legislation took effect.

Cat was the number one cheerleader behind that change to the single-sales factor, which cut the company’s state tax burden down to almost nothing. Instead of adding workers like it promised, though, the company has cut back here and created new jobs in union-hostile states and in China. All Illinois really did was essentially subsidize Cat’s gradual move out.

* CME’s boss is angry, Cat’s boss is angry and the occupiers are angry about the taxpayer help already given to CME and Cat. Heck, even Mother Tribune is sounding a little occupyish these days…

Eight dead in Philippine feud over car

Eight people were killed as two warring Muslim clans clashed in a long-running feud stemming from the sale of a car, the local military commander said Monday.

Soldiers were deployed in a remote region of the southern island of Mindanao to stop the fighting that broke out on Friday, said local military commander Colonel Daniel Lucero.

"We have sent troops to pacify the warring clans. At least eight people have been killed on both sides since the fighting erupted," Lucero said.

The feud between the families of two local politicians has raged since 2002, according to Lucero.

"It all began with the non-payment of a vehicle sold to one of the clan leaders, and since then they have clashed sporadically," he said.
