Look Who Got Out

  • William Hanhardt, once a legendary Chicago cop who rose to deputy superintendent only to fall from grace with his conviction as the head of a crafty crew of mob-connected jewel thieves, was released from custody Friday after completing a 12-year sentence, his lawyer confirmed.

Hanhardt, 83, has been confined at his home since his release from a halfway house on Chicago's Near West Side in late September. He served the bulk of his time at a federal prison in Terre Haute, Ind. In all, he served more than 10 years in custody.

Time does fly.

WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?!!!!

I just saw his name on a transfer order Friday!!!

He was going to 025 to be Commander Joe Curtin's "XO"!!

I am really starting to think something is wrong with this job.

Before you know it, ol' Rod will be out, and at least twelve years will have flown by. That Hanhardt thing seemed like it was just a short time ago.

What a tool. This guy was an arrogant piece of shit. But then again I would of been also if my clout was the mob.

Unfortunately things never change. Instead of the outfit you have reverends, LAPA and the Irish that make sure incompetence is the rule of thumb.

Legendary? I'm too young to know, but did this guy do any real police work in his career or was he just a political hack?

When and if, Blago goes to jail, he will get a pardon from Obama. I say Blago doesn't do more than a few months.

Just another Daley appointee, only this one got grabbed. The outfit has always had strong conection with city hall. Many years ago when I came on the job, my father (also a policeman ) warned me about this guy and several other bosses. He ruined many good coppers, blocked transfers and promotions and dirtied some that might have stayed clean if not for the influence of city hall.
Guess what, some of these bosses are still around, still in power under this "reform" mayor and his connected stooges.

What a sad ending. I never thought of Bill Hanhardt as arrogant, flashy perhaps, but not arrogant. He and his partner Hinchy, did do some great police work back in the day. Nobody ever really suspected the truth back then.

The important question that was never asked was who promoted this guy? He didn't magically become a deputy.

Bill Hanhardt was one of the best chief of detectives we ever had. We were shocked by his "dark side".

A manhunt was launched by Mississippi's Democratic Attorney General Jim Hood to find four convicted murderers pardoned, and released by outgoing Republican Governor Haley Barbour. Mr Hood also temporarily blocked the release of 21 more inmates who had controversially been given pardons, or medical release by Governor Haley Barbour in one of his final acts in office. Mr. Barbour gave reprieves to more than 200 inmates.

...and damned lucky he is to still have such a house to go to, someone cleaned it and kept the property taxes paid and the heat on all this time.

Now he can look out the blinds once in a while...

You are a dumbf*ck. He is the worst kind of criminal. Did you lick his balls for him when he was your boss? He used his position to participate in a sophisticated jewel theft ring--and much worse, and you're welcoming him home?

Did you welcome Bill Cozzi home?

He should be ashamed to walk the streets. And you're an idiot for defending him. He tarnished the entire department and did unquantifiable damage to all of our reputations.

I don't care how much of a 'man' he was, or how big his balls were--he's a fucking criminal.

I truly can't believe how stupid you are.

You have got to be kidding me! Welcoming home a convict that got away with God knows what?

Bosses had big balls and criminal connections that made them untouchable. You must be a criminal too, to welcome this sorry excuse for a human being back.

Organized crime and politics go hand in hand in this criminal City. The regular guy guy squeezed, the tax payer gets fleeced and idiots like you welcome back the Devil.

Unpublished Dumbass, your comment got screened because it was wrong. That particular individual was dead along with Bill Henry by the time the scandal broke. We were sparing you the embarrassment of being wrong. The rest of your fantasy remains as it always has been - wrong.

I don't believe that the first poster was referring to a Police Officer. Cerone was "jackie the lackey," of outfit fame. As I recall it later appeared that he and Hanhardt were somehow connected.
