Mobile Field Force

Who has the scoop?

A temporary volunteer detail due to run all summer and fall?

Any guarantees you get to go back to your Unit of Assignment or are they running short in Englewood again?

Can you make a rule Scc? That after the morons that volunteer for this are screwed over they aren't allowed to come on here and say even though they did all this work they still got dumped somewhere shitty. So all you volunteers deserve what you get.

The same stupid people will sign up for this detail just to get out from where they are now. When they get disbanded, the same people will bitch and moan that they were taken advantage by the Dept. The Dept. will take away certain contractual protections from these same people because they volunteered for this detail, and these same people will willingly give it up for the chance to go to this detail. When the Dept. is done with them, they will stick it in their ass. Don't do it unless you know what is going to happen to you when they disband the unit.

I have the scoop.

It's a subliminally worded farce that'll once again attract the Hair Gels.

Easily mistaken for "Force Field", the department's invitation to join this latest, greatest incarnation of an "elite" team will appeal to those coppers barely past puberty.

Pimply-faced and highly impressionable, these superstars-in-the-rough will be happy to shell out whatever amount of cash is necessary to purchase the 'required' G8 & NATO gear as is requisite for this detail. Uneducated to the Department's overall real motives, Hair Gels make the perfect sacrificial lambs.

If anyone has learned anything about this city and department, please let it be that your well being, safety and overall existence does not matter to those making the policies they dictate to us. You are a tool to be used and discarded at the whim of an incompetent employer for an ungrateful city. You are little more than a whore that will be pimped-out by the Brassholes in their effort to cling to their own little bubble of prominence. And you'll likely be spending your own hard-earned cash for the pleasure.

Now is the time to send the department a message. No one should volunteer for this shit regardless of what banana they dangle in front of you. Don't, not even for a second, believe them when they tell you that you'll be able to return to your unit of assignment after this detail is over. Tell them to shove their post-detail "Superbid" up their collective ass.

THEY NEED US MORE THAN WE NEED THEM, AND THEIR DESPERATION IS APPARENT AS ALL HELL IN THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF THIS 11TH HOUR PLAY FOR BODIES TO BE SACRIFICED COME THE MONTH OF MAY. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SHIT, PEOPLE!

MAKE THEM FILL THIS BULLSHIT DETAIL BY REVERSE SENIORITY.

If the Department does form this unit and people volunteer, please remember that when the Department disbanded TRU and MSF it did not treat those officers well. Just be prepared of what could happen. If you live north, prepared to work south. If you like where you are now, I wouldn't recommend leaving. The seniority to get into 015 on the Aug 2011 bid was over 11 years. I'd bet you'd land in 004, 005 or 006 unless you've got over a decade of service.

No, your not assigned anywhere. You get trained and then keep your regular job. You can work bt 323 then some protest breaks out. You go from being Bt 323 to immobilize downtown for your tour. After the protest is done the thanks you will get is going right back to bt 323. Also, you have to pay for about 1000 dollars worth of gear. Your not in a unit, your not out of homan square and your not leaving your current district. the only thing your doing is paying 1000 dollars for the city to tell you to go where ever when ever they want you for protests and mass arrest situations. Also, a key thing that the order states is that officers must be willing to CHANGE FURLOUGHS AT ANYTIME. So what exactly is the perk??? Thats right, nothing. still working the beat car, still working that tac team, and still answering jobs in 003, 005 or what ever hole you got dumped too after msf broke up. However, im sure all the gels from tru and msf will run to be in this unit... just so they can say they are in a unit...even though they arent, they still work midnights in the duece. anyone who joins this crap is a complete company yes man. there is ZERO perks to this. They want you to work as a beat officer but also do with you what ever they want to whenever they want to.. They are pretty much making you a beat copper and taking away union protections like cancelling your days off, furlough changes etc. You will be a beat officer without union protection when it comes to that stuff because it is part of your commitment to "the unit" if you do it, good luck.. dont cry when everything gets f'd up on your days off and furlough.

Read the order on this.....what a joke.
Be part of a call up unit and voluntarily change your furlo if need be.
Spend $800 on equipment
No sustained CR 's
Need letter of recommendation
Must pass power test and be enrolled in city's wellness plan.
Then get put on a list based on seniority.
Listen up people in my 22 yrs on this job I've seen more shit happen in the past month all for the worse than I've seen before. Don't fall for this bullshit quasi unit. It's nothing more than an on call response unit, no real team concept, also what about overtime. If you get sent out of your district your supposed to get paid if not based on seniority. This has disaster written all over it.

Read the order carefully and buyer beware. Quite a few contradicting statements in the order.
First and foremost, this is NOT a unit of assignment, this is additional responsibilities in addition to your regular duties, not a dedicated unit. You will not be leaving your current unit of assignment, you would get detailed out on a case by case basis as needed to perform crowd control. So all you people working south thinking you are going to Homan again, forget it, it ain't happening. You won't have to worry about returning to your unit if you get dumped, because you are not leaving your unit, period.
As far as the buying gear goes, not sure what they could want you to buy, but also later in the order it states that if "you lose a piece of department issued gear, you will be required to purchase a replacement piece." So are they giving you the gear, or are they making you buy the gear? Who knows.
Also says in the order that Tact, Gangs, SAT, Gun Teams are already eligible for this assignment. Does that mean that if they don't get enough volunteers all the Tact guys and Area teams will be required to fill in?
A lot of questions and not a lot of answers.
I am pretty confident though that it is not going to be anything like MSF or TRU or SOS, as suggested by some posters in other threads. My guess would be it is going to, once again, be based on the NYPD concept of DCU. Just my guess.

Preckwinkle not backing down on illegal immigrant criminal cases

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle on Thursday refused to consider cooperating with federal requests to hold undocumented immigrants in county jail, calling instead for a task force to look at how to improve the way bail is set in all county criminal cases.

The announcement came days after a federal immigration official wrote her a letter warning that the county undermines public safety by not keeping suspected illegal immigrants in custody while agents decide whether to deport them.

[...]

County commissioners voted in September to stop honoring requests from federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to detain suspects who were in jail on other charges until the agency checked their immigration status. At the time, Preckwinkle said the move was made for financial reasons.

Let's be real. You don't know who these people are, where these people are or how many of them are here. So if you live south and work south, and they call you out to North Ave. beach, you have to drive your ass up there? And vice/versa if you're working north and have to drive to Englewood?

Even if you're stuck in a shit district, at least you know what you're doing every day.

Any A-hole who signs on for this is a mush, plain and simple.

Now is the time to stick together. One for all and all for one--remember that concept.

DON'T VOLUNTEER! You see what they did to the captains--flat-out lied to them. Don't think they won't do the same to you.

I don't give a shit WHAT they promise you, it is NOT WORTH IT! They'll probably say something like that by volunteering for this you will stand a better chance of getting promoted/reassigned by mgt. percentage or some kind of crap.

If anyone believes a single shitball that comes out of 9.5 or McDrunk's mouth, you deserve what you get. If you volunteer you should be shunned by your peers.

PLEASE...PLEASE....PLEASE understand. This is a part of the City's way to break up our organized labor. Understand that the City is after our contract and divide us. Any unit were you need to sign up for a wellness plan or purchase equipment is an attempt to get around the contract.

We have first issue in our contract where the City has to purchase the equipment for you.

We already have a wellness plan with the FOP.

THE CITY STARTED THERE OWN WELLNESS PLAN, BUT HERE IS THE CATCH. If you do not meet there standard, they can raise your insurance $50 a period. That means if you volunteer, they will have you get a physical by a City doctor. Say your blood pressure or your cholestoral is a little high, your insurance is increased $50 a period ($600 dollars a year). Also if you sign up for this, your spouse has to be a part of it even if she is not a police officer. If she does not pass it would now be ($1200 for the year increase). You will then be placed in group who has to check in and give updates how you are taking care of yourself or your spouse to solve your medical issues.

This is a way for the City to get into your personal life. This is a contract year, DO NOT sign up for this. If the contract is not settled and goes to an arbitraitor and he sees officers doing this, he may rule for the City.

THE CITY HAS NO RIGHT TO INTERFERE WITH YOUR LIFE AND YOUR SPOUSES OR FUTURE SPOUSES.

I checked into this. THe FOP already has this if you want to join with no consequences. The FOP has this and brought it to the City's attention before and the City said no. The City then proposed it with the penalties and that your spouse has to do it.

The FOP told the City if an officer passes in good health the officer's insurance should be reduced each month. The City said, no.

DO NOT GIVE UP YOUR CONTRACTURAL RIGHTS TO JOIN AN OUTSIDE UNIT. Remember the City can disband that unit and now you have agreed to be in their wellness plan and can not get out because you agreed while in an outside unit.

AND TO ALL THE FUTURE POST.. I AM IN GOOD HEALTH AND NOT AFFRAID OF A PHYSICAl. This is strictly a contract issue.

1/13/2012 11:37:00 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

DON'T SIGN UP FOR THIS. Why would you have to join the City's Wellness Group to be in a unit or pay for equipment. We have insurance and the City has to pay for first issue equipment. This doesn't sound right. These items should be dicussed in our contract, correct. This sounds like the Department or City is circumventing our contract.

I learned a valuable lesson about volunteering many years ago when I was in Army boot camp. On a Friday afternoon as our training was winding down for the day our drill instructor asked for volunteers for a "special detail". He then asked how many of us knew how to drive a truck. I raised my hand, along with a handful of others, and we were all selected and told to get in the back of a deuce and a half. We were then driven to the officers recreation area and were assigned to clean up their gym, locker rooms and sauna area which included picking up used jock straps. I kid you not. From that moment on I never volunteered for anything ever again. And that my friends, is your lesson for today.

Everyone is entittled to their opinion. If you hold a grudge toward any special unit then don't sign up for it. However, there are going to be some officers who want it and they will be subject to its benefits and consequences. I don't have anything against an officer who wants to try something different.

Here's the deal. The city got over $50 million for the G8/NATO summit. They don't want to drop one red cent on equipment OR training for the police officers they must assign to this National Special Security Event.

They know that EVERY other city that has hosted this has PURCHASED THE NECESSARY RIOT EQUIPMENT for their respective departments. They want to sucker officers into purchasing the first issue of gear instead of purchasing and issuing this necessary equipment.

When given a proper riot helmet, they declined to purchase saying that our blue department DOT helmets are fine. They are not, as they are not designed to be used for crowd control. One of the exempts stated that the officers should use their uniform allowance to purchase the gear. As if it was the officers' idea to hold this event here.

They are skimping in training (only free FEMA training to cover themselves on liability) and refuse to use that $50+ million for the gear, training and overtime it was meant to be used for.

They instead want the officers to purchase the gear and businesses to come up with millions to cover the costs so that they, the political elite, can say that they hosted this giant event.

Now anyone who signs up for that unit should know that they have been suckered by the department and pissed their money away needlessly. You've been warned.

I got the scoop from someone in the know. The department crunched some numbers and is now realizing that even with the tact teams, Area Sat teams and other misc teams there WILL NOT be enough "tier 1" officers available to handle the downtown crowds. The Chief of Patrol found out that most of the district officers trained with the shields DO NOT have dept issued bdu's and turtle gear and therefore can not be used on the front lines. The Chief (EW) responded "then make them buy it" to which he was told it would be 1st issue and the Dept would have to buy it. They then crunched THOSE numbers and realized they didn't want to spend that kind of money for what would turn out to be a "one time use, single event"
After putting their heads together they came up with this great MFF idea. Here's what it comes down to...get the officer to spend the $800, give them a cool title (MFF Officer) and use them ONE WEEK and forget about them.
Chief EW and DC Stevie G both know there are enough "Tier 1" officers trained for almost all other events EXCEPT G8.
So go ahead guys, spend $800 each that the dept won't spend for a 1-time use event.
When it happens, and it will, don't say you weren't warned.

Huge brawl at the beach, call out the MFF! If they are lucky it will take 2 hours to get there, by the time they contact the districts, get the officers off the street, who are available and not on jobs, etc, etc, etc.....
Just another order Gene signed off on that is moronic...
Once about three people sign up for this, the idiots at top will offer a choice spot to anyone who volunteers and stays for a set amount of time. Of course they will never follow thru on it, but just the carrot will be enough to get people to sign on the dotted line.

MFF is NOT an assignment; it is a list of patrolman (9161) and sergeants (9171) who volunteer to be called up in the event of a crowd control matter. They will be returned to their unit of assignment or detail after the event. Volunteers will be required to buy all of their own equipment which is appx $800, (More likely nearer to $1000). In addition, officers who volunteer would be required to forgo their furlough if necessary as well as change watches. Keep in mind that there already are no furloughs during the G8/Nato, so although it sounds like it’s to accommodate the Summits or some other preplanned event, it appears to be indicative they want you to readily give up your furloughs so they can pull you at their whim and deploy you to some event they can't staff because of the extreme personnel shortages. After you VOLUNTEER to change your furlough, you will not be compensated for the change and you then will get the next available furlough. So, you give up your 4B or 10A and end up with some crap furlough, and please don't think you finally get that summer furlough or Christmas. It's their pick not yours. By volunteering, you will give up your right to your seniority picked furlough, you will accept the financial responsibility of buying and maintaining the costly equipment and relieve the City of the obligation to purchase it, and you may be required to work shit hours at the Departments demand without any duty-hour change compensation (2-hr adjustment rule). There is absolutely no benefit to the volunteers outside of being taken out of your district for a day or two of training, and another day or three to be sent down to some bullshiit occupy this or that, anti-police or antichrist protest. You will stand on your feet for hours at a time with a bunch of bosses who don’t have the balls to act without the Mayor’s prior political analysis and permission. You will not get a lunch (Again, no compensation) and as it states, you will be forced into the City’s wellness program, which basically says that you and your family will have to meet or exceed a City Doctor’s health plan for you or you will have to pay higher health care costs in your payroll deductions. There is no District change option like when they disbanded Tru and MSF, so anyone hoping to get back someplace closer to home… it’s not that kind of assignment, this is only a call up list of officers and sergeants who volunteer to give up their contractual rights, to give up additional compensation and volunteer to joining the wellness program that the City is trying to force us all in to so they can raise your health care contributions with negotiating for it in the contract. IT A SHAM FOLKS. DON’T put yourself on the list. If you do, even if they don’t call you up, you will be forced to buy all of the equipment and be forced into the wellness program with no option of getting out of it. DON’T DO IT- THERE IS NO BENEFIT!

The order / application just came out and you need to take a power test and purchase $ 800.00 in equipment..... Here's what I see happening is the city will take everyone that applies no matter how many , so they can buy all their own gear , then once they have the gear, kick them out of the MFF... Solves the problem of department purchasing the gear!!! DO NOT APPLY !!! The ThE City Burn!!!!

Per the Supt. at today's Comstead meeting the 7th and 11th Districts are responsible for 25 % of the crime. They were haveing a meeting later to institute some type of strategy.
Wysinger challenged the District Commanders to grow some chohonas and make the beat cars bring in activity, otherwise they will be replaced. He also said that the G8 Nato summit will use up all of our resources and that we are already up 9 murders from last year. Supt. was NOT happy with Wysinger's remarks.

Everyone is entittled to their opinion. If you hold a grudge toward any special unit then don't sign up for it. However, there are going to be some officers who want it and they will be subject to its benefits and consequences. I don't have anything against an officer who wants to try something different.

I agree if the volunteer doesn't have to wave contractual protection. Since every detail this department offers is the city's way of getting around the contract, I would have to say any officer who volunteers for this unit is nothing more then a big deuche bag.

I am an old guy, nearing the end. Those units and jobs are for you guys, the young go-getters, if you crave more action and that type of assignment, go for it.

Just be careful, stay safe and don't be surprised if the Department wants to shove a pipe up your bum later. Otherwise it is good experience, you get to meet some good people, learn to know the difference between good coppers and the other kind.

Best of luck.

"Bring In Activity" is McCarthy-Speak for "we don't have an answer to the problem of assholes shooting & killing other assholes so we'll keep beating the shit out of the copper pushing the beat car like it's all his fault."

Exactly. By volunteering for these special units, you basically let the city off the hook from hiring the necessary manpower that has become dangerously low. We have just lost another 150 officers and more will be leaving in the coming months with no replacements. Get the numbers down or you'll be replaced.

Again with the MSF and TRU being elite units. I sincerely hope this is some guy busting our balls who comments about being part of this elite unit.

I have been a detective for 10 years and not ONCE did any me,ber of this elite unit come to a crime scene or come to the area with a violent offender or inquire about a murder or agg batt.

I don't know the team breakdown but who wa covering for you hard chargers when 6 cars. Yes 6 cars were congregated at a famous coffee stop at 2200 hours waiting out your tour.

Was that the TRU creed? No hard charging after ten. The rhino bar awaits where we can regale fair maiden with our stories of crime fighting.

You douche bags didn't invent police work. You didn't invent the concept of a unit. There was SOG and other squads that were around while you were still jerking off to your mother' glamour magazine. No you are not master of your domain.

So if you want to sign up to another elite unit go ahead. Nobody gives a shit. Just keep the we are here to save the world shit to yourself.

What are Joe Birds qualifications to run for public office? Just because he's a cop means were supposed to blindly back him? Again to the poster that bitched about FOP not endorsing him, list all the reasons why they should instead of bitching about the fact that they didn't.

Anyone else tired of these coppers running for office so they can bail on this shit department? Why should they be endorsed? If Joe Bird had this higher calling why didn't he involve himself in public service BEFORE he took became a police officer and took that dangerous position in IAD?

well, your right about everything you said. At least I can say that in my career I was the police. You needed something done it got done. 2000 - 2005 there were plenty of cameras everywhere. Say what you want but yes, been there done that. MSF, TRU what ever "elite" unit were in you would know the first thing about what getting the job done and taking as*hole off the street at ANY cost. I came out of it fine, didn't get indicted or suspended... but had a GREAT time. Yeah, you right... dude was dirty then he came with us and in went his door.. then after everything else was found dude got a little more dirty and went to prison for a really long time... that happened every single night multiple times and entire blocks and districts went to sleep after a weekend of sos in there. Call us joey tough guys or what ever you want... Im pretty sure its pure jealousy on your part since everyone is calling msf and tru a bunch of jokes... Your jealous because you never got to be the police in your lifetime. Your pissed because you go to the "elite" units now and you get drinkers, pissers, a couple rocks or blows, impounds and contact cards... thats your job...its pretty pathetic and you know it is. If you think thats police work then it just goes to show how naive you are. You have no clue of the type of coppers that were in sos. you are tough talking so much shit anonymously on a blog. But, its always good when you can talk so much sh*t about a bunch of good coppers anonymously on a blog but you work among former 153 guys in your current district and you smile and talk with them everyday... hmmmm, kind of sound like a coward to me. I admit, what was done was un orthodox but if you want dude in prison then youve got to do what youve got to do. times have changed and you cant do that anymore. Ive got a feeling if everything magically went back to the way they were you would have no clue what to do and would sh*t your pants as soon as the doors on the block started getting blown in. And yes, all six guys in the house had guns as they ran out the back door. Oh, by the way... I dont drink and dont go up to western ave anymore. Maybe when you get some time on the job you will learn not to talk shit to coppers who have actually done something with their career.. not just revenue generators and one bag superstars. you really have no clue do you???
