The Last Days of 021
Of all the closings, this one seemed to make the most sense. You may disagree, but it's how we felt, having spent quite a bit of time south in our careers. This distribution of manpower seems a bit off though:
- 021st District Officers have the option of submitting a PAR form to request a transfer to the 001st ( 17 bid positions and 5 management positions available ) or the 009th District ( 15 bid positions and 4 management positions available ). Officers who do not submit a PAR form requesting a transfer will be assigned to the 002nd District.
What's the full complement of officers assigned to 021? Sergeants and lieutenants, too? Seems like the Deuce is about to get a bit crowded even though the project buildings are all vacant lots now.
Are we going to see some openings up for bid soon? Something we haven't seen in seven or eight months?

Sure we'll see a bid. Your choices are 007, 011, 003, 004, 005. Meanwhile savages from the westside will continue to pillage, rape, and plunder the residents of 016. There are 204 officers assigned to 016 divided among 3 watches. Take away the inside personnel and how many officers are actually patrolling trying to prevent crime as opposed to chasing jobs? Maybe 60 per watch tops. In addition 016 has the largest square mileage of all the districts. Plus, I'm sure the avg. age of officers in 016 is pretty high meaning they have the potential to have quite a few retirees. Combine that with the fact that there are no openings....but hey, the fucking city has no problems getting us our property tax bills on time.
City's goal:
Close a few districts, and back fill the districts that have manpower issues!
Once you have 2 man cars on 1st and 3rd watch there is no need to hire any new P.O.'s because there is no where to put them.
They will make beat officer cover more ground before they hire P.O.'s

Worked a safe city night there. What a joke. The revrends must of asked for police, but there wasn't any need for a whole team of cars there. Maybe it was busy 20 years ago. But obviously it's not needed anymore.

I bidded to 021 several years ago after working in 003, 006, 007, and 009. I thought I would be able to retired in a "peaceful area" but the powers that be changed all that. Its not fair! I know alot of people, including this blog, think its long over due but you have to remember that we made alot on bonds with people in the area, we are not happy campers in 021. Dont expect a bunch of disgrunted officers to be proactive after getting kicked out of our home!

I understand if you don't put in a PAR Form they are sending you to 002. My question is; where are they sending you if you put in a PAR Form but don't make the bid to 001 or 009?
Where are they going to put all the additional officers who are going to two? Make additional beats? Of course there has to be a expanding of the beats unless they are going to add 211a, 212a 221a,31a etc. Where are you going to park the additional squads along with the po's vehicles as well as the influx of det's who are coming in? Parking is already at a premium because of the court personal who are assigned there, sheriffs deputy's, atty, civilians etc. Are they gonna give up that helipad for parking and tear down the fence? The det space upstairs already has been gutted with everyone sitting at tables with computers. Looks like a damm telemarketing setup. Who the fuck thought of this shit and I tell you one thing, when the idiots at 35th are gone and the new dude is instilled he's going to spend all his time changing this shit back the way it was.
They should have all the officers in 21 bid citywide. The city closed the dist and its not the officers fault they have to leave. Its a wonder people are frustrated and pissed off about this dept and how they do the dum shit they do.
Bid to the Deuce all quiet there. 009 is in a rap all summer long and in 001 you work 99 and process retail theft by yourself the whole tour.

Many of people will, and probably already have, chimed in about what an a$$hole you sound like. I'm sure they are from the "everyone is special" generation, you know the ones, they ALL got trophies when they played sports. Not the first place kid, all of the kids, so they all could be told they were special too.

Make the trunk of your car your locker. The roaches in 002 are so big they have lockers. As far as the parking issue, I suggest you get a dune buggy for the potholes in 002, or see if you can buy a NASA space buggy for the craters in the lot.

Not if 021 is being taken over by these districts. China Town & west of the highway is going to 009. 31st st/north is going to 001. Everything else is 002.
021 back in the day was a great place to work, a lot of good coppers and bosses. The makeup of the races and nationalities that lived in the district made it a very interesting place to work. It, and the people that worked there will be missed.

I heard from Supt. McCarthy's own mouth in front of 4 alderman, several FOP Board Members, an FOP Field Rep and numerous police officers and citizens that ALL of the 019 personnel will be transferring to the police station at 850 W Addison St. for the merge between districts 019 & 023.
Numerous times Supt. McCarthy repeated the number.

A "crafty" veteran may not be aware of them and just might trip and fall into one, causing a serious injury resulting in a long stint on IOD and/or civil litigation against the Shitty of Chicago for failure to maintain a safe work environment. Also, please be prepared to arrive at work at least 45 minutes before your start time. There isn't adequate parking available even when using the heliport area and the adventure you'll go through trying to find a parking spot will bring you to your next obstacle. Please be aware you will be changing in the lot because there aren't any lockers available. Hope you have a large trunk or SUV so you can stow all your gear in it. Once you've successfully completed this circus the Watch Comma...er, Station Supervisor will gladly have you drop a slip for an hour on the front because you were late, even though you were 45 minutes early, LOL!

Will the same thing happen to 019? Of course it will! The officers from 019 will get to bid to 023 (probably about 20 positions). The vast majority of the officers about 90% will be shipped down to the south or west sides. The ones with enough time will just retire and not deal with the bullshit any more.
That is exactly what the city wants. They want to make this job difficult as it is so officers retire.

Notice how the city outright lied to the citizens in the communities and the officers. When the stations were closed down the city said "the officers will all be transferred over to the next closest district and the community will not lose manpower". Now a few months later the vast majority of the officers are transferred to "a high crime district". When the fuck is the mayor and city going to get it? By placing police officers in high crime districts and leaving the good/decent parts of the city short means you are just transferring crime from the shitty neighborhoods to the good ones.

Honestly, you think you are going to see any of these kind of people bid to 009 ?????? Keep on dreaming or drinking whatever gives you visions. Most of that district consists of mega dog asses so you are not going to see them sign up for more work. They will be happy to be absorbed into 002.
Why aren't bid spots openned in 002 if that's where they plan on sending the majority of the officers? I'm sure plenty of officers would rather be a bid officer in 002 than a management officer in 002. I see this as having a large pool of management officers to choose from when they're needed in 07,05,03,06 etc. FOP should be all over this.

If that's your thing then it quite apparent that you aren't much of a supervisor. Hair? Seriously? Is this your form of COMPSTAT being waged against your officers? Zero tolerance! After the bids are filled, overflow goes into 002, up to their limit, say 20-30...then everyone & anyone left would be signed up for G8 Turtle Duty. Same for 019, they'll be bidding for 018/024 only less with 10 openings. Runoff goes to 025 and G8 Turtles. Its all part of staffing for the Spring/Summer riots. But being assigned by Mgmt. is better, you'll eventually get to bid out when openings become available.

Two Chicago police officers were arrested on federal theft charges after they allegedly stole $5,200 from a man they believed was a drug courier but who in fact was secretly cooperating with federal authorities.
According to the charges unsealed today, federal agents secretly videotaped the theft as Officer Kallatt Mohammed, driving in his personal car, took the cash from the informant last November in the 2700 block of South Vernon Avenue.

There's currently 194 P.O.'s in 021. Don't know how many Sgt's or Lt's will be going to 002. So we're looking at probably around 175 bodies going from 021 to 002 including Sgt's and PO's. I'm sure they're going to create a couple new sectors and extend all the sectors to 5 beat cars because they still have to handle the old 021st district side. How they're going to house all these people, cars, and equipment though is beyond me. I don't think McCarthy and the rest of the exempt geniuses thought about any of that. As usual they crunched numbers and everything looked good on paper. They didn't bother asking any of the peons in the trenches what their thoughts were. They probably never even got off their lazy asses and went down to 002 to look at what the physical situation was there. You're going to have about 500 officers in 002 after the change which would include PO's, Sgt's, and Lt's. The D Unit with more Det's on the way. You have the courts there as well as Motor Maintainence and the area lock up. I guess we're just going to stack cars in the lot, change in our cars, and wait in line to process arrests and drop off prisoners. It's going to be total fucking mayhem in that place. Like everything else lately this is going to turn out to be a disaster. I'd hate to be the time keeper or station supervisor in that place.... LOL.

Plus, I'm sure the avg. age of officers in 016 is pretty high meaning they have the potential to have quite a few retirees. Also from what I've been told their is no new beat maps showing the configuration of beats covering that area. No logistics to put the additional 100 plus po's. and equipment into two. "Hours after firefighters extinguished a blaze at a Far South Side house Saturday morning, officials found the lifeless body of a young boy next to a dog.
"Earlier, crews had rescued a 66-year-old woman from the home, but were unaware of the boy in the attic.
"Relatives identified the boy as Omariontae Tucker, 7. He was found in the crawl space of an unfinished attic in the 10700 block of South Prairie Avenue with the body of a dog next to him, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Kevin MacGregor said. An autopsy Sunday found the boy died of carbon monoxide intoxication from inhalation of smoke and soot and his death was ruled an accident, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
“He was all the way up in the eaves, right along the gutter line near the window,” MacGregor said. “Maybe he was trying to find a way out. It certainly was an unusual position to find the little guy, very unfortunate.”

I know about "trying to find a way out." I was in a fire when I was about this age. All I remember was screaming as a wall of smoke came towards me -- and then, somehow, I was out, up in the building office telling the people there.
I must have gotten through that smoke somehow -- must have taken everything I had. Can't remember.
Now, the grandmother in this case has also since died of smoke inhalation. She was found unresponsive in basement during primary search. (It was her house.)
Fire Commissioner Hoff went out here to look right away, he says that fire was not informed that there was a child in the house until well after the final search had been completed.

The commander of 009 is a decent guy, but nuts, he is an over-worker and always has been. He expects the same from everyone. He surprised me when he stayed the course when Ernie Brown was screwing with him so bad trying to make him quit so he could get one of his merit buds in as the DC. DJ is whacko and a workaholic, but 009 is 007 north now with about 1/3rd of the resources. Summer is going to be a blast!

I learned from the best..Lizik, Fosco, Burger, Black,Zapolsky, Sherwin,Cooper..did I miss any? God the times we had. Yes kids, at one time we all wore leather jackets, Crown hats and boots. Not just in 021..but citywide, we were once the Real Police.

I work up north. Today I had NATO/G8 training, something happened and I'm not quite sure what. Our instructor who seemed pretty good, said some stuff about leadership and direction up above and that the training might be minimal. At about 2 hours through, some sgt came in and acted like an ass. He pointed at the instructor and had him replaced. It was very weird. The training got weird and the instructors seemed awkward. The sgt never came back, but I've seen him in the academy. What ashame that an instructor getsbtreated like that. Truth is, the training seems minimal at best. Another guy asked about our uniforms getting covered in urine and what was going to be done but the instructor was without answers. Very sad.
Farewell 021. You were an awesome place before Cmndr A. Stanley destroyed it. All the great people left when she came. But before that...boy did we have a great time!!! The vast majority of the officers about 90% will be shipped down to the south or west sides. The ones with enough time will just retire and not deal with the bullshit any more.

If you actually read the notice that was posted about the bid post given in 021 to bid either to 009 or 001 its actually worded as opportunity not a bid. That sounds like some sort of a detail not an actual bid. They also include a part where you are not locked in for a year and can bid to other places and watch assignment per the DC of 009 and 001.
The part about the rest of the people getting absorbed into 002, that was just word of the mouth from somebody from 35th to FOP. Nothing really solid. If they really wanted this to be true, why not include 002 as a choice for this so called "bid"??? All this smells like like shitty surprise coming. In reality 002 does not need 150 people to cover 021, max it would be about 80 to 100. Where is the leftover going??? Ask Rahm about that, more crime ridden areas.... Sounds familiar??? it's not. Its MSF/TRU maneuver. For all the people in 019 and 013, brace for a big surprise.......

At about 2 hours through, some sgt came in and acted like an ass. He pointed at the instructor and had him replaced. It was very weird. The training got weird and the instructors seemed awkward. The sgt never came back, but I've seen him in the academy. What ashame that an instructor getsbtreated like that. Truth is, the training seems minimal at best. Another guy asked about our uniforms getting covered in urine and what was going to be done but the instructor was without answers. Very sad.

I was in the class and agree it was very awkward. The sgt got his panties in a bunch and stormed out. He never returned to class. I guess riot training is too hard for the adminsitrative sgt. Everyone else stayed for the class. That Greek entitlement makes you special.

Here's my bet on the 019/023 merger. Everyone will be combined giving the new district about 400 officers and 6 tact teams...until after the G8/Nato bullshit. The either 90 day summer details will begin (for June, July, August), or a bid will open telling "x" number of officer will have to move because the manpower total is being adjusted based on the "new" crime rate and district size and population. None of this is a lie. All went to the new place. Neither of the 2 goofs said for how long though. Just like Rahm put a 1,000 more cops "on the street". We all see how that was done. Prepare for some of the same.

I agree 100%. But ... isn't that what we now have Inspectors for? If our men and women are leaving roll calls looking like slobs (and therein lies the problem), then the Inspectors should be writing them up. And then of course, the Inspectors will get slammed on the blog. Coppers always want it both ways.

I am hearing that someone is planning photos of present and former officers assigned to 021 before the station closes? Any more info out there? I worked there in the late '60s when there was a lot of activity and then came back in the late '70s. Lots of good memories, lots of good police officers.
