Vote on Ethics?

  • Gov. Pat Quinn announced Sunday a proposed amendment that would allow Illinois voters to enact ethics laws through ballot referendums.

The proposed amendment, sponsored by Sen. Annazette Collins (D-Chicago), would allow voters to propose ethics reforms for all state-held offices in the three branches, as well as in local governments and school districts.

Well, since Illinois voters have sat through three of the last 6 governors going to prison for assorted offenses, we imagine they wouldn't be the most observant of people to cast judgement on ethics laws.

Now, if it were a Board of SCC readers making the ethical judgements, we'd be more inclined to support the effort.

This is almost laughable. Politicians creating ethics laws? No fucking way. With jelly fish like Quinn and conniving pricks like the Racoon in power we don't stand a chance. The only ethics these weasels care about is YOURS. Don't waste our time with this worthless bullshit.

Political Ethics is easy.

1. Follow the laws (All of 'em. Not just the ones you like.

2. If you're doing something for someone related to you by blood or marriage, it's unethical.

3. If you're doing something for someone because they gave/will give to your political campaign or some other, under-the-table funding, it's unethical.

4. If you (or a blood or marriage relative) stand to gain something like future employment, for example, it's unethical.

Did I leave anything out? I think I hit on the big ones.

How about we vote on something really beneficial?

Term limits.

Please let this pass quickly so I can begin to circulate petitions to recal everyone who represents the 26th Ward in Springfield, including the Governor.

Will this also cover Chicago offices? Can we petition to recall the Mayor and alderman?

Ethics. How about...

"No City, County or State Government official, or Police Department management official will make promises of promotion, or reassignment or other job perk to any police union official for backing any plan that said goverment proposes that will affect the rank and file of that department."

Look out in the next contract boys and girls. They don't have to give all raises and senority rights when they can buy off our union officials.

Is this Quinn firing a shot at the Chicago Democratic organization? Maybe Quinn fancies himself to become the next top dog now that Daley is out of the picture and he is giving the boys at City Hall a tease of what he can do to them if they resist.

I don’t predict it will end well for Quinn, because he is a mindless buffoon and couldn’t be elected dogcatcher with the vote fraud of the machine backing him up.

He’ll be the next target of the feds.

CHICAGO WRITES BIG CHECK TO SAF . . . The Second Amendment Foundation received a check for $399,950 recently for recovery of legal fees expended in McDonald v. City of Chicago, the landmark Supreme Court case that struck down the city's ban on handgun ownership. The check, signed by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, is the largest the foundation has ever received, said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb. According to an Examiner.com news report, the funds will be directed into Moore v. Madigan, litigation that is challenging the constitutionality of Illinois state laws that prohibit the carrying of loaded firearms for personal protection.

If the governor can put a referendum to change the state constitution for an ethics bill, can he do the same to change pensions? Just asking.

I think is wa a mistake voting in a young FOP president. He has many more years to go on this job and he will not be fop president forever. He will be bought with promices of being taken care of after fop. He will not be looking at the members best interest. Should have voted in an older, ready to retire president so he would not care what happens to him after fop because he would retire. Hope Mike prove me wrong and gets us a good deal..lol.

the voters ARE observant.. and we keep trying to figure out just HOW some of these people get into office since when talking to the people they are angry because of the people they CLAIM won.. seems they rely on CHICAGO to put people like QUINN in office .. the districts and the way they are drawn to make sure people like MADAGAN get re-elected.. Why do you think so many people have moved OUT of IL?? I do like the rules laid down by Anonymous put forth .. I have to ask JUST WHO will be enforcing these laws?

I am for this law. Allow the citizens to pass ethics laws. The ones passed by the lawmakers themselves don't have any meat to them.

I guess when people see the corruption and the refusal of the courts or powers that be to take a stand, they get frustrated and feel powerless... It's also a lack of taking responsibility for doing their civic duty by the younger generations.

Here's the problem:

Chicago Voter Registration Lowest Since 1942

As of Monday, about 1.28 million voters were registered in the city, board spokesman James Allen said. That’s lower than in 1942, the first year such numbers are recorded in the agency’s records.

It's the primary! they could have endorsed any/all republicans with no backlash. Then, in their endorsements they dont mark the party R or D so you wont see any of these guys on your republican ballot, (unless you live in Park Ridge! or if your voting Obama again). This kind of incompetence is scarey.
FOP did not endorse the judicial candidate they are suing, Yea!

Chicago Called Most Corrupt City In Nation

CHICAGO (CBS) — A former Chicago alderman turned political science professor/corruption fighter has found that Chicago is the most corrupt city in the country.

He cites data from the U.S. Department of Justice to prove his case. And, he says, Illinois is third-most corrupt state in the country.

University of Illinois professor Dick Simpson estimates the cost of corruption at $500 million.

Ethics law...how much will that cost?
Do we really believe our elected officials care about ethics and our well being?

The trouble with what comes up for referendum is that it will have to meet the Madigan-Cullerton litmus test.
How will it effect their interests and private sources of income.
But.....
The 1st Referendum : Reconvene the Illinois Constitutional Congress (Con-Con) and rewrite the Pension Code.

Yes, but Rahm Emanuel is a vindictive little man.

Days after writing this check he introduced the idea of a $65.00 PER GUN registration fee.
