G-Mac Spoke to Who?
- The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is exploiting recent criticism of the New York Police Department's surveillance of a Muslim students group and some mosques to acquire legitimacy and intimidate police departments to promise not to investigate Islamic groups.
CAIR has been described as a front for Hamas by federal law enforcement.
After a meeting Tuesday, CAIR's Chicago chapter announced that Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy will speak Saturday night at CAIR-Chicago's annual fundraising banquet. In their meeting, McCarthy reportedly said surveillance by Chicago police would not be used in intelligence gathering as it was in New York.
A known terror-supporting organization having the superintendent speak at a fund raising dinner that honors an imam mentioned as a top fundraiser for a foundation convicted in court of raising money for terrorism and terror related organizations?
We guess we shouldn't be surprised after G-Mac opened his tenure in Chicago preaching to the Phleger crowd. We're sure he'll be telling the CAIR people they're just victims of the government, too.

Sorry O/T but I need to vent! Anyone else feel like they are working a dead end job with no room for advancement? It's going on 5 years since they promoted detectives and at least 3 1/2 years since promoting sergeants. I blame the mayor and ever gold star who allows this bull shit to happen! It's about time you stood up for the workers---- you know the back bone of the department. I knew when I started this job many years ago that it was a thankless job. I expected that from the public but never did I expect it from our mayor and our bosses. There is no where to go anymore, can't get promoted and you can't bid to a different district because there is never any openings anymore unless it's in a shit district. Well Ive done my time pushing a beat car in a shit district and I'm starting to get old, well you know what I'm getting at, it's time for me to move to a retirement district before I drop dead of a heart attack wrestling around with these young bucks in the hood! I just want to know where's our piece of the pie? Venting over---- thanks

Let's make it simple. Districts A, B, C and D each have 20 officers, total of 80, and each district covers four square miles of land, sixteen square miles total between the four districts . To save money and add more police, according to Rahm and G-Rahm, districts will close. District A is closed by G-Rahm who says that District B, C and D will now absorb equal parts of District A. Still 16 Square miles to cover. Now G-Rahm says the 20 0fficers will be divided up to the three remaining Districts to add more police to the street. District B gets seven officers, C gets seven, D gets six. So, twenty officers are now added to the sixty officers already in the three districts covering 16 square miles. Total ammount of officers covering the same 16 square miles: 80. How is this adding more police to the street? It's a con so the city can say "well District B used to have 20 policemen, now they have 27. We gave them more." Sounds great in a soundbite. Never mention that the 7 extra officers are just covering the same ammount of land that they were previously. Smoke and mirrors from G-Rahm. Simple math, it's a beautiful thing.

It truly is rough times on the CPD. The back bone of this department that keeps the citizens of Chicago safe are your everyday patrol officer and good detectives that assist these officers. A good boss might be able to get more out of the back bone than a bad boss. But the everyday working officer or detective has been beaten down for so long that many of them now only think of the 1st & 16th. Being a Sgt I don't blame them because I remember where I came from. I hope this train wreck of the CPD and the City of Chicago happens soon and fast. A slow death is a terrible experience!!!!!

You left out the fact that they are not saving any money by closing the building.....because they are not closing the buildings.
The same officers have to travel much further to do their job making them less efficient. It is a mess, was not implemented correctly and actually cost the City (taxpayers) millions. All of this makes the citizens LESS safe. Nice job Mr. Mayor.

Ask the question, people. HOW does this save fifteen million? It does not cost fifteen million to heat the 22st district station. The 019th station isn't closing; the building is still being used by detectives, and, as of today, TWICE AS MANY detectives will be using the facility.
The same amount of cars, gas, paper, phone usage, food for prisoners, etc., will be used. MAYBE an additional ten officers will hit the street as the result of a district closing, so the 'consolidation' is netting virtually no increase in officers on the street. This chaos has resulted in a bunch of retirements, so the so-called increase in boots on the street will actually be in the negative numbers.
There is NO cost savings here and the people have lost their neighborhood access to police services such as accident reports, neighborhood relations officers, and even the use of the meeting rooms for civic purposes. Why are the mayor and the superintendent LYING TO THE CITIZENS?

What the nypd did was great...i think Chicago can learn something from them and hopefully implement the same kind of ideas here but i guess not cause of our mayor and superintendent. this is all political bull@hit. Just to add to the post by lil George at 3:08am... The desk and lockups at the old 019 will have to be manned, as they will still be taking prisoners there. So the three people per watch that were on the desk will still be on the desk, plus the two male lockup guys, and the one female lockup woman (they have two female civilians there ) will still be there, plus, you have to have someone to supervise, so a sgt. will be there too. So, if you don't count the civilians, that comes out to 6 p.o.'s and 1 sgt per watch. 18 p.o.'s and 3 supvs. It doesn't look like an additional 20 people on the street to me.

NYPD does have a very good, wide ranging intel section. They have done a lot of good work in counter-terrorism and have saved many lives and prvented many incidents.
I am told here in Chicago, the mayors office gutted the intel secion, it probably has only a handful of men and just does paperwork.
With one of the largest muslim popuations within a few hours drive, it only takes one crazy to set things off, but at least you saved money.
