I think they're underestimating the wily veterans on days.
I predict a major uptick in medical and IOD'S leading up to G8/NATO . Once deployed the numbers will then skyrocket.
Who's their backup Tier2???

New auto theft unit starting up, but heard the sgt. running it is waaaaaay pissed after bosses (Byrne or Andrews) told him the det's had to wear ties. Makes sense to go into scrapyards and crawl through garages in a suit...WTF? Heard he basically told them he'll run the unit the way he wants. Wonder how long he will last. Standing up for your troops is usually rewarded by a dump. He might want to reconsider being so vocal about things.
who cares about that stupid training by a bunch of lazy officers who think they know it all. send those 3rd watch officers to that g-8 they need the experience.

Off-topic question from an old retired sgt --
I understand that CFD personnel (well, at least, firefighters) are being advised to purchase Kevlar vests for G8/NATO.
Having been out of the loop for awhile, when asked by a firefighter, I wasn't sure where the police recommend purchasing nowadays.

Sorry boys but also consider the 200-250 people about to retire on 15 March then another 200 on
15 April and lastly about 300 more on 15 May. Do the math and you will see that we are going to lose possibly 600-700 Police Officers. Now what RAHM?? There are no more units to break apart and say we put more Police on the street. Our manpower is very close to 6000. Don't believe the bullshit totals they are putting to the media.
The new and improved gas masks, nobody is getting them now. They said they calculated wrong. Wtf
time to stock up on the geritol--- bad knees, backs, and attitudes--- the city knows that the salty dogs populating the 2nd watch will just sit there and watch the show--- no hands on means no beefs and problems--- the old guys on days figured out a long time ago what all you younguns should realize--- you step on your pee pee and you are a castaway like a leper--- the department does not have your back and will stick it up your bum the first chance they get....
This department is completely insane.

I really question the wisdom of sending 2nd Watch people. They're salty dogs who are ready to retire and just don't give a f*ck..they've "been there and done that" (Bulls riots).. so you think they really want to risk getting hurt before they pull the pin? What will stop them to go on the medical till this mayhem is over with? These are guys 50+ all mostly on the 2nd watch...Yeah, but what do I know.

I don't think the "geniuses" in charge realize how many old timers will simply opt out of this G8 fiasco by going on IOD or medical in advance. The ones that do get deployed will drop like flies from the rigors a 12-14 hour day of riot control puts on a 50 plus year old body. What exactly are these idiots thinking?
This G8 is a young mans game and should be staffed by younger , less broken down, officers.
Do they have an alternate Tier 2??
The loop is going up for grabs with or without you . I would rather see my old ass at the g-8, so you younger officers can protect my family! I wish that you showed a little more respect when talking about us. We did our time ,as you will some day. The way you talk about us is very ignorant. You act and sound like we are all dogs. Everyone is talking about G8 and Nato and forgot all about the Bulls. Can this city really handle G8/Nato and the Bulls, if they win that is.
Don't worry, I hear the bike teams from 001, 018 and the bike unit are gonna handle it all. Crowd control on bikes, then switch into turtle gear on foot and when needed cutting protesters out of their devices with tools firemen should be using. On top of all this they are getting trained on water entries by the marine unit and shortly after heading out to a farm to learn how to ride the horses. A couple of those guys may be manning drones to do surveillance on the protesters also.
Since it's not likely we will be using oc or tear gas, bring on the water canons
Told last week that our hours are going to be 7am to 7pm, then you have to find your prisoners, get there, review all your arrestees reports, make any changes, find your way back to your personal car, then find your way home. That puts your tour of duty at about 18 hours including travel time. then get 2-3 hrs of sleep (if you are lucky) then turn around and do it all over again. This is for 14 straght days in a row with no days off. please tell me how officers are going to survive? by the end of day 2 on the front lines, most will be running at less than 50%. By day 3, all the front line officers will be useless and exhausted. What a fucking joke.

The FEDs will do what they always do. They will be comfortably away from all the street action close to all the delegates. They will be shielded from the attacks by Black Block, from the thrown shit and wrist rocket missiles by rows of expendable under- equipped under-trained Chicago Cops.
The FEDs will have rest area service tables with food, snacks and beverages provided by the delegate’s hotels and they will be OFF LIMITS to Chicago Cops. The FEDs will have clean bathrooms and regular relief to use them while the Chicago Cops will have to find an alley.
The FEDs will have their own Medics embedded with them and trauma first aid kits. Chicago Cops have to buy their first aid supplies and carry out our wounded to a "safe area" where the Fire Department Paramedics will be.
The FEDs will have state of the art digital communications and every agent will have a secure com-link. The Chicago Cops will have one analog radio for every for cops and every frequency the CPD uses will be jammed by Black Block with stuff they can buy over the counter.
The FEDs will be put up in guarded downtown hotels with all the amenities for food, rest and relaxation. The Chicago Cops may be put up in a tent city, fed from a field kitchen or spend hours trying to commute back and forth through a gauntlet of criminals who advocate burning down the homes of cops.
The FEDs will be shielded from law suits and prosecution while Anita Alvarez intends to make political gains prosecuting cops from this and law firms like Lovey & Lovey and now consulting on how to make to multi-millions from the city and take individual officers life savings.
The FEDs will get fancy Letters of Commendation with official gold seals on them in several languages from all those G8/NATO countries. The Chicago Cops might get a ribbon bar, and God forbid a funeral or two and a hell of a summer with ranks depleted by injuries and no hiring. Rahm would use the funerals as a photo op while he tries to steal the widow’s and orphan’s pension and cut the benefits of the injured.

No need to worry. The City and the Department will be sending out Detention Aides to respond to all the hot spots. Expect the usual delays. The Detention Aides will be traveling from hot spot to hot spot by lockup-keeper chairs under the supervision of a crabby lockup-keeper. The Detention Aides will be armed with green bologna which will be used to repel the dissidents. Detention Aides have been instructed to aim for the face of any dissident.
