- Two brothers were shot dead this afternoon when an argument turned violent in the Brainerd neighborhood on the South Side.
A 20-year-old man and a 26-year-old man were shot to death about 5:05 p.m. in the 9000 block of South Racine Avenue, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien.
Down the block from the shooting, about 40 onlookers stood and walked around at the intersection of 91st Street and Racine Avenue, an area lined with bungalows and other single-family homes.
Why can't CompStat do something about this? We think we're already up to 6 or more murders for May already.

Just for the record the homicide tracker over at the Redeye dot com has the count for April 2012 at 40 which means it's about a 33% increase over the 30 homicides recorded in April 2011.

Thanks dad for your concern,but you could have done a few things to prevent this. Helping with homework, upholding curfew, taking me to Church, provide decent food & clothing, pay the Heat & electric bills, be a good role model for me by getting a job ans kepping it,teaching me to respect authority,Manners, no cursing,marrying my momma,showing me how to play all sports not just basketball, letting me know that a link card is a temporary priveledge not owed to me. Ahh what the hell I could go on and on. But you couldn't be bothered. So know I'm dead at 20 years old. You said someone should pay for this. Look in the mirror Mother Fucker!!!!!!

So many of these areas -- vast tracts of this city -- were once habitable by human beings. It's within living memory.

You mean 57th and South Park Boulevard?
I thought all the craziness was gonna stop after we re-named streets along racial lines to make people happy -- but no. Two wrong-way head-ons in one morning on the "Bishop Ford" (Calumet Expressway).
Gary, Ind. has a library named after Fred Hampton...we have a college named after Malcolm X. Even got his ride in there.
What can you say -- Obama WON the election and there was a riot.
If we can change the "culture" of folks living in the Ghetto areas of the city then maybe the homicide rate would come down. The mentality of so many is to use violence to solve their problems and grudges. If that won't change then nothing will change. A Black profesor at Chicago State Unv. said that "civility" has greatly eroded in America. That is the reason we see people fighting one another even at good old Chuckie Cheeses. Great for kids to see adults trying to kill each other while following Chuckie Cheese to get some free tickets. We are already doomed.

Those 2 were just part of 10 people being shot on Thursday night in a 12 hour span. From noon thursady until the rain came 10 people were shot in Chicago. 5 at one location.
Damn it's a good thing that Tom Skilling was able to "bring the rain" or who knows how much blood would of been shed.
Does anyone know if the CPD has even given Skilling his props for the find job he does curtailling the shootings? How many award & ribbons has he gotten over the years?
