- Mayor Rahm Emanuel was trying to reassure the public that Chicago Police are moving quickly to stop the kind of mob attacks which occurred this past weekend, as well as the spike in gang violence this year.
The mayor said he’s talked with Police Supt. Garry McCarthy about doing what’s necessary to stop the mob attacks downtown, and gang violence wherever it occurs, to make sure the streets are safe.
“We’re going to make sure that – it’s not just Michigan Avenue – I want it in every part of the city. I want to make sure that our kids can again reclaim the streets, and our lawful citizens,” he said. “I will not rest until it happens.”
Thanks Rahm. Are you going to honor our contract while you express this so-called "confidence?"

New City sees 2 double homicides in 2 days

New City saw two double homicides in two days, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
On Sunday, two men, ages 21 and 22, were shot to death in the 700 block of West 50th Place, police said. Two days earlier, two men, ages 22 and 26, were fatally shot in the 5100 block of South May Street, according to officials.
New City has recorded 12 homicides so far this year, according to RedEye data. The South Side community area logged 13 homicides in 2011, RedEye data found.
Meanwhile, Chicago Lawn and Greater Grand Crossing each recorded two homicides in the last week, according to police data.
In Chicago Lawn, a 20-year-old man was shot to death Monday in the 6300 block of South Rockwell Street, police said. Two days earlier, a 16-year-old boy was fatally shot in the 6100 block of South Rockwell Street, according to officials.
In Greater Grand Crossing, a 50-year-old man was fatally shot Sunday in the 7500 block of South Drexel Avenue, police said. One day earlier, a 27-year-old man was shot to death in the 6800 block of South Indiana Avenue, officials said.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were logged in the last week in Chatham, Englewood, Grand Boulevard, Portage Park, Riverdale and Roseland, police data shows.
Meanwhile, a 54-year-old man was stabbed to death Monday in the 1300 block of West Hastings Street on the Near West Side, police said.
Twenty homicides have been recorded so far this month. Forty-four homicides were logged in June 2011, RedEye determined.

There is no room for spin, embellishments, half-truths, and/or outright lies. What is the headcount? It's like asking how much something costs. There is one price. One number. Partially educated 3rd graders know what numbers are. Do you? I know this will take some, gasp, effort, but, I'm sure there's one go getter journalist that can handle this simple task. Right? Refuse to stomach the spin. Sure, the truth will hurt, but until the smoke and mirrors are finally revealed we're stagnant, and sitting fucking ducks.

Was in NYC (manhattan) for the weekend visiting a cousin. Had a great time, I was really surprised how nice it was. Sheeple will always be sheeple but there must have been a few joe citizen sheep dogs out there who could have stepped up to help fight off the wolves. There was just a story out of Canada where an MMA fighter saw two teens getting beat and robbed and stepped in to help and chased down a few of the attackers.
The police cannot be everywhere and we are severly short handed. You citizens need to step up and show these animals you are not easy prey to be taken. Fight back!! Take action to help your fellow citizen!! Just calling 911 isn't enough when a group of thugs are on top of one person. Sorry for the rant. Stay safe brothers. Its just the beginning. Wednesday night (yesterday), about 8pm, as I got off 290 at Western heading North, I came upon about 100 young men blocking traffic on Western Ave. It wasn't clear if it was a "flash mob" or a protest for closing Felony Franks. As an ordinary citizen, I was nervous as the kids let some cars pass and I had 6 youts pressed up against my car. Luckily I was able to drive off and outta there. As I looked back, it seemed there was some sort of "fight" starting in a lot off Western that was spilling into Western. A big group of kids was pushing another group of kids into the street. No visible weapons, but it looked like a game of Red Rover gone bad. I could have called 911, but it sounds like you all have your hands full with pension issues and uniform allowances, so I moved along and was lucky I didn't get shot or my car tipped over. I will just avoid Western from now on to get to 290. Thanks, Rahm and thanks CPD! And thanks SCC for letting us read your blog to know just how bad things really are crime wise. The media is untrustworthy so I read you.

Wednesday night (yesterday), about 8pm, as I got off 290 at Western heading North, I came upon about 100 young men blocking traffic on Western Ave. It wasn't clear if it was a "flash mob" or a protest for closing Felony Franks. As an ordinary citizen, I was nervous as the kids let some cars pass and I had 6 youts pressed up against my car. Luckily I was able to drive off and outta there. As I looked back, it seemed there was some sort of "fight" starting in a lot off Western that was spilling into Western. A big group of kids was pushing another group of kids into the street. No visible weapons, but it looked like a game of Red Rover gone bad. I could have called 911, but it sounds like you all have your hands full with pension issues and uniform allowances, so I moved along and was lucky I didn't get shot or my car tipped over. Today I stopped by the FOP for Gun Safety Day. I came during the rush so I had to stand by the door for a moment as the range guys cleared weapons for the vendors. It was real nice for the FOP to do this. I got some springs and do-hickeys swapped out by Sig and Smith. As I was walking to the door area to load my gun, 2 things happened. Some ghetto broad form maybe narcotics was acting goofy with her gun and then some young guy was challenging the range guy about unloading his gun. He really started pissing the range guy off, saying he must have bed bugs in his pants. The range guy said everyone in the safe area needed to have uloaded guns so that the vendors didn't get shot. This young guy was a real jerk. Thanks again FOP. I felt better about the state of my "roscoes" afterwards.

Here's my problem with all these "flash muggings." Its not like these happened in vacant lots or back alleys. These happened in high pedestrian areas where there HAD to be at least a dozen people around. My question is, did anyone, ANYONE think to step in and help these victims who were getting beat or are the people of this city and the residents of those areas so wrapped in their own little self-serving worlds that they watched this happen or ran and hid?
Sheeple will always be sheeple but there must have been a few joe citizen sheep dogs out there who could have stepped up to help fight off the wolves. There was just a story out of Canada where an MMA fighter saw two teens getting beat and robbed and stepped in to help and chased down a few of the attackers.
The police cannot be everywhere and we are severly short handed. You citizens need to step up and show these animals you are not easy prey to be taken. Fight back!! Take action to help your fellow citizen!! Just calling 911 isn't enough when a group of thugs are on top of one person. Sorry for the rant. Stay safe brothers. Its just the beginning. I understand your frustration because I totally get how the mayor of our city has not equipped the Chicago Police Department with Officers or equipment or strategies to handle the hate crimes perpetrated by black ghetto youth against white/hispanic/asian individuals in the downtown area, on our beaches, and on our public trans.
I'm not sure if you've seen the make-up of those on Mag Mile. It's not like there are bulked up folks shopping. Yes, you are right. It is a total war zone but...you can't expect regular citizens, workers, and tourists to go out there and fight without weapons (against our law to carry concealed), training or armour. I can completely understand your frustration, but, I know this area very very well, having been a patient at NW Memorial for years. The people on the street there aren't there for a fight. These aren't combat-trained individuals. They don't know the ghetto has moved to the Mag Mile. You're talking little hunched-over old ladies with dowager humps from osteoporosis walking their ancient hounds. Families from out of town with small children and/or teenagers in tow with no clue of dangers. Individual females shopping a store or too, one of whom could be a girlfriend of a cop. Baby boomer retired couples in to see the city and maybe a show or two. Add to that all the commuters who work in the myriad of high rises and shopping malls located there, running out for a 20-minute break, alone, to grab lunch or whatever. Plus, many doctors/staff/patients from Northwestern Memorial. Not MMA Fighter material obviously. The ghetto trash coward illiterates see this-they know the pickings are ripe. The answer is not citizens/tourists/patients/professionals fighting. They'd get killed doing so because the wildings are always 14 or more blacks against ONE white/asian/hispanic. Hey Chicago Media.....can one of you (um, not to be picky but ANYONE other than Phil Rogers of NBC) get a final, validated headcount of the Chicago Police Department?
When 2 people claim it's X, and 2,000 others on this blog claim it's Y, well, as a taxpayer I take serious issue with that. The headcount/payroll numbers are finite. It is objective data. There is no room for spin, embellishments, half-truths, and/or outright lies. What is the headcount? It's like asking how much something costs. There is one price. One number. Partially educated 3rd graders know what numbers are. Do you? I know this will take some, gasp, effort, but, I'm sure there's one go getter journalist that can handle this simple task. Right? Refuse to stomach the spin. Sure, the truth will hurt, but until the smoke and mirrors are finally revealed we're stagnant, and sitting fucking ducks.
Some other commenter nailed it.....you really should leverage this crisis into getting more headcount.
Remember, in the budget and in other douments (Civic Fedeartion, ect.) they count our vacation calander days and sick days (with IOD) as not being present for duty, like we are all of sick work all the time compared to the private sector. People get hurt on this job! Do you get a vacation? I get one too! Second, how many people jump fences at night in the dark looking for rappists and burglary suspects? None!

Gigicat, (or anybody else reading this) can you pls clarify your comment about not being able to carry pepper spray. I am a 34 yr old female and I carry it with me everywhere I go. Are you telling me it's illegal to have it spray-ready in case of attack? I've also thought about hiding a knife in my sleeve (strike-ready) in case I am attacked. Is that illegal? I would like to be able to defend myself and I would like clarification on what forms of self defense I can use/carry (legally). My husband has a stun-gun / taser that he purchased off of the internet that he carries to work. I hope thats ok to use. Thanks everyone!

The point is PEOPLE need to step up and show they are not afraid of these animals. The MMA fighter has an obveous advantage physically but the point was he stepped up when he could have easily kept going and looked the other way. These thugs are no more trained fighters than you, they just know these people will not fight back. Bloddy a few of their noses and they will run like the cowards they are. It shows by your response that you fall into the sheeple catigory. You mean to tell me that at least a few citizens couldn't go and help these victims? Are there any men left? If this is the overall attitude of the people then you will forever be victims. Stand up and fight or lie down and roll over.

How would a foot officer handle a sudden flash mob attack? There are limits when a person is suddenly attacked by a group of 10 teens. This is not a simple robbery. They are determined to beat the victim with punches and multiple kicks in the face and body. Where are the police to break up the mobs? To monitor the red line and Michigan Ave? Michigan Ave always had the priority for tourists. Under McCarthy, 007 and 011 has the priority and now we have roving mobs of teens attacking tourists and families on Michigan Ave. Name another city that would tolerate this type of crime? If you've got 8-10 teens hellbent on attacking *you* then you can get your back flat against a wall and face them down without inflicting much damage but if they're attacking someone else and you want to get them off then the way to do it (if you can't just shoot them) is go all-in roaring your head off, swearing like crazy and getting very busy with your little wooden stick.
Now if you come across 8-10 teens beating someone to death in an alley at night you can do it that way but if you do it in public then you'll be the one getting crucified on the evening news because it'll look like evil cop beating on black kids for no reason.
This is made worse by the fact that most of these kids don't look that scary on their own. It's the pack that's dangerous.
It all comes back to the same problem. The media lies about black crime and that makes it impossible to do anything about it. If the media told the truth then when the public saw film on the news of a copper trying to break up a pack attack they'd understand what he was doing.

Our only hope is putting together 6 person volunteer squads of professional African American POs who believe in doing what is right and have them patrol the Loop and Gold Coast to simply confront the mob thugs with necessary force.
So when the City gets sued at least the claim that they got their asses kicked because they were black is somewhat minimized.
Case closed.
