Marine Unit is Everywhere!
That shooting near HQ and guess who's there? They're almost like ... like ... Supermen!
- A 19-year-old gunman was in the wrong place at the wrong time when he allegedly opened fire at a vehicle in traffic several cars ahead of an unmarked police vehicle carrying a police sergeant and two other officers Monday afternoon on the South Side, officials said.
The shooting happened about two blocks from Chicago police headquarters on the South Side where the officers in the police car were headed for an afternoon meeting.
- “I think for catching us off guard, it couldn’t have worked out any better,’’ said [the officer], who is currently assigned to the Marine Unit. “No one got hurt. I’m just glad it worked out.’’
That's a crime fighting strategy McGoofy hasn't tried yet - more afternoon meetings and the police will be exactly where he needs them - especially the Marine Unit. They've got the waterfront covered, now the streets, last thing left? The air. Watch out Helicopter Unit!!!

The Marine unit is almost on par with Leo, almost!

not the last thing left.
you forgot about the sewers.
the below ground level ones.
Maybe they can get a couple of those "Wisconsin Dells Ducks" to patrol on land and sea!!
they can be the SEALS of the CPD
The real question is...why were they out of their BOX, and did they get any contact cards?
If they get the ducks, I'll be the first in line! That is a crime strategy worth implementing.
Those Ducks rides kick ASS!
Just like all Marines are Riflemen, Marine unit personnel are all policemen. Great job guys.
If those marine unit guy didn't have their PFD's available they should be disciplined.
With the O preparing to gut the military perhaps Rahm can get him a call and get a battalion of used amtracks half on the water and half on the North Branch...
FYI. One of the Pilots in the Helo Unit is a former Marine Unit Officer.
Give them credit they are getting positive press which is needed during the contentious contract negotiations hmm wonder what if anything is being negotiated hey mike shields looked at that nice fancy Lincoln we bought you now head out of clouds any updates at all? I know we read the newsletter and Doherty crying about oneill, but is anything being done?
The US Navy just retired the USS Enterprise. Just sayin' there's an aircraft carrier available...

Amazing that they can run down criminals while wearing those fins!
How many other Part 1 felonies and gun pinches does that total for the Marine unit for 2012.
Caught off guard?
Good work guys. Be safe.

Good job guys!
We're they wearing their life jackets?
I can't believe JA from 011 wasn't on the news giving an interview. When he's not busy belittling blue shirts, his ugly mug is talking to the media about shit he has no knowledge of.

Gut, you say?

The marine units got a long way to go before the can match the talents of the terminal commander.
Too bad the Marine Unit, along with some other Units will be downsized. But besides these far and few between stories of heroism conducted by these officers, they pretty much sleep their entire 5 hour tour. There is a need for them, but a small 20 man unit is sufficient along with the fire department. Anyone else hear that CFD is taking over soon?
Dont forget that some even stake out the old Maxwell Street flea market looking for stolen bed pans.Theres a lotta money in metal these days.
Start sending golden boys and girls to Great Lakes Training Center for water born operation, maybe down to Crane too,its close.
