- Oh, to have been the proverbial fly on the wall last month, when Mayor Rahm dropped in at the firehouse at Illinois and Dearborn.
You may not realize this, but the mayor frequently makes impromptu drop-ins at firehouses. Generally, to tell the firefighters that as much as he loves them—for risking their lives rescuing people from burning buildings and all—he's going to cut their pensions.
You'd have to be Professor Freud to figure out what the mayor's trying to prove by going out of his way to passive-aggressively taunt a room filled with city workers who, for all the obvious reasons, can't talk back.
Not unless they want to get transferred to a firehouse in Outer Mongolia.
As far as I know, firefighters never did anything to Mayor Rahm. Other than endorse Gery Chico in last year's mayoral election.

For the record, the mayor's proud of his firehouse visits. In fact, when reporters ask him why he reserves so much of his official schedule for meetings with gazillionaires looking to trade campaign contributions for city business, the mayor usually says something like:
"What the official schedule doesn't tell you is that I'm always dropping in on firefighters . . ."
Yeah, to talk shit to them.

OT- We all know the cop was shot three times the other night. We all know the cop was carjacked the other night. We all know that a corrections officer was shot 5 times, once in the face the other night.
But with all this non-violence going on we have a LT on days in 011 who does stand up roll call, asks for your movers parkers and anov book. Some were old, some were not used for a year, some just did not have them. So almost everyone, a large percentage of the cops had to drop paper.
The one cop was asked why didn't you write any movers in the last year. His response was " I have been working inside of the schools last few years, I usually don't write movers". Lt says drop me paper why you don't write movers.

So why don't they just make themselves "unavailable" when he comes to the firehouse instead of lining up to shake hands? He's been out to several police stations too when he does his PR stunts after some coppers do some good work. He's been out to my District twice and once was accompanied by McCrimeisdown, and they expected everyone to line up so they cam walk down and shake hands for the cameras. Make it look like we want, like and support them. I saw several coppers take a turn and walk out, which is what I did too. There were 6-8 guys who lined up for the cameras, but most walked away. SOme need to see themselves on Tv I guess. We (coppers and fireman) need to ALL just walk away and go do some busy work. Just sit and give them a wave if necessary as they walk in or walk through the facility. I doubt we're going to get ordered to line up and shake hands. The boss might ask, but we need to resist and no thank you. Screw them and screw the media who are eating it up. This is all hype media BS and when we line up for the photo op, we are just helping the politiciands and the media feed it to the general public. WALK AWAY! The hacks will know why. Fireman, go dump the trash, walk the dog, pull weeds shovel the driveway, wash the sweat, soot and blood off your gear, polish your axe or something else that will keep you out of the circus.

I retired last year at 55 years old. No COLA until I hit 60, then only 1.5 percent. It had been 3 percent per year, not compounded, after a year of retirement. So, the earlier blogger is correct. They have already cut our pension. And, I am sure when I turn 60, they'll take away the small 1.5 raise too. So, basically, what you retire with, you will see no increase, ever. And most of us won't have much of a social security check. Chicago is a cesspool.
I can't believe that everyone is upset that the Mayor is trying to screw everyone and wring every dollar out of the working public.
The very people(unions)that supported him are the people(unions)that he is trying to screw the most. The man is obviously so far left and self important that he really does not give a shit about this city but only himself, and his perceived image. Hats off to the teachers for standing up to his bullshit. I hope that all city workers and taxpayers realize that this man is only interested in his own political agenda and could care less about the hard working people that make this city work. Off the cuff a little bit but there is strong evidence that Human Resources Director Tracy Ladner is at it again, not only are the people waiting to do power testing, physc testing, lie box, but all notifications come to these folks via E-Mail, and alot of them are not getting them ,they are going to their SPAM. a friends son just so happened to look at his Junk Mail the night before his second power test and saw it, he got lucky, but strong strong talk is that an in-ordinate amount of White males are failing the Lie box and Pschy test. My friends son was informed hefailed phsy testing, and he is had a 3.5 GPA in college. Another thing going around is that Ladner is excluding Police officers family, this broad needs to be dealt with, Some years back a group of disqualified candidates sued the city an WON, got back senority to where they should have been, This needs to happen again, Someone should open a web site and have people write in about their recent experiences with this 2010 test.

How many times are you going to post this?? What's your beef with Ladner? I have 23 years on and can say I've never dealt with or met with her. I know 3 people who start the academy today. They went through the process like I did over 23 years ago. They got their official letters to start the academy in the U.S. mail not by e-mail. It may have been officially a few days notice on paper but all three stated they were told a few weeks ago that they passed all phases and will start the academy.

My spin: If only one of the adult employees at that school or a parent had a concealed carry he or she might have stopped much of the tragedy.

Absolutely -- the thought went through my mind that in Israel that school door would be locked and the desk nearby would have an Uzi hanging in the kneehole. The place would have a lousy ALARM BUTTON.

Anyone who thinks the public employee pension systems in this state are going to stay the same really has been living on another planet. Yes, they are going to change or they are going to collapse and no one will get a pension. That, my friends, is a fact bourne out by every actuary who has looked at the funds. The question is how much are they going to change and who will be effected and how long this will be tied up in court. The various governments are now taking the positions the pension funds are stand alone entities and they do not have an obligation to fund them more then what is set out in law and if they run out of money, then that it tough shit, they will not raise taxes. Wake up! Everyone needs a seat at the table on this and something to say about these funds.
