Marine Unit Rescues Dog!

Picking up where they left off in 2012, the Marine Unit sets a brisk pace for 2013:
  • A stray dog apparently hankering for a Canada goose for breakfast found himself on thin ice in the middle of Jackson Harbor Tuesday.

"The dog was sitting kind of nice and peaceful but he was far out," said Marine Unit Police Officer Nial Funchion, who helped get the pooch to safety. "I was amazed he was lasting so long. . .He was out there for hours."

The dog, a 1-year-old shepherd mix, was about 300 yards out into the harbor when he caught the eye of someone on shore around 7:30 a.m., police said. A team from the Chicago Police Marine Unit arrived in minutes, soon joined by media trucks and helicopters.
The dog was eventually tranquilized and rescued

Hey, you take the good news where you can find it.

Nice. No embellishment. If it's a situation where we can help, why not help.
Dog-person here. Feeling a little warmer and fuzzier at the moment.
(And I'm sure the pup is, too.)

I know, I know......just sayin in an environment of decreaseing resourses.....could we spend that money on a human child ?

Even the dogs on the west side are loosing their minds. Now only if I was there I would have wrote a contact card on the dog, the dog owner, the marine unit personnel and wrote an ANOV the the driver of the marine unit for driving on the grass in the park. Also I would have sent a bill to the dog who jumped in the water for wasting city manpower on all this BS when they could have been out doing more contact cards.

a cabbie with a thick Indian accent excitedly told me this story as we cruised LSD along North Avenue lakefront last night. I'd been busy all day/hadn't heard about it. but in the dark back seat of a cab, looking out on that freezing Lake, in subzero wind chills, not one runner in sight, my heart went out to the Officers involved in this humane endeavor. to say the job of a CPD Officer pretty much most of the time is dangerous is an understatement. and, it takes a lot of courage and heart to succeed in a rescue of this nature. hats off to Marine Unit and God Bless the CPD, all of you, land or lake. Be safe and Godspeed, especially during this arctic blast.

Nice to wake up to good news. Thank you to the Marine Unit and SCC for keeping us up to date on the non-stop brisk pace of the Marine Unit. S/O

To 12:58 a.m. Poster of the crap below - you are a goof. Can't just take a little good news where you can get it? Rahm could have spent $55 million "on a human child" but chose not to. It's okay to save an innocent animal.
