When Seconds Count...
- A Wisconsin sheriff says he released an ad calling on residents to defend themselves because the old model of having a citizen call 911 and wait for help isn't always the best option.
In the ad, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke Jr. tells residents that when it comes to personal safety: "I need you in the game." He urges citizens to learn to use firearms so they can "fight back" until authorities arrive.
The ad has drawn sharp criticism from other area officials. The president of the Milwaukee Deputy Sheriffs' Association, Roy Felber, says it sounds like a call to vigilantism.
But Clarke says he can either whine about budget cuts that have reduced the number of deputies or call on citizens to work with officers in some situations.
Someone who actually gets it and understands what has to be done.

Sheriff Clarke should be commended for speaking out and informing the citizenry that defending yourself is the only game in town.Police are stretched to thin to do their jobs effectivley. This is the only Law Enforcement official to stand up for the people in the midwest. As a retired p/o I salute you sir.

His message is spot on, but take it from a Milwaukee copper that the Sheriff is an idiot. We were happy when he left the PD and went to the SO. Milwaukee County is comprised of 19 incorporated cities all with their own PD. The Sheriff has primary responsibility for some parks, freeways, courts, and jails. In short, they don't respond to criminal matters unless it is driving related. Never before have I seen a man say so much about law enforcement when he has so little to do with it.

That is not true. Most of the sheriffs outside of the the collar counties are on board. The collar county sheriffs are not adamantly against self defense, but are kind of queasy over concealed carry. Even Dart is not as bad as you might think.
Most localities in IL are firmly in the self defense camp as are the citizens that live there. The idea of concealed carry for self defense is gaining approval across the state, even within Cook County and Chicago.
Most of the vitriol is coming from the gangsters that run the city of chicago and cook county.

Milwaukee County is just under a million people in population and its county seat is the city of Milwaukee. By comparison, it's equivalent to Sheriff Dart making the same comment. Of course, that will never happen! One of the reasons I visit Milwaukee often. Great bars, Summerfest
and Cub games. I will continue to support Milwaukee and spend no money in the city of Chicago.

In addressing mature, productive adults as the responsible, thoughtful, competent people they are, Sheriff Clarke is the polar opposite of the arrogant, condescending Garry McCarthy -- who upon his arrival in Chicago seems to have rushed from the airport to pay obeisance to the shameless Boy Pfleger at St. Sabina's before even unpacking or seeing his new digs.
Many fine officers are stepping forward on the side of law and order. One state after another is contemplating "Sanctuary City"-inspired laws that would protect American gun owners -- instead of illegal aliens -- from actions of the federal government.

Suspect?
Obama has tied the two together openly. Yesterday morning he said approximately, "We need to get 'IT' done. We need a reasonable first step at gun control and we need immigration reform."
The antis are now saying not just "gun control," but "gun control reform." Of course, "gun safety" now means not safe handling but "gun confiscation," and -- dig this -- "gun ownership" is now being called "weapons possession."
Been watching this roll for more than three decades now.
Remember -- 20,000 local, state, and federal gun laws on the books already - but every new one is "a good first step."
The Homicide Detectives (And I was one of their Sergeants for years)
will be there after it is all over and you are forever DEAD, to count the entrance and exit wounds on your lifeless corpse. Then they will interview witnesses, family members, neighbors etc. If there is a known or suspected subject or subjects, they will make a very good attempt to find him/her/them. After which they will sit down at their computers and write a beautiful report of your untimely passing. After that they will go and get something to eat, lamenting the fact that you are dead and the offender is still "in the wind". They will follow it up tomorrow.
The Evidence Techs will collect any spent shell casings, blood samples, DNA samples, etc.
They will photograph and diagram the entire crime scene, showing your lifeless body, front and center. Then they will go and get something to eat. Then they will go to their office and make out their report, listing you, the victim as either Joe Shit, for example, if your name is known by then, or as John/ Jane Doe if not.
Your local county Coroner/Medical Examiner will send out one of his representatives to make the official pronouncement that YOU ARE DEAD. Then they will go and get something to eat. After which they will make out some report indicating that YOU ARE FOREVER GONE
AND WILL NEVER ENJOY PIZZA/WINGS/PASTA/etc. again.
Then you will go to your county morgue, where the next day one of
your local Coroner/Medical Examiner's butchers will slice and dice your lifeless corpse like a dead cow in an attempt to determine
"Cause of Death", which in most cases was obviously apparent to all as "Lead Poisoning" in most cases, but will be described as "Extreme shock and exsanguination from X number of gunshot wounds." Then he/she will go and get something to eat. After which he/she will make out your very own Death Certificate. You will never get a copy. In Crook County Illinois, neither will the Board of Election Commisioners. Whatever you may have been in life, you will vote straight Democrat from then on.
All of this could have been easily avoided, had you been aware of the fact that when the Police are 2-5-10-20 minutes away, one or more shots from your revolver, if you had had one would have taken no more than 1 to 3 seconds to make things right.

I support concealed carry by qualified people. Permit applicants should be carefully screened and have appropriate "hands on" training. It would be interesting to offer a variation of "shoot/don't shoot" to civilians.
I think Milwaukee is where the mayor was hurt going to the aid of a crime victim and the chief sometimes goes out on patrol. Maybe Rahm and McDoofus ought to take the Amtrak up there some day and see if they can learn something.
