Hate to say it, but if they're trying to cause mass chaos with multiple hits in multiple locations, it isn't going to happen. We adapt quickly and we aren't stunned into inaction anymore.
Guys please remember your training in a situation like the tragedy in Boston. IED's have no direct target, your weapon is useless. Dont rush in, assess the scene, dont use your radio or cell phone until you reach a safe distance from the first blast. Remember, secondary devices are meant for first responders. Non police reader here. I've run Boston 4 times and the experience is hard to describe to a non runner, but trust me qualifying and running is huge. Before the race the police have everything LOCKED down, this wasn't something planted before the race. No way.
A guy had finished in 2:33:00 which is a solid sub elite time. He was waiting for his wife at the finish line. There is a picture of him on the Atlantic and the Boston Globe in a wheelchair. His leg is gone.The bomber put ball bearings in the bomb. An 8 year old is dead.
Whoever did this needs to be hunted down. No Quarter.
Hope it doesnt happen here. We are NOT ready for that kind of thing.

Newest report is that 2 unexploded devices have been recovered.
Heard tell that at least one device was packed "claymore" style with ball bearings.
Very brave running toward the chaos, but all need to be mindful of secondary devices that are there to specifically target first responders. Just keep that in mind. Remember that a bomb(s) like this is not a man with a gun call where we go in. Bombs are not an even playing field. Not criticizing, just an fyi amongst the crazy. Keep your head ladies and gents.

If this story is in fact true, McCarthy should listen to the tape and give her one of his famous tough guys ass chewings and then relieve her of her command. If he claims to be a "coppers cop" then he should be very unhappy with this goof and take action.
My thoughts and prayers are with the victims of the Boston Marathon Explosions. My wife is a marathon runner and I go to her races constantly. If she were running in today's race I would've been standing right where the bombs went off waiting for her.
As for the cowards for who did this, I hope you burn in hell.
Spent every summer as a kid in Boston with family members who immigrated from Ireland.They lived in both Southie and Charlestown got to know many Boston coppers over the years,the salt of the earth! EMS could be overwelmed and you're on you own. You could save yourself, your partners, and even an INNOCENT bystander with a few dollars worth of equipment that is easy to carry in a pants pocket and easy to use with some practice (for proof look at the giffords shooting incident- deputies saved lives with simple trauma kits they had recently been issued). Training is available (nemrt, leomedicus, or just talk to a vet who has gone through self/buddy aid) and there are dozens of vendors (chinook medical, North American rescue, hell even amazon). There are lots of simple kits available, or just get the basics. get a cat, soft-t or swat-t and some Israeli dressings and it will go a long way. Stay safe and look out for each other.

Just saw him on Nightline. Bill Iffrig. 78yoa!! His THIRD Boston marathon! He got up, finished the race, then walked six blocks back to his hotel. He's okay. Amazing.
My thoughts and prayers got out to the injured and killed. God bless them and all the first responders.

Boston PD immediately went to work, like police everywhere would. Ran to source of explosion, I heard calls go in within seconds calling for more help, medical etc. Some officers took protective stances, weapons drawn, not knowing what the threat was or if it was over. Cops knew immediately it was an attack.
Great work Boston PD, stay safe brothers and sisters. You did your city proud.
