ANOTHER Police Shooting
Coppers on-view a shooting, follow the shooter, get shot at for their troubles and kill the assailant:
- A teenaged gunman on a bicycle firing shots at pedestrians and police officers was fatally shot by police in the Lawndale neighborhood this afternoon on the West Side, according to authorities.
The gunman, who is 15 or 16, was been pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to Pat Camden, a police union spokesman.
It happened in the 1300 block of South Independence Boulevard in the Lawndale neighborhood, according to police.
Grading the reporting, we find the following:
- The Tribune starts off well, saying "gunman" instead of "victim" and a headline that reads "Police Fatally Shoot Man in Lawndale." In the article however, they say "boy," as if a boy with a gun is somehow incapable of killing numerous pedestrians and police officers. Once you pick up a gun, you kind of give up the "boy" status. The Trib should have stuck with "gunman."
- The Sun Times goes right to the ghetto reporting with "Chicago Police officer fatally shoots 17-year old boy on West Side. We imagine that there will be Sun Times reporters lined up to get graduation pictures and all sorts of imaginary family members who will swear Junior was just about to turn his like around, didn't have a gun and was destined to be the next famous rapper to make it big.
In any event, a fine job by all involved. Well done Officers.

Channel 5 laid off the ghetto trash interview, instead finding a young female local resident who admitted that the "boy" was out there shooting at people. Potentially a turning point in the slanted cowardly journalistic pract ices in this city.

Ch 9 had one a "witness" who said the "police shot the kid in the back, he was laying in the street, dead, and they handcuffed him.". Then she said, "I'm a mother, and I feel for all the mothers out here.". Hey "mom", this piece of shit was shooting at people and then turned TWICE and shot at the police while pedaling away on his bike. I guess we have the answer to Rahm's question about who was raising these kids. Hood-rat mothers like her. And shame on Ch 9 for even putting this bitch on TV. Nice job to the responding units.

For some unknown reason the Tribune left the comments up for this story. Typical responses, some people thank the police and are horrified that a teenager would ride a bike around while shooting a gun randomly. Others, from the black culture, assume the poleeses 'dun murdered 'dat innocent bot, planted da' gun and made up da' story so 'day cud' kilt a innocent black kid.
Of course, no explanation for the independant witnesses who saw and heard the kid shooting and called the police.
Many years ago my FTO told me that I would go to scenes of shootings and find people who swore poleese did the whole thing and setup the poor black man. I doubted this but like everything else I was told by older officers, it was absolutely true.
I never would have believed that stuff if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. A young teeneged kid shooting at random while riding a bicycle in Lawndale? Sure, sounds entirely reasonable for Lawndale and a black kid. Seen similar things myself.
I never would believe someone would commit suicide by stabbing themselves in the neck in public but it happened. Stranger shit too.
Oh, in the Tribune comments, the usual suspects invoke the name of Jon Burge as proof the police murdered that innocent black kid. That's to be expected.
Why any decent officer would work in those God forsaken areas is beyond me. Nothing at all has changed there for generations. Nothing gets better, few get their lives on the right path. It is just lost generation after lost generation.

The grieving mother of a 16-year-old boy police shot Sunday afternoon on the West Side said her son was shot “in cold blood.”
Jutuan Brown stood outside her Lawndale home one day after the shooting, saying her boy, Tywon Jones, was an ordinary teenager not involved in gang life.
Hi I'm not a cop, so hopefully can get an answer: Don't you guys have dash-cams on your cars? I would hope so as something like that would pretty quickly clear up an mis-information from the gunman's family.
I know that Michigan State Troopers, and a lot of county sherrif officers there, have dash cams, I've seen countless arrests & chases from those online. But what about CPD? And if you have them, can the video be released??

On a serious note, what economic opportunities do the youth in North Lawndale have? This self proclaimed "gunnner" played with guns, smoked choice weed, drank top shelf liquor all without unemployment. These things cost money and I'm sure selling weed and a mutitude of govt entitlements provide sustenance. For the other youth who may make something of themselves, what employment opportunities exist after four years of change? I'm not drinking the kool-aid, but lets say a substantial percentage of youth would be able to prove themselves, if there were given a fighting chance and a real opportunity. The schools do not prepare them, the political message is your poor, you can't succeed and elected official are your "saviors." When will these sheep take control of their destiny and implement change?

In reference to your critique of the coverage, I was on scene. The gun was located about 2-3 feet from that bicycle they keep showing. I haven't seen a single photo or video coverage that shows his gun. Is this an organized editing effort to make sure all they see is "some kids" bike? What gives?
