Restaurant Owner Murdered in Cicero

  • Giovanni Donancricchia was not only a top-notch pizza chef whose food was featured on national and local television shows, he also was a loving Italian immigrant father who worked long hours at his Cicero restaurant to support his wife and three children, his family said.

"He never missed a day of work and sent all his kids to college," said his son, Saverio Donancricchia. "Everything he did was for us."

Early Thursday, soon after closing Albano's Pizzeria for the night, Donancricchia, 64, of River Grove, was shot to death inside his establishment in an apparent robbery, Cicero police said. The well-liked, longtime neighborhood businessman, who would provide pizza slices on credit, was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:56 a.m.
Cicero has a few decent leads on this one and a tape exists. Sympathies to the family.

It's crimes like this that scream "death penalty" for the offender(s). Thanks, convicted felon George Ryan. When they catch this cowardly little punkass and convict him, he'll be on the taxpayers dime the rest of his life. What a shame for this guy and his family. Good luck to the people investigating this one.

I had the pleasure of eating at Albanos when I worked in 15. Mr. Donancricchia was always there. He even made me a dish that wasn't on the menu. He even remembered me when I stopped in long after I left Fort Forgotten. He's now making pizza puffs in heaven. Blessings and thoughts to his family. What a very sad day.

What a shame! He always had a smile and a thank you for all of the police that patronized his place. A genuinely nice guy and his employees seemed to love him too. The coward that did this should pay the ultimate price for his cowardly act! RIP, you will be missed. God bless.

any 008 coppers remember the owner of the florist shop that was shot near 85th and cicero a few years ago? Did he die also? My wife and I actually called him in regards to using him for our wedding and then this happened suddenly, we had to find a new florist in time. Now the place is closed. What a shame, a small shop in a neighborhood for years now closed because of jagoffs.

Description of offender: Aspiring 18 year old rap artist with multiple felony convictions and one turn in prison and on parole. Momma will cry he is a good boy turning his life around and swear the little darling was home with her reading the classics. Poleese set him up.

Cicero didn't put out a physical description or at least, the Tribune didn't print one, why do you think that is?

This is the reason you do work in the ghetto. Because these ghetto mutts destroy hard working peoples lives. Justify being a dog all you want but when you arrest these fucks in the ghetto it prevents them from traveling to good neighborhoods and causing havoc. Even though this is a crap neighborhood a good man worked and died in it.

Most likely the killer was not an honest hard working citizen who was taught to respect himself and others, NO he was a punk who was allowed to steal and never punished and probably on welfare for his whole miserable life and it just wasn't being handed to him fast enough so now he is going to just kill those that were not only paying the damn taxes, but worked so hard to provided for his family inc. college educations. Welfare needs to be for one child only and for five years max.

So sorry for your loss. I'm a Cicero resident and restaurant patron that remembers that face well from popping out of the kitchen at times. You all have always been very pleasant when coming to the restaurant which is a testament to Mr & Mrs Donancricchia. God bless you in this time of great loss.

Reminds me of the guy who owned a candy store at North and Pulaski who was murdered by dog ass former tenants. The guy was a prince, had family who worked at a nearby Catholic High School. Good decent guy from a good family. Fucking savages never met a good family and don't know what that means.

Now THAT is was lack of concealed carry does, destroys families.

How can these liberal democrat pukes justify that?

They have no regard for life.
May God bless this family.

Might be another piece of Chicago sh*t who murdered this good man, or it might also be a Cicero loser, seeing as how Cicero now has its abundance of garbage.
The point is, however, that for as much as liberals cry about a lack of investment, or food deserts in certain areas, there isn't a serious civic leader in this disgusting county willing to address the real issue here.

The media covered this with its usual appalling lack of depth. We can't even inform the public of a description? Really? The public's right to know compromised and perhaps this will even give the murderer time to hide another day.

In any case, once he gets caught we'll see how he has a record, is on parole, was released early, and all those responsible sleep quite comfortably on a hefty public salary: Quinn, Madigan, Alvarez, Dart, Emmanuel, Preckwinkle... Let'em go, poor, under-served, malnourished, discriminated against... blah-blah-blah!

It takes a village, it takes another billion, it takes another march, another program.

Goodbye, America, it was good to know you.

And how do you claim reimbursement for food that was giving to you free with a link card? Isn't that fraud? You didn't pay for it anyway.

Savage democrat in custody and charged with murder, att armed robbery. But why is the offender carrying a gun? Doesn't he know there is no concealed carry law in Illinois? That means he cannot carry a pistol! I suppose Little Lisa Madigan will fiddle fart around a few more months or years trying to throw more roadblocks int the way of a concealed carry law.

How that Gov. Quinn? No concealed carry yet this guy is carrying a concealed weapon? No decent citizens can carry, they are the ones doing the dying.

The Chicago Tribune has the story and posted video images from the restaurant's security cameras.

The owner came to his wife's assistance when the criminal pulled a gun on her. His action gave her time to get clear.

The family stated that it intends to reopen the restaurant in one week to honor the memory of the deceased.

God bless them in their time of sorrow.

Ist post on the money,

My deepest sympathy's to the family, a hard working family.

The animal who did this has no values and never will. Entilements, handouts, free cell phone, race cards, no accountability for anything and excuses have created this monster.

I read the family wants to continue operating the restaurant. They say they will use off duty PO's for security. I am retired and will call them after a suitable time and volunteer for a day a week or so. I feel bad for those people. A good loving father and husband snatched from life for nothing.

This tragedy points up the reason why Pat Quinn and Lisa Madigan need to quit playing politics with the Concealed Carry Law.

This cowardly punk may not have planned this armed robbery if the restaurant owner would have been able to exercise his 2nd Amendment Right to defend himself and his wife. I am not saying who would have been the winner in a gun fight, but the owner never had a chance being unarmed.

One of the virtues of private gun ownership ("More Guns, Less Crime") is that many perps are cowards who do not want to face off against targets who can fight back. The thugs want to rob unarmed citizens.

Tragic

Cicero P.D. now has offender in custody. Great work guys.

Suggestion

To prevent tragedies like this business owners should display a sticker on the front door that has a handgun on it with this legend:

"For the protection and safety of our staff and customers one or more of our personnel may be legally armed."

This would cause Rahm and McGoofball to blow a fuse and may send undercovers in to try to get you to show them the weapon. So with that that on the door refuse to show ANYONE that you have a gun on the premises.
