McCarthy Swan Song?
- With the long Fourth of July weekend not even half over, the toll from violence in Chicago stood at 9 dead and at least 36 wounded today, including two little boys, 5 and 7, seriously hurt while at parks with their families.
The victims since Wednesday afternoon also include a 14-year-old boy shot on the West Side, a 16-year-old boy wounded on the South Side and a cabbie shot in the stomach by a robber on the South Side.
The youngest victim so far is 5-year-old Jaden Donald, who was shot in the abdomen and right leg while with his family at a party in Cooper Park on the Far South Side shortly after midnight.
Violence is still down? They're trying really hard to keep the wraps on the Navy Pier disaster the night of the Fourth turned into.
We also have information from a friend (whose comment was accidentally deleted) that the recent double "Death Investigation" at a downtown hotel has been improperly classified as a murder/suicide, when in fact both of the parties sat on the beds in the hotel room facing one another and simultaneously shot each other in the head. Two homicides suddenly became one....like magic! We have to wonder why they just didn't write it up properly and claim credit for solving two homicides - the abysmal clearance rate would have gone up a few percentage points.
And then this:

A friend of mine is an assistant to one of Rahm's advisors. The are calling McCarthy "The Weekender" (which is a slam on his notorious drinking).
The complaint is that McCarthy is never available for comment during a high profile crime event. He is usually only available on Monday mornings, when he goes on a few broadcasts and explains how wonderful everything is after the news reports another bloody weekend.
McCarthy is finally wearing on people. His answers are always the same, "Everthing's going great, crime is down, we're not going to change anything, it will just take more time.". Rahm's advisors want him out, but Rahm won't do it. The advisors are screaming for a big, aggressive mobile unit, but McCarthy refuses.
Last night, a 7 and 5 year old were shot. The 5 year old is not doing well. The police also shot and killed an offender. McCarthy will not be on TV until Monday, at which time he will tell the city how wonderful everything is.
McCarthy may be finally pissing off the people who can push him out
9 dead, 36 maimed and the weekend is only half over. The revenge killings alone should make CompStat a fun time for the affected districts next week.

Complain to your Alderman about the lack of police presence in your neighborhood.
Have a plan for home and work for the Zimmerman verdict. Can you get to work safely. Maybe wear your body armor to and from work. Call your desk and ask if there is a riot hazard on the streets that you will approach on.

I'm no fan of McStupid, but there are some things you just can't change, such as the ghetto culture. Weren't those kids out after midnight? I don't EVER remember being out anywhere near midnight until I was 16! The exception would be a family get together, indoors, where we were all asleep in the back seat on the way home.
We had to be home when the streetlights came on, period. And in the summer, before that because of the longer days.
As long as ghetto is as ghetto does, how can you stop people bent on killing each other from doing so? You've got single mothers with 10 kids sleeping on the floor, no food in the house, no supervision, no male role models.
Cut out the welfare and stop the incentives to have multiple kids. If we can't stop them from killing each other, maybe we can keep them from having 15 kids with 15 different 'daddy's' who aren't in their lives and who don't support them.

I could take his place. Let's not pretend that his job is difficult or complex. Being the superintendent of the CPD is not brain surgery or nuclear physics. Right now we have a moronic, loud mouth, bullshitting drunk running the show that probably had a 2.0 grade point average his whole life. Before him we had Terry "Hibbity Jibbity" Hilliard, who most of the time couldn't string a coherent sentence together. We also had J-Fled. Although he wasn't a stupid man, he was so out of touch with the CPD and Chicago in general that you could drop him off on Ashland and he couldn't find his way to Damen. That job isn't about qualifications, it's about clout. A monkey could do the job better than those previous three. I made no mention of fat Phil because he was no doubt the best one out of them all, although that's not saying much.

SCC, The Hotel "murder/suicide" was not even counted as one homicide. They classified it as two suicides. The crime lab proved otherwise and were told to leave the classification as is. It was initially classified as murder/suicide, but someone, somewhere reclassified it and subtracted not one, but two homicides from the REAL total. Wonder how often this happens. Isn't lying to the FBI a criminal act?

Would someone please elaborate on what happened at Navy Pier this weekend? I live in the neighborhood and have seen things going downhill very quickly. I am making a plan to get out of this city/state as soon as possible.

The REAL reason(s) why we've been afflicted with the likes of McCarthy and Weis as Superintendents?

It seems that Mick Dumke of The Reader has been engaged in a running battle with the Daley and Emanuel administrations since June of 2010 regarding an FOI request for Police staffing changes announced by Daley on the recommendation of a study done by a group of "professional consultants."
(Quotation marks for emphasis are ours)
For the last couple of weeks, there have been some interesting commentary about how we seem to be living one big experiment on how far a formerly robust urban Police Department is being intentionally bent by the criminal-political powers that be, before it's broken.
Does "professional consultants" mean the brain-trust of academic grifters at the University of Chicago?
It IS a curiosity as to how/why they've had such an overriding interest over the years in stuff and things pertaining to inner workings, operational capacity and the institutional muscle-memory of CPD.
And they've rather curiously, been at the forefront of the ongoing push to "re-boot" and "re-image" CPD while changing the very concept of Chicago Policing itself.
Never you mind their ties to City Hall and the White House which is doubly tied to City Hall...
Zero degrees of separation. we opine that it's all the same rotten thing.
Yes... We ARE living an experiment.
One that has cast Policing and Policemen as the main causative for "what's wrong" in this city.
Why have Daley and Emanuel fought so energetically to SHIELD Something of public record from the RIGHTFUL PURVIEW of the tax paying public?
Or rather, something that deeply affects public safety and the PERCEPTION thereof?
The fear of hard pointy questions regarding the diversion of tax payer treasure from Police/Public Safety?
Historical Note:
Daley stripped CPD budgetary oversight and authority from the Superintendent. We can't remember exactly on who's watch it occurred but it was either Hillard or Cline.
According to the article, Dumke has filed suit against the city regarding the fight over the 2010 staffing report.
Dumke has enlisted the pro bono help of Professor John Elston and students from Northwestern U. Law School.
Time will tell on this one...
The political powers have REAL fear of the hard eyes of The POLICE and discerning citizens studying the documents in question.

A lot of people claimed downtown was out of control on the night of July 4th. Where is the video on Youtube? I am highly skeptical. So out of the million people that were there, we have zero videos of all the "mayhem" and "out of control robberies"?
The same goes with the Gay Pride Parade. Sure there was drunken idiocy. But where is the video proof of all the out of control stuff?

Based on your account of auto traveling E/B on Lawrence Ave., both the shooter(s) and the vics were within the confines of the 20th Dist.
On N/S streets, the boundary is the EAST CURB.
In any event from previous homicide experience, the location where the body falls (or is dumped) is the beat of occurrence unless there is incontrovertible evidence that the shooting occurred elsewhere.
Don't even get me started on isolated cases where district police dragged the vic's body across a district boundary. It has happened.

The great peacemaker, Rev. Corey Brooks, was on WBBM radio on Saturday talking about the rising tide of violence in his community. The interviewer mentioned that so far, (Sat morning) there had been 9 dead and 60 shot since the July 4th weekend had begun.
Before he could think he stepped in shit and said "Well, that's to be expected in that neighborhood" and then had to tap dance and back step all over to clean that one up. There will be even more dead and shot by Sunday night and the Rev Brooks is 100% correct, that is "to be expected."
It is safer in fucking Egypt during a revolution or Afghanistan during a war than on the souf or west side of Chicago on a warm July 4th weekend.

Copper who beefed on the XO came off a suspension and was sent to 014. Demanded to be put on days. The XO told him there wasn't room on days at that time. This put the XO in this copper's target sites. You can figure out the rest.

Just look at any news broadcast of any police situation. Most of the cops on these scenes look like absolute fools. I think about their family and friends spotting them on the TV and just gasping at how foolish they look. Untucked shirts, baggy pants, sloppy hair, tats all over, unshaven, baseball cap wearin goofs. Like fat little boys and girls playing cops and robbers.
If the image comes on and your friends are with other people, they will certainly pretend they don't know you. You must be a total embarrassment to the people who know you or you are a source of amusement as they laugh at you like everyone else does.

If you're talking about Michelle's cousin, I completely agree with you. He was brought back from CPS for exactly this reason.
They give us stars. So wear them if you don't like the patches.
I still prefer a pair of lightweight boots over gym shoes. Boots are better for kicking down doors. Boots protect your feet better from glass and nails on the shitty streets I walk on in the ghetto. What about bloody crime scenes.
When I take the train downtown for court, I see the women secretaries wearing gym shoes. Gym shoes are for the people who stand or sit at the desk all day, not for the workers on the street imo.
If you think gym shoes make you that much faster to catch fleeing criminals great. I'd rather chase them in boots. It may take a little longer but the thug will be a little more tired when I catch him and have less energy to fight, especially those who run despite later claiming to have asthma.

Our stars are gay as shit and look nothing like the Real Police Star that I was given twenty five years ago. 70 percent of the police dept is overweight and is now wearing gym shoes. You wonder why were not respected on the streets? Look in the mirror with the hair gel generation taking over. Baseball caps and cargo pants? WE LOOK LIKE GARBAGE!!!!
I totally agree with you, there has to be a change in leadership. And I don't mean from within the department, look at all the idiots we have had Rodriguez, Cline, what a joke. The light blue shirts and the checkered hats, we look like bus drivers on a smoke break. Most modern Police Depts have gone to dark blue uniforms and black and white cars. I was in Los Angeles on vacation a months ago and I will tell you they might have had their problems like any big Metro Department, but they looked sharp. They wear shields as badges and just about every copper had a sharp uniform and looked professional. We drive around in white cars like they had back in the 70's. All our coppers even the young ones who should take pride in their appearance look like rag bags. In the Army we called it command presence. Even if you don't know what the fuck you are doing at least look like you know what you are doing. Can't wait to retire from this rats nest, it's getting worse every year.
If anybody believes the fools in the street will respect us if we all looked clean and sparkly in our uniforms you are crazier than we think you are........you really think they will respect us based on the shoes we wear? What kool aid are you drinking?
When the Pabst Blue Ribbon distributor puts out the "For Sale" sign you know McCarthy is GONE!!!! Chicago made the NBC Nightly news with a 10sec blip about the "Possibly related to gang violence" NO SHIT???

Yes now CPD does look like shit on the TV news to us-The Police. Citizens could care less.
Let me take you back to the mid-60's, living in Roseland:
Beat Copper:Young,in good shape,just back from Nam,Crown Cap w/Shield,Blue Uniform Shirt,Old Star,1/2 moon Chicago Police patch w/"5" in the center of the patch.Revolver,dump pouch, and baton.NO Radio(In Cars Then). Blue pants with a white bead/stripe along the seam.Black,shined,combat boots,that saw combat.

I don't have anything else to add, other than that is why I wanted to be the Police.

Listen older timer it's time to retire! Sorry brother but this department has to change with the times. I wear gym shoes, and I'm proud to wear them. I work in the ghetto, and why would you wear boots anymore. Also about the star I will admit its not a badass stars like I had when I came on the job. But what are you going to do. This department once great but now it sucks. This department is only good for two things overtime and your amusement!

This whole police dept is a joke. There's no pride anymore. The bosses were never the police. Our uniforms look like shit with that stupid patch as our star. I hear you,but too many coppers don't. Mandatory physical fitness exam once a year and mandatory practice at range once a month.
Come tomorrow morning, watch for McWalkingPapers (Nice one, anonymous poster from another thread!;o) to ballyhoo a decrease from July 2012 in an effort to keep people from noticing the numbers are almost identical to July 2011...

A lot of people claimed downtown was out of control on the night of July 4th. Where is the video on Youtube? I am highly skeptical. So out of the million people that were there, we have zero videos of all the "mayhem" and "out of control robberies"?
The same goes with the Gay Pride Parade. Sure there was drunken idiocy. But where is the video proof of all the out of control stuff?
