Officer Recovering From Attack
- Chicago police Officer Jimmy Sherlock is recovering at his home after being beaten unconscious while off duty during a robbery in the South Loop that he barely remembers, a frustrating circumstance that has he and his police brethren looking for the public's help.
"They came from behind; I don't really remember much at all," Sherlock said Monday. "I was knocked out cold."
Sherlock, whose father, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather were all Chicago police officers, is a six-year Chicago Police Department veteran assigned to the South Chicago District on the South Side.
He has hearing loss in his left ear, an injured arm and a broken collarbone, shoulder blade and rib, he said.
Missing is a KHS road bike and the Officer's iPhone. We've seen posters circulating around the city. The bike is very distinctive.
Best wishes to the Officer for a speedy recovery.

Jimmy's dad worked security (side job) at the old Woodlawn Hospital in the heart of Indian country . A great family. Best of luck.
How about someone bring up that he walked into 001 and identified himself as a PO and the girl working the desk told him to go outside and wait for the ambulance.
Is it true that he was treated very poorly by 001st Dist. desk crew?
Lets talk about how he was treated by the police post incident? This incident occurred over a week ago. No mention anywhere that he is the police except the one line, 490 notified. What happened to taken care if a fellow officer and going the extra mile? Nope just the run of the mill case report. The desk should of sent a car and tried to track his phone immedietly, but no, take a number and stand in line.
I hope they catch the scumbag suspect or suspects who did that to him and get charged with attempt murder on a police officer
A CR should be initiated on the female working the desk in 001 where young Sherlock went for assistance. Clearly injured, staggering, delerious and bleeding from the back of the head. This POS desk dolly does nothing for the officer (no rendering of aid). The officer even is seen going behind the desk and producing his CPD ID. She makes no effort to comfort him, give him a seat or make any type of notification. Dr's said at the hospital, where young Sherlock had to bring himself, that had he gone home, he surely would have succumbed to his injuries due to the head trauma. This desk officer would have given more service to a street urchin. REVIEW THE TAPES. Can't blame the WC or new name DSS for this one. She never notified him! It's all on her lazy ass.

I believe it sadly. The incompetent people we have on this job is a testament to the job that Ladner has done. I too have experienced idiotic and ignorant police service in my own district during traumatic circumstances. Filing a complaint will get you nowhere because it isn't against the law or general order to be stupid and ignorant.
Why if he walked into 001 after it happened was a report not generated for a fellow P.O.? It wasn't done until 018 days did it at Northwestern.

That does not surprise me, some P/Os in 001 as well as 002 have a tendency to direct citizens to other districts when they walk into those stations for reports. I hope they got a number on that P/O.
Prayers for the officer and his family.
Best of luck to the officer.
Let's not overlook the wonderful treatment he received from both 001 and 018. Lazy officers pushing the paper work elsewhere. 018 spelled his name wrong on the first report. His name is Sherlock. As in, no shit Sherlock.
A disgrace and a discredit to our profession. Just goes to show what kind of treatment non-police are getting. Jimmy's a good kid and was brutally attacked. Our Brethren failed him...his girlfriend took him to the hospital.

Why would you expect anything more from a useless desk dolly? Just another example of the well-connected overpaid sacks of shit that you see in every district. When she learns how to work a camera she'll be filming academy graduations, making detective pay.
"I just remember seeing a group at about 20th and State and … I don't remember anything after that," Sherlock said.
"Anywhere you think you're safe, you're really not. I thought I was in a good area.”
Yeah, that's a great area.
If it is true that a Female working the desk told him to go outside and wait she should be fired!
I heard the same thing about the 001St district desk.
Always be aware of your surroundings.
Can you post a photograph of the bike? Get well Officer.elysist

==================================
You're shitting us, please tell me that you are just kidding.
Some desk dolly needs some street time and an "inservice" on how you treat a fellow officer
look on craigslist for the bike. these idiots are stupid enough to put it up for sale. I'm a PO on the westside and thats how i found my 2 bikes after they cut the lock. moron had them up for sale the next day on craigslist, i called the number actin like i wanted to buy them, and then bam, myself and a 025 district tac car rode to the scene, i walked in first and once i saw my bikes i called the tac guys. it was a good day. worth a shot. speedy recovery to the injured PO. godspeed.
This makes me so furious. Losing a bike like that is a very personal thing to enthusiasts. Getting broken bones and knocked out cold in the process is maddening!
They're getting bolder...
I worked with Jimmy in TRU, great guy, comes from a great family. Best of luck in a speedy recovery.
God Bless you Jimmy and your wonderful family.
...he walked into 001 and identified himself as a PO and the girl working the desk told him to go outside and wait for the ambulance.
This just can't be true.
call Drudge
Jimmy- I'm praying that you heal quickly and successfully. Thank you for your service! God bless you!
I remember when Lenard Clark was knocked off his bike in the Bridgeport neighborhood years ago. CNN & every other news channel ran with it around the clock for days. I can't seem to find any news source reporting this incident. I wonder why?
Acting Commander at Central District dump your midnight Dsitrict Station Supervisor and Desk Crew or failed command staff leadership!
The way he was treated by a fellow officer is absolutely disgusting, but it doesn't surprise me! Think about it, we are treated like shit by the bosses, by the mayor, by the court system, by the Feds and by the people we serve. So what do you expect, you shit all over us, we feel like shit, so we treat everyone like shit, regardless of who they are.
"If it is true that a Female working the desk told him to go outside and wait she should be fired!"
We all know why that won't happen. Probably a patronage gig for the benefits, and untouchable. How dare Jimmy take her away from surfing the 'net.
Speedy recovery Officer, Thanks for your service.
The South Loop is a shithole in disguise. Pacific Gardens is not to far away and it is full of shitbirds and nutcases. In the other direction King Drive, State is filled with hoodlums. Isn't that were Moppa Mitchell was mugged?
Stop fooling yourselves people, bike lanes and flower pots don't mean anything. There is no safe place in Shitcongo. Unless you're 10miles out in the middle of the Lake.
I've know his Dad for years, we're neighbors on the next block in the "old hood." Dad and son are top notch coppers. Young Sherlock, when he was in TRU, was always looking out for the "home front." A disgrace how he was treated in 001. Get well, Youngster. Glad it wasn't worse.
Old Neighbor and a 5100 Car.
I can say first hand that I walked into 001 a few months ago to generate a traffic crash report. I related that I am an off duty p.o. at which time the female officer behind the counter made a facial expression as if she just bit into a spoiled lemon. She related that I would not believe how busy she was and could I report the accident at a later time? True story!
Lately it seams as if the Beast is everywhere.
Get well officer.
Get a C/R# on that useless sack of shit on the 001 desk that told this injured Copper to wait outside!
Dereliction/Inattention to Duty, Failure to Render Aid, Conduct Unbecoming and all the other Commission of Aggravated Mopery While On Duty administrative charges...
Stick it in her ass sideways for being an asshole.
If it was her on the other side needing help, this would have been a lot of "Woo-Woo!" and the media would have ended up being involved.
Tag the rest of the desk crew and the DSS too...
SOMEBODY should have called bullshit and made this right from the get go.
No fucking reason an INJURED P.O. should have been mistreated like this.
If it is true that a Female working the desk told him to go outside and wait she should be fired!
If that happened, she should be dumped off the desk, but that wont happen because she is friends with the commander, XO or whoever so nothing will ber happen to her

Why should you have to identify yourself as an officer to get decent treatment in these circumstances? Is this how we really want to treat the citizens who are truly innocent victims of crime? It's not just that an officer was treated badly; I've seen these lazy District fucks blow off people who are hurting and in need of help. Perhaps if the desk personnel would dispense with the attitude, they'd be able to differentiate between real victims who need our attention and compassion and those idiots who use "crime" reporting to further their own personal agendas.
Months back my brother who resides in the Palos, got into a car accident in the 9th district.... He went into the 9th district with the other driver to make the report like he was told to do by the officer at the scene. I asked him how he was treated. He said, "well, kind of like a turd". I asked if he told them that his sister was the police, he just laughed and said he did not want to make it any worse. I really was truly embarrassed.
Sadly I can very easily believe that he was treated like shit by desk people. I myself have been on the receiving end I bad treatment by desk officers years ago in 011 district despite identifying myself as a PO. This is truly disgusting. Not only should every possible thing have been done to help him when it was clear he was injured but a whole tact team should've been immedialey assigned the task of tracking down the bike and the robbery offenders who severely injured this copper. Forget about contact cards, dispersal, 3 blow arrests, etc., this is the kind of crime that matters. I wish a speedy recovery to the injured copper. 001 desk crew should be ashamed of themselves
Get well soon Jimmy!!! We're all thinking of you!!!

Hey asshole! This wasn't a citizen, it was a fellow copper that needed help, as in 10-1. There was no other injured person there at the time. Nothing the POS desk officer was doing was more important than helping an injured officer.
I'm sorry but a citizen calling for help gets a quick response from the police. A copper calling for help gets a Fast response from police.
If you don't understand that then get off of the job.
Hey, used to work at Mercy Hosp. and biked to and from work every day, 2nd shift. Would come home riding up Mich (live at Bmont and LSD). And you might wanna check on the shitbags that live in the building at either 21st or 20th and Mich, highrise, must have Sec 8 housing for these P'sOS to live there. Hung out all the time on corner or just inside the side street, blunts, lots of noise etc, they'd eyefuck me but I would shoot it right back, leaving my industrial size chain unlooped in case I had to give a chain link shampoo. Check these fuckers out and Godspeed ofc. Sherlock. Stay safe guys.
holy shit how about some info?
WHen where pic of bike, type of cell phone?
The POS female on the 001st Dist Desk is the end result of removing the Desk Sergeant from the Desk. There is no accountability. It sounds like that POS female P.O. is in training for the PRISONER VAN.
Another useless unit of lazy dogs.

I think one of the points that went right over your head is that citizens quite often do not get a fast response when they walk into a district. As a matter of fact, as a previous poster said, they are treated like a 'turd.' If you think that's acceptable behavior, then maybe YOU should get off the job.
hat does not surprise me, some P/Os in 001 as well as 002 have a tendency to direct citizens to other districts when they walk into those stations for reports. I hope they got a number on that P/O.

I am not surprised. This has happened for many years by lazy desk crews who just do not want to write a report. If this is true, this female officer should be put on a walking post forever.
f you don't understand that then get off of the job.

Why are you so upset? I do not find anything wrong with the comments. Calm down and sober up.
He should get a number on this desk dolly. It just gets worse all around the cpd annoited ones who never see the street. Desk crews in 001 come in the day before their rdo' and then leave minutes later. Magic...3 day weekend.
Walking post my ass. This bitch should be fired, period.
Why didn't the media report this? I saw and read nothing. Disgusting.

Hi people, Missy here. I know the female officer that works the desk. She worked with me writing parkers and is a very hard worker. She got hurt when she twisted her ankle while writing a parker.
She gave her all and is now on limited duty because of her poor foot injury. Please don't be mad at her cause working the desk is very stressful and the people never get a break to even go to freshen up.
Anyway, I am having a nice summer just writing away as many parkers one can do in 10 hours. Good news is that I might become a sgt for all the revenue I give the city. A little birdie told me over the weekend. That would be super-duper wonderful people.
De good people.
Missy oo1 distict.
Parking ticket gUrU.
There were some really good officers in 001, but since they retired, the treatment people receive there is terrible. If you work the desk, you write reports, correct? If you hate doing a report so much, find a new job!
Tribune article was all I could find, interview with Sherlock and his father:
http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013-07-09/news/chi-chicago-police-officer-beating-07-08-2013_1_police-station-father-and-son-chicago-police-officer
001 Missy, you say she was a hard worker writing parkers? Really? Meter maids write all day, also. She's getting paid to be the police, remember? No wonder the city is going to hell.
Wow! feel better Sherlock...
Wishing you a complete recovery .......... You are one of the real police.............my prayers are with you brother........
