We Don't Need No Stinkin' Gun Bans

Quinn's last ditch effort to put more speed bumps on the road to Concealed Carry fell kind of flat recently:
  • As Illinois prepares to become the last state in the country to allow the concealed carry of firearms, few of its communities appear concerned that the window allowing them to ban assault-style weapons will rapidly begin closing next week.

Despite encouragement from Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon -- and on the verge of almost-certain enactment next week of a law allowing residents to carry concealed weapons -- only four communities have adopted semi-automatic gun restrictions out of more than two dozen taking them up.

According to interviews and information from gun-rights groups such as the Illinois State Rifle Association, 14 communities have rejected or decided not to act on proposed bans. Ten have yet to vote or have delayed consideration.

All of them are in the Chicago metropolitan area. Those adopting bans -- Highland Park, North Chicago, Melrose Park, and Skokie -- join eight other cities, also near Chicago, that already regulate possession or sale and transfer of illegal weapons, according to research compiled by the Illinois House Democrats' staff.
The entire effort ran into the harsh reality that "assault-style" weapons were used in something like one shooting in Chicago last year and none at all in the surrounding suburbs.

In fact, we read that not a single "assault style" weapon was used in any of the six-dozen-plus shootings in Chicago this weekend and not one of the shooters is suspected of being an individual who might actually be eligible for a Concealed Carry Permit. Funny thing there - all this mayhem and no Concealed Carry, yet Quinn, Rahm and the democrats insist that the streets will run red with blood. We suppose they mean "redder?"

And not a single one occurred in/near any of these communities.

Their politicians are delusional.

Uh, doesn't the law ALREADY regulate the possession, sale/transfer of illegal weapons?

Saying that Illinois will be last state to allow CCW is sort of misleading I think.

When the Bill of Rights was added to the United States Constitution, thanks to the Second Amendment, both concealed and open carry of weapons was legal.

Sometime since then laws were implemented that violated the Second Amendment, but said laws were never really challenged.

It's funny how we have to pass a law that allows something already allowed in the Constitution of the United States.

Slightly off topic, but watching and reading the news lately about the Gay Pride parade here, I couldn't help but think how those parade goers and participants would have been treated in other countries that do not have a Constitution like ours.

It seems like those who rail against the Constitution the loudest are the very same people who benefit the most from the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution.

Hey, wait a minute! I have an idea. Why doesn't Mr. Potato head ask for another extension! Brilliant I say. Then Michael M can ask for one. Then Lisa M can do the same and we can just keep doing that! Just like defense attorneys do in court.

Lt. Gov. Simon would only be concerned if they started to regulate banjos.

I totally agree with Quinn. We need more gun laws because the law-abiding citizens disregard them. Since the thugs obey them, more gun laws should reduce the murder/shooting/killing rate to -0-.

.....sarcasm.....

Friends of Concealed Carry may wish to visit the leftist Capitol Fax Blog where our liberal opponents are claiming that all FOID card holders are potential racists hell bent upon stalking innocents like Travon Martin. The distortions being told about that trial on Capitol Fax are worse than anything on MSNBC.

Check out the "Hoopla" thread at the Capitol Fax Blog.

I have always asked, out of all the people arrested for gun crimes how many have legal weapons and a FOID card?

It is a shocker!

The Evanston City Council delayed a vote on its assault weapon ban ordinance. The matter will be taken up again next week after the ordinance is substantially revised.

A Evanston alderman conceded that the proposed ordinance was unworkable and would, in effect, criminalize the ownership of most hunting rifles. He recommended that the bill be rewritten.

What makes this so interesting is that the garbage legislation was patterned after the recently passed Chicago ordinance.
