Shots Fired, No Hits

  • Chicago police shot at a 26-year-old man on Lake Shore Drive late Friday night after he sped from a traffic stop, dragging a police officer with him, police said.

Officers in the gang enforcement unit tried to stop a car in the 5200 block of South Lake Shore Drive about 10:40 p.m. Friday and ordered the man out.

He refused and one officer tried to pull him out. The driver, a 26-year-old man, fled with the officer in tow. The officer's partner fired at the driver but missed.
The offender was located a little later and arrested. Best wishes to the Officer for a speedy recovery.

Get well officer... I hope this guy is hammered in court. I see that you are in GEU ... Now I'm not a GEU hater at all but I hear that GEU will be gone by the end of the year... I know there are a lot of rumors in the past but this time it's legit. You heard it here first....

Been working for over 17 years now. NEVER NEVER NEVER put your hands or arms in a vehicle. That is taught to you back in the academy. Never go into the kill zone on a stop. Stay back behind the drivers door and make him look back at you. Get well Officer.

i was literally driving by when i saw this, watched the driver take off with an open door, officer is part insisde part outside, dragged along a good 15-20 feet before tumbling out and then one of the officers fire a shot at the car. insanity. i stopped and called 911 and told them i saw what happened. i gotta say, police response time to this was FAST! hope he gets better quickly and that it wasn't worse. wtf, if you did something stupid, take your traffic ticket or whatever and be on your way. if you got a warrant, suck it up and get in front of the judge. instead, this guy is lucky he did not get himself or someone else killed or pick up murder or att murder charges.
p.s.
surprised nobody from CPD followed up with me to get my statement as a witness. wouldn't they want an eyewitness statement from a civilian??

Best wishes to the injured officer on a speedy and full recovery after ample time for convalescence.

If you run from a law enforcement officer, you shouldn't expect to walk or drive away unscathed.

You should have called back and informed the dispatcher to call you. First priority was to make sure officer was okay.

Yeah, ok. I'll put it in the same file as "new class of sgts./dets. next month", "McCarthy gone by next week", and "big changes this Friday".

Gangs WILL be gone by the end of the year. They're just trying to figure out where to put the 300 or so officers and numerous sergeants. Back to districts, specialized area teams, or a much-downsized, citywide, rapid response unit?
