Just checking here first to find out where the children's dropoff tent will be this year...
We can't seem to ever find the location listed on the city's website or calling the parade organizers, but every year, sure as shit, there it is, the spot I send all my kids til i'm good and ready to come get them at the end.
Can you all have some food and drink this year for them? It doesn't seem right that when I pick them up they are so hungry.

The U.S. Postal Service has suspended mail delivery for at least a week now, in the area of North and Kedzie because a resident there battered the mail carrier. (Female on female.) The offender was known and arrested on the scene, yet postal service is still suspended indefinitely.

The spokesguy for USPS said they're 'assessing' the situation. Meanwhile, all the residents and businesses get NO mail delivery and have to go to the station to pick up their mail.

How long can it take to deliver mail in that small area? An hour, at most. Worst comes to worst, guarantee the postal worker 'safe passage', assign a Federal POSTAL POLICE (yes, Virginia, there really are postal police) car to sit in front of the armory or the bakery, and end this farce.

01:29:00 AM - Postal Police, hahahahahaha. Some quick stories: Woking midnites in 001. Stop two bustouts drinking 40s in a parling lot near main post office. Both can barely stand. Ask them what they are doing there and they tell us they are on break from work. We Tell them to move along and yep, you guessed it, they walk into the main post office right past the postal cop reading the paper and back to work. Story two: A few years back answer a domestic call at main post office. Worker tells dispatch she is in sorting facility and her ex boyfriend is threatening to do her harm. He also works there. As we approach postal cop at entrance, he tells us we can't go in because we don't have jurisdiction there! Third story: Also few years back but after prior story. Its a time when everyone was nuts about terrorists sending toxins thru the mail. Get a call from postal cops to meet them at their office. Once inside they tell us they found an envelope leaking a white powder, can we pleeeeease check it out. All of a sudden we have jurisdiction! Postal Police, hahahahha, please!

Im tired of these kids being caught in the crossfire, learn to SHOOT! learn to SHOOT, go on the range. Go for each OTHER!. these innocent bystanders are the ones that you're hurting". OMG! well said Mr Sanders. Im sure your advise will be implemented immediately.

Who's brilliant idea was it to have the recruits from the academy out there in their bright yellow "Chicago police" vests, in their khaki shirts, with NO GUNS? After a native parade attendee delivers a good old fashioned Bud Billikin-style pistol whipping to someone, the recruit gives chase on a person known to have a gun- while the recruit is UNARMED! All ends well as bad guy goes to jail, and the gun is recovered, but this could have been really bad. Either treat them as police and put them out there, or don't put them out there at all. Either way great job by all involved, especially the recruit with no fear (or just dumb).

So hypocritical.

The mayor closes 50 schools, fires over 2,000 teachers and then goes marching in a parade to show how important education is and that he cares.

The Rahm and Garry show.

They think that they are doing the right thing apparently. However it's like that insane guy that rubs shit all over the wall. He thinks he's Picasso.

Meanwhile, they also glorify some corporate CEO's and the Rickett's like they are a GOD as the Wrigley Field beat rises to the number one position in robberies! All that matters is the jumbo-tron I guess.

Crime is down hahaha.

I can remember sitting on the periphery of Grant park during and after certain musical events, seeing people urinating on trees not 10 feet away from portable toilets, gazing on the vast thick sea of garbage left behind when the concert was over. I'll never forget the sea of trash. It was real. It couldn't be explained away. It meant something. It said something. It spoke the truth. And it is something nobody is ever allowed to see, to mention, to think about, to show - not in the newspapers, not in movies, not on television, not in our own minds. But it's there - right in front of our eyes.

Drop dead. When the South Side Irish Parade got out out of hand due in part to nonresidents crowding into the area, enough neighbors raised objections and successfully shut the parade down until security and crowd control were improved. Nobody from "the community" has called for the Billiken Parade to be suspended until conditions improve or threatened to cancel the parade for its licentious criminality.

Which parade should I do research on? I've been front and center for both for many years. Both started with good intentions, and both got way over blown as far as the city resources that it takes to run both. Add up the bill as far as city services ( police , fire, streets and San) etc - ( not to mention the non sense all around it) and its a no brainer. In a city that's broke - we can't afford it. We don't need a made up character to remind people about school - the importance of school - that's why they invented parents.

If this is supposed to be about going back to school, then the parade organizer's should stress the fact as to how important it is to have the parent(s) involved in juniors education.

Maybe they could have a float that shows a mother and a father sitting down with their children and helping them with their homework. Or maybe instead of having baton twirling bands, have groups of adults holding childrens hands as if they were walking them to/from school?

See,you didn't read my post. What does the drunken debauchery of the Saint Patrick's day parade have to do with Christianity? The Bud Billiken character is based on the little black boys that sold the Chicago Defender way back when.

You're right. It's not pathetic that you need a parade to remind you that your kids school is starting. For most people the date is enough. Considering the results anything helps right???

Didn't I say the Bud Billiken character was based on the black newspaper delivery boys of the Chicago Defender. That means he was based on actual people.
