iPad Burglary
- Police are asking for the public's help finding thieves who broke into a Chicago Public School last week and stole tablets and laptops from the Dearborn Homes neighborhood school.
The break-in took place sometime Thursday evening at the school in the 2700 block of South Dearborn Street, according to the police alert. It took place sometime between 8:45 p.m. Thursday and 2:35 a.m. Friday, said Police News Affairs ....
Although police did not specify the school, the only school in the 2700 block of South Dearborn is part of Drake Elementary, 2710 S. Dearborn, which took over a building formerly occupied by Williams Multiplex Elementary School.
And the kicker:
- The police alert did not specify how many devices were stolen, or whether they were iPads such as those promised to third- through eighth-grade students at Chicago Public Schools taking in students required to change school buildings following the closure of more than 50 CPS schools this year.
So they were promised iPads because Rahm closed their schools? O?r is something being lost in the translation here?

How ya gonna fix it mayor? You keep the equipment in the schools then the school is the target. You make the kids take them home and then that's the target. If you keep your safe passage area secure the soft spot then becomes the homes in the poor communities because they are the ones that most likely have ipads that can be readily sold on the street.

Well, let's do a study and see how much crime these items are attracting and compare it to the number of crimes being attracted by legal gun ownership and see who comes out on top.

Max Operating Temperature Spec's for an Apple Ipad is 95 degrees F.
Taxpayers should prepare their checkbooks for premature failure of the devices.
As "THE CHILDREN" swelter in 95+ degree classrooms jammed pack with 30,40, 50 kids each of them putting out 300 BTU/hrs of heat IF they are sitting quietly you do the math. An average computer server that is located in the school will kick out another 300 BTU's or more! So there's that. The building should be warmer in the winter I guess as long as the batteries hold up until then.
Also note that the recommended max temperature FOR ANY Li-ion battery, the type of battery used in almost every laptop, smart phone, tablet, camera, etc.. is 86 degrees F.
Operating these devices above this temp will result in premature battery failure and the batteries are expensive my friends!
This sounds to me like the xmas stories where the ghetto churches get robbed off all the presents right before xmas....then the good citizens all step up and buy a million dollars worth of gifts .....
Oh are the corporations that have donated a few Ipads, are they not generous? How much of a tax break did the city give them for their effort?

Accretive Health to Create 650 Jobs in Chicago

In return, the City will provide $6 million in TIF assistance, 80% of which will go toward job training skills for Chicagoans; the rest will defray build-out costs.
Accretive was also awarded EDGE tax credit from the State of Illinois, based on the number of people the company plans to hire.

Better start the investigation for finding these IPADS in a different neighborhood because whoever took them has to sell them to people that have the intelligence to know how to use them.
BTW: I wonder if CPS ever find out who stole computers with 1000's of CPS employees SS#'s from CPS headquarters on 125 S. Clark St. a few years ago? Nope....CPS just threw more of OUR money at the problem by paying for each CPS employees' indetity theft coverage for 2 years and buying new laptops and nobody was ever fired for letting this thefts occur. And, knowing CPS, they probably promoted whoever was at fault.
Speaking of just throwing OUR money at their problems, did you know it cost CPS, I mean taxpayers, $1500-$2000 each time a teacher/employee grievance is followed through on and a grievance hearing takes place? Expect those grievances to skyrocket, especially with many teachers displaced or laid off and newbie teachers with less-qualifications, less experience, and making less pay are hired or kept on staff.
One grievance is by a group of teachers looking to get rid of the 'need basis subject area' waivers many CPS teachers and staffers get and are allowed to live outside Chicago. Some need basis subject areas are: PE, Science, Math, Counseling, and Special Education. The teachers filing the grievance are mostly displaced and laid off teachers who live in Chicago.
It's going to get ugly and uglier every day this year for CPS. But..hey, Hey, Ho, Ho, Rahm Emanuel has to go....wrongo bozo teachers.

Accretive Health Inc. began terminating 29 employees last month, including Richard Gillette, who was co-head of revenue cycle operations, which helps hospitals boost payments, according to filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The company began informing employees on June 21 of the layoffs, which are expected to be completed by May. Mr. Gillette was a senior vice-president since 2004 with the Chicago-based company, which is in the midst of restating its revenues going back to 2010. As part of his severance agreement, he is entitled to up to six months' pay at his base salary of $412,000 through Dec. 27 and an extension of stock options that were vested as of June 28, his separation date. A company spokesman declined to comment.
