Mounted Unit Piece

Nice write up about the horses from CBS 2:
  • If you’ve been to any of the major summer festivals or parades, you’ve likely seen members of the Chicago Police Department’s Mounted Unit in action.

The officers and their horses also patrol the Mag Mile, the Museum campus and some city parks year-round. They’re an amazing sight, but more than that.

I'm deathly allergic to horses, but love the CPD's mounted police. Always professionals, always willing to let the public be nice to the horses, but will kick ass when needed.

Instead of the Mounted Unit, they should be called the Clouted Unit.

The horses are great for crowd control and public relations. As one other poster said they "will kick ass when needed". Though some people both on and off this job may think this unit is unnecessary, they serve a vital and important purpose in a city as large and diverse as Chicago. (And no I am not nor ever have been in the unit.)

I'm still on PPO status, but this position seems very exciting! I'm from out of state and grew up riding horseback on my family's farm. I also rode competitively in my teens. How does one apply to the Mounted Unit? I feel I would be a valuable asset to that team!

Dude....or Dudette!

Welcome to the most politically connected police department in the U.S.

They won't allow you to have a horse in Englewood.

Sorry kid nobody told you the inside joke about the recruitment poster it should only show a beat up crown vic and the projects behind it.Thats what you will see for the next 30 years without a chinaman.I'm glad they do good deeds for p.o.'s families and the public but nobody gets in that place without a phone call just like the marine unit.Stop with the lies during recruiting just tell them the truth about the politics.
