Off Duty Kills Burglar

  • An off-duty Chicago Police officer shot and killed a suspected burglar in the North Side Lincoln Park neighborhood late Saturday.

About 11:40 p.m., an off-duty police officer saw a man trying to break into the rear entrance of a second-floor apartment in the 1900 block of North Lincoln Avenue, according to a statement from Chicago Police.

He identified himself as a police officer and ordered the man to get down, the statement said.

The suspect eventually came down, and the officer saw the man had his hand in his waistband, the statement said. The officer twice ordered the man to show his hands, but the man refused.

Then the suspect “threatened the officer’s life” and pulled a “shiny object” out of his waistband as he ran at the officer, prompting the off-duty officer to shoot him, the statement said.

The suspect was killed, and the officer was not injured, the statement said.

Here's a quick set of instructions for ne'er-do'wells:
  1. If you're caught, take your medicine like a man;
  2. If you're told to do something by a cop with a gun, do it;
  3. DO NOT make a play for your waistband.
Very well done Officer. Hope you are doing well.

Good job officer. To my surprise many of the residents in the area were satisfied with the said police service even though they are still liberal. Ignore the Monday morning quarter backing and know that you did our society a great favor. The perp's criminal history is very long and you did more than a judge or jury could ever do to make us safe from animals like him. Thank you.

Good job Officer for doing your duty. How can I find out how many Officers are deployed in my area at any given time? It seems that less CPD are patrolling my neighborhood than 10 or even 5 years ago. I understand that the CPD will not release numbers for “security” reasons, but as someone who has lived in the neighborhood for 15 years why can’t the Alderman tell me this? As a tax paying person living in City I should have the right to know the percentage of CPD in my neighborhood vs. other neighborhoods.

THE OLD SWITCHEROO: Man Brandishing Knife Is Disarmed, Beaten, Stabbed in Wrigleyville

A man who was armed with a knife seemed to have the upper hand in a Wrigleyville fight this morning. That is, until a crowd took matters into its own hands and "neutralized" the offender.

Officers were waved down at 3:02AM by citizens who reported that a fight in the intersection of Clark and Addison involved a man with a knife.

The melee made its way east on Addison toward the nearby Starbucks, where officers called for an ambulance to treat the formerly-knife-wielding man who had been disarmed, beaten silly, and stabbed with his own knife.

An ambulance transported the highly combative man, whom officers referred to as the "victim-slash-offender," to Thorek Hospital, where he expressed his thanks by spitting in a paramedic's face.

Whelp, the city leaders said to be aware of your surroundings and to travel in groups. Looks like that's what they did.

The traveling in groups is how many steps away from forming your own neighborhood gang we wonder?

BTW, where those conceal carry classes at? Isn't there a deadline in about a week?

O.T. I just got home from VRI (61st & Racine) Up until 0100 we spent a portion of the night backing up PPO's such as BT 4150G and other Foot Patrol PPO's. They seem to be stopping everything that moved... You can't very well ignore them as they are on and around "Our Box", sometimes requesting additional cars... I get it! Their full of piss and vigor. They happened upon what turned out to be a B.S. Domestic... "She said, he said" While sparks were flying cars were coming in... Everyone but the PPO's "Sgt" Not even a 003 dist. sgt showed up... It's Bad enough that they have stuck these PPO's on foot in the shit, let alone No Supervision... What's it gonna take? One of these "kids" to get hurt or even killed for Rahm/McCarthy to realize they don't know what the Fuck their doing? You say you don't care? Remember, many of these PPO's are Our "own" brother and sister in Blues kids that are coming out...

You're exactly correct. They won't release the numbers because they don't want to give any fuel to a fight against them when the public sees that police are being stolen from actual taxpayers and given to the non taxpaying scum.

"Security reasons" my fucking ass. They're worried they might see minimal organizing against their attempts to remove police from "nice" neighborhoods and place them only in the ghetto.

You and your neighbors should contact an attorney and consider a lawsuit against the Mayor and CPD for taking away YOUR right to live in a secure hood by stealing away the police that are there to serve ALL citizens, not just those who can't control their animal instinct.

That my friend is what I call "tyranny of government". So much of what our own government does with our own money is cloaked in secrecy. It should alarm every citizen.

Now, if you tell me what district you are in, I can give you an answer as to how many are assigned to that district. I can also give you an educated guess on how many patrol the area during a given shift.

There have been a lot of burglaries and an increase in crime because the mayor insists in stealing police resources from taxpaying areas like Lincoln park to give to the non taxpaying ghettos.

There is no other word for this besides theft. Call your alderman and demand to get police resources back in taxpaying areas. This theft has to stop!!

Unfortunately sir/maam you will never get a truthful answer from city hall, your alderman or even the higher ups at CPD. The truth is we are short manpower out here due to not hiring for years to keep up with retirements. Rahm has lied and said more officers will leave desk positions and hit the streets. Another lie!!! Schedules may show those officers working the streets but reality is they are still inside at the desk, commanders office, Caps office etc. This is true for all districts. Yes it's true taxpaying districts are short officers and crime is now coming your way. It's also true that the ghetto districts are short officers which becomes a safety concern (ie officer in Englewood who got hit with a bat last week). It's hard for us to get time off which leads to exhaustion. Rahm has tried to cover the lack of man power by bribing officers to work days off to combat crime, even though he and Mc Carthy preach every week that crime is down. Every district is down anywhere from 100-200 officers assigned to their district compared to 5-10 years ago. The criminals know this and this is why they have no problem attacking cops on a daily basis which definitely means to poor unarmed citizens are really at risk. Hope this helps a little. Stay safe. Protect yourself and your family. Trust in the Second Amendment!!!

it's not that hard to have good things happen, even IF you are a criminal. good advice from SCC. when you're caught, suck it up. when a man with a gun tells you to do something, DO IT!!! really, it's that simple. you won't get shot, you won't get beat up, and probably, the cop who arrests you will be pretty forthright and reasonable with you, since you did not make him think about what he has to do to go home to family, and might make things a bit easier for you overall, as opposed to being a jerk, running the risk of getting shot, picking up more charges, and more. so simply, yet, good riddance to bad rubbish. burglars are the worst! glad the right guy got what he deserved.

couple of boxes)
1/2 dozen .40cal boxes of 25 @ $40/per box USC.
Plenty of shot gun shells though.Time for a 12ga boys.Used to stock up on ammo there every trip.

Another Lincoln Parker

First, God bless you Officer, for your dedication even off duty. Thank God you weren't harmed and that you got the bad guy. You are a hero to us here. And to the 18th District, you are amazing Police Officers! Especially your Tactical Officers! You have no idea how much we do appreciate the protection you provide. You are amazing and always there for residents here.

Second, this event occurred approx. 4 blocks from my 1st floor apt. and 2 blocks from where I bought groceries on Lincoln around 7pm last night.

Every time I leave my unit, I lock my front windows. Also, when I take a shower I lock my front windows. I have double locks on my apt. entry door and a peephole.

When returning home from errands, I watch all around me. As I climb the steps to my place, I check the entire area around my building incl. the street to see if someone is hiding. I hold onto the building front door tight as I face the street from inside my building while I shut the building front door closed so nobody can grab it and get inside the building.

I lock my unit door and take my cellphone with me every trip up and down into the basement laundry room.

I'm 61 and I'm that scared of what happened 1/2 a mile from me.

There were 4 home invasion robberies in the very next block to mine within past year.

There was a mugging of two young women right outside my building, one of whom was hit by the muggers car.

There was a drug house in this area which the 18th District Tactical Unit was instrumental in getting rid of.

My next door neighbor was assaulted and beaten by someone who broke through the entry door she was holding open.

Our 18th District Officers know Lincoln Park isn't as safe as the naive would like to believe.

For any Lincoln Park resident reading this, especially the younger women, know that the bad guy is waiting in the shadows and that he and/or she will climb into your open windows. They wait in alleys. They wait for you to come back from the bars drunk in cabs and get you as you walk toward your apartment buildings. Don't wait to take extra precautions. Protect yourselves better!

And to our Officers, be safe. Get home safe each day! We love you!

So...

With all the glad tidings aside...

Are you good people still co-signing Rahm's War against the very Police you need to try and keep you safe from the possibility of "Catered To Constituents" similar to this one climbing through YOUR window and having their way with you and yours?

Heh...

It's a new day... These bastards aren't content anymore with "hitting a lick" and "getting little."

Nope... Not at all...

They SEE the end result of an intentionally destroyed Police Department and rejoice in it.

Which means?

They'll climb through your window and have a fun, multiple hour/day visitation doing to you, in you, on you and yours, WHATEVER pleasurable thing (to them) that enters their sadistic and corroded minds.

Now would be a VERY GOOD TIME to ask Rahm where did over 4000 Policemen disappear to over the last 15 years...

Good luck with that while you good people are intentionally reduced to swatting at the two-legged unpleasantness climbing through your windows or jumping out of the shadows.

*Crime is down!*

*We have "right-sized" the department and have "enough" Police. We're still working on deploying them "efficiently.*

It's a bad joke and it's on you good people of this city.

Be mindful... Rahm's War against The Police and their concerns is also a war against you good people who pay the freight to make this city go.

Rahm figures if he expends copious media capital to cast "Those greedy, racist, brutal, out of control Cops" as the bad-guys in the eyes of the good people of Chicago, then you guys wouldn't mind so much if Rahm and McPanderer "reallocated" you good people out of your paid for share of Police presence/service to keep the West and South Side rev'runs and alderfools quiet and out of Rahm's hair so he can focus on setting up his North Shore, Gold Coast, New Yuck and Hollywierd big money contributors in prime positions to carve up Chicago and sell off municipal assets for THEIR joy, pleasure and profit.

You good people WILL NEVER GET AN HONEST ANSWER OR ACCOUNTING FROM RAHM as to what he has planned for this city and why it's so important for him to keep you good people in the dark about SO MUCH of what he's doing.

Think about it good people...

Why was it so important for Rahm to pick a very unnecessary fight with Police, Fire etc., as soon as he announced for mayor?

Never you mind the 21 year saga of serial municipal thievery to the tune of an estimated $12 to $15 BILLION by the previous administration, a culture of political and media corruption and a crime and public safety problem that has rendered vast swaths of this city into free fire zones and places where only criminals, the desperate, the crazy and The Police dare go?

Rahm and his ilk are actually quite fearful of the traditional ties through the sacrifice of blood, sweat and tears that CPD has to this city.

Culture, tradition, true loyalty and duty mean nothing to him if it isn't for him and his hollow, craven ilk.

He tries desperately to convince the good people of this city that they're ill served by those things which are representative of CPD.

Rahm has no time for such old fashioned things... They get in the way of his agenda.

So... How goes Rahm's War?

The Police are the enemy.

So are the good people who pay the freight to make this city go.

Reverse engineer this.

There many fewer than there used to be. At least 15%, most likely around 20%. Around 2000 there were near 500 officers assigned to 018. around 75 of those were "detailed" to various units and hidden jobs all over. Some in 018, some in outside units, some in secret squirrel locations.

Some officers were completely unknown to officers who worked in the district. They were on the worksheets but no one had ever seen them. "Detached services" etc. And the Cardinal's detail.

If you live there and pay taxes, rest assured you have fewer officers protecting your family and property than in 2000. But crime is down.

Rahm has covered this shortage by cutting the budget to match the officers on hand and then declaring the department is fully staffed. Like Il Duce making the trains run on time in Italy. Whenever the train arrived was declared the scheduled time. Or the shyster suit maker who grabs the suit from the rear and grips the cloth as he tells you it fits so fine and looks great on you.

One thing you should learn never even to accept are any numbers released by the City of Chicago. Makes Enron look like a paragon of accuracy and Bernie Madoff the epitome of honesty.

TRUTH!

The City of Chicago is desperately short police officers and doesn't want the populace to realize how endangered they are due to this manpower crisis.

What district do you live in? I will post the number of assigned officers and what the manning strength was in 1995,2005,2005,2010.

This will illustrate how serious this issue is.

Harvard Went Looking For Gun Control Support...

They were stunned!!

"Indeed, “data on fire‐arms ownership by constabulary area in England,” like data from the United States, show “a negative correlation,”10 that is, “where firearms are most dense violent crime rates are lowest, and where guns are least dense violent crime rates are highest.”11 Many different data sets from various kinds of sources are summarized as follows by the leading text:

[T]here is no consistent significant positive association between gun ownership levels and violence rates: across (1) time within the United States, (2) U.S. cities, (3) counties within Illinois, (4) country‐sized areas like England, U.S. states, (5) regions of the United States, (6) nations, or (7) population subgroups . . . .12

http://www.law.harvard.edu/students/orgs/jlpp/Vol30_No2_KatesMauseronline.pdf

Then what is the real reason they want to take away our guns?

Governments are well known to hide their mistakes by claiming 'security concerns' and labeling the information secret.

Tons and tons of mistakes, embezzlements, illegal spying, and the like are done and then buried as information that would harm the nation.

Every boondoggle imagined can and is hidden this way. And then what numbers are released are fudged.

Yes that gives you mucho confidence in the government, right?

And yet so many are willing to give up their freedoms for some kind of vague promise of 'safety'.

As Benjamin Franklin said, 'Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.'

And they surely will get nether.

To the citizen who wants to know how many officers patrol a district or neighborhood, go to a beat meeting. You can ask there, or find out how many beats there are in the district. Then figure at least 1 police officer, sometimes 2, per car. That's it. If you feel there should be more police, tell your alderman next time he/she comes around asking for votes.

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND ALL THINGS DECENT AND HONORABLE!

If you have those CPD manpower numbers from 1995 thru 2005, PLEASE FORWARD THEM TO SCC!

To hell with the local media...

Maybe the national media outlets will be interested in tying lack of Police manpower/presence to why the adopted hometown of POTUS is a free fire zone that would make the Taliban, Pol Pot and Joe Stalin jump, giggle and clap like giddy school girls.

The good citizens of this city are in very real danger...

It is a duty to shine the light on this danger.

Quite a refreshing post. First, best wishes to the P.O. and know you did a great job.
Secondly, thanks to the citizens who took the time to come on this blog to thank this Officer and ALL of the Chicago Police Officers who are out on the street every day, doing the right thing. I'm a born & raised south sider, who has lived his whole life on the south side & spent 27 years working in south side districts and I must say, we'd NEVER be thanked for this such incident. It's nice to know there are citizens who actually like the Police and respect what we do day in & day out. We may bitch & moan, but when push comes to shove, we'll go above and beyond.
BE SAFE!!

The real reason is control. You can control an unarmed population. These socialists always want to disarm people before sending them to work camps. Free Americans are their worst nightmare.

What the hell is going on here?

Everybody all of a sudden decided to appreciate the few Police they have left?

Rahm won't be happy about this...

Hey! Frannie Spielman!

Time to run another slanted, anti-Police hit piece so Rahm can take back the momentum in the public opinion wars...

Gotta set the table to bust those Cops down to indentured servitude so they don't get the funny idea that the people of Chicago actually give a shit about them.

"Those too old, too angry, bitterly clinging Coppers might give the people a core to rally around and fight us back! We can't allow that because we have too much money that can still be made here in Chicago!"

The whole point is to KNOW how many are REALLY out there, not to speculate and use 'wishful thinking' numbers.
And they are far lower than your formula. Many of those beats aren't manned at all, and that is the whole point of getting a legitimate answer.

I live across the alley and I too would like to say a really big THANK YOU to the officer involved.

I have often said that the only thing that will ever get the message across is when we start sending them back in Englewood in body bags.

The revolving door of the Cook County criminal justice system is certainly broken way beyond repair.

One of the issues with community support is pre conceived notions of us citizens who live in 18, 19, 20 etc as 'libtards' and 'sheeple'. I know of a number of instances when I've personally thanked an officer if only to try to illustrate to my children who are present that the real heroes of daily life are those who aren't celebrities or athletes but rather the ordinary person who takes on extraordinary duties to serve and protect at great risk to themselves. More than once my gratitude has been met with a sarcastic response that myself, family, and neighbors have gotten 'the police we wanted,. While that is true for some its not for all and some of us have the capacity to pay attention, think critically, anf interpret the bs that comes from the 5th floor of city hall.

That being said I will continue to thank and personally address each officer that I come across because while I may live amongst some sheeple, I'm wise enough to know that I'm not strong or brave enough to do what you all do, and I'm not experienced enough to realize the magnitude of sacrifice in so many areas that being a officer consists of. Once again, thank you for helping to provide a lesson to my impressionable children of what a real hero is all about (same to all first responders, dispatchers, etc). Oh ya, one more thing, Fuck you Rahm you miniature chode.

I hope you are not a police officer because if you are, and those words or thoughts left your feeble mind onto this blog - then you are the reason this department has manifested itself into what it is...a bunch of lazy or uninterested officers who see "dude" and do nothing. That officer acted because he lived in that neighborhood but also because he is the "police." I pray, if you are an officer that one day you find the courage to "act" as that officer did when confronted by an animal and as an officer befitting this once great department. Stay safe!!

All you have to do give the details and he will get it in his personnel file.

He is a native south sider and still works in 004. Nice job Greek Boy!!!
