63 Officers Suspended

  • Eleven months after a November 2012 car chase that involved 104 police officers and ended with two deaths, Cleveland Police Chief Michael McGrath has announced that 63 of the officers will be suspended.

Of the 104 officers, 75 broke rules and 63 were suspended for excessive speeding and failing to request permission to take part in the chase, McGrath said Tuesday.

The 13 officers who fired the 137 shots are not among the suspended, though they may still face disciplinary and possibly even criminal charges, authorities said.
If the chase tapes aren't already out there, they probably will be shortly. This must have been some egregious shit to have 104 officers involved, 63 suspended and a number of supervisors suspended, demoted or terminated. And criminal charges still pending? Holy crap Batman.

I'm just surprised that the chief out there has been allowed to keep his job after that pursuit fiasco.
Bad enough he was allowed to 'retire,' and still keep on being the chief (aka double dipping), but now this? What's the justification for keeping him on after this?
Does Cleveland have the same political structure as Shitcago (nothing to see here people, move along now?)

the san antonio police chief vowed to break the law by arresting anyone open carrying a long gun to an upcoming open carry rally. open carry of such a weapon being legal in san antonio.

the word on the street is that the police union down younder stated that they ain't gonna arrest no-one for said offense.

so now the police chief retracted his threats and says that he will allow this -- just this one time.

did you take an oath to uphold the constitution or to the will of some tyrant we ask ourselves

The citizens and politicos of this Country want you to do nothing! The police are the bad guys, plain and simple. Not sure why the message isn't sinking in for some of you!? Don't get me wrong, I still do my job, just not proactively. Hate to say it, but many of these people deserve the savagery. Let the bosses call off the chase, and then fuck it, go to Starbucks & get a skinny vanilla latte, and tell war stories about how it used to be.

137 rounds fired!!! Don't these guys realize that ammo is both scarce and expensive. Someone needs to spend some range time. It reminds some of us that during the days of the sixgun, cops were not so quick to lay down a hail of ill aimed lead. Maybe it would not be a bad thing to go back to the good ole faithful S&W six shooter.

If it was an unarmed minority who was chased & shot in Washington D.C., no investigation whatsoever and by the end of the day, you're called a hero.

I remember the tact team in 025 participated in a chase from 3400 N. Central. They went north and then to I-90 West and went all the way down to Elgin.

When will people on this job wake up? This is not a game. This isn't the movies.

RE: San Antonio, open carry of long guns is legal on the streets of Texas. That is a state law. Cities and counties are not allowed to usurp state gun law. So the City of San Antonio, cannot pass a law or ordinance which is in conflict with state law. The current Chief of Police in San Antonio is a political appointee.

75 broke rules, including 63 suspended, 75 less 63 is 12. 13 fired shots. Does this mean 1 or more of the 13 is in the clear, or just that j-schools don't require basic math, much less statistics?

Belly,

I realize that and agree. The difference being that there was NO protest from Jesse, Al, Bobby Rush, Holder, Obama, et al, asking why an "unarmed" motorist (with a baby) was shot to death. Absolute silence. Quite the contrary as that same night, the D.C, Police Chief labeled all involved as hero's.

It's an anomoly that I may never see again.

With not a scratch or ding despite (photos shown on all the news reports) the numerous reports of said "deadly weapon" crashing through a barricade

employees have to follow the rules their employers set for them or they get punished.

that so many employees thought it was OK to flagrantly violate the rules like this suggests to me a huge failure of leadership.
