Here's Part of Your Raise

  • Former Mayor Richard Daley offered in inside look at Maggie Daley Park Monday.

The space in Grant Park is still under construction, and is dedicated to Daley's late wife who lost her nine-year battle with metastatic breast cancer on Thanksgiving Day in 2011.

Daley led an Ideas Week tour of what will be Chicago's newest park and offered NBC 5 exclusive access.
You can bet Channel 5 isn't going to ask a single question about the parking structure repairs underneath that make up a large part of that #55 million.

Not excusing the lack of questions about the abysmal failure of the Grant Park Garage beneath, due to the rush-rush of trying to complete Millenium Park before the millennium occurred, but it has been covered in the past, when the 'new park' was announced last year. Everyone just ignored it.

Maggie has been dead for less than two years and ol' Ritchie is steppin' out for at least a year.......I wonder if the ill tempered son has expressed his displeasure to his old man about this. He's been known to make his dad "fall off his bicycle" on more than one occasion.

One of many reasons why I am thinking about relocating to New Jersey. Some of their larger PDs are hiring experienced cops. I hear it is a beautiful state, government is pretty well run. What is not to like about it?

The Daley family has looted this City, left us with a failed school system, collapsing infrastructure, and major debt, and now as a final Farewell F@#K You; they leave us with a $55 Million Dollar Turkey which will surely have major cost overruns! And we continue to vote Democrat! We Deserve Whatever They Decide To Do To Us. We have allowed ourselves to be subjects rather than citizens.

I still think naming a wing of the county jail after Maggie Daley would have been more appropriate.

The lower parking garage work was completed last year. I believe that work was somewhere around $5-10 mil. Walsh Construction was the GC.

But here's the kicker! The company that owns the parking structure sued the city because they had an agreement, kind of like a "no compete" clause, where the city wasn't allowed to open up another parking garage within a certain distance of this one. Then the Aqua building opened on Columbus Dr along with their public garage underneath the building.

The parking company that owns the millennium garage won the lawsuit because of that and they were awarded somewhere around $20 mil!

You can't make this stuff up!!!

Daley is a millionaire several times over and should have funded that project himself in so-called "honor" of his late wife. After all, he does make a six figure salary on the board of directors for the Coca Cola co- that's change in his pocket combined with the TWO pensions he is collecting, one as ASA for ONE YEAR, and the other as mayor. That being said, there was about as much love between those two as Kennedy and Khrushchev during the cold war. It amazes me how our illustrious mayor and council constantly cry about the "sacrifices" we must make because of the state of the economy and how we can't afford certain expenditures. However, they have no problem using tax dollars to fund the Daley's memorial, the DePaul stadium, the ridiculous bike lane project, private police details for the former mayor and his family, certain aldermen and our current mayor, issue a million dollar grant to Ceasefire and it's group of "reformed" gang members, and let's not forget the generous 5%-12% pay raises emmanuel gave his staff immediately after he took office- the list goes on. At the same time, they willfully denied OT pay for those of us who worked the NATO summit to the extent of us having to pursing a court order to procure what should never have been an issue in the first place; we are still waiting for that check after 2yrs. Additionally, the city is currently appealing the state's decision that mandates it to contribute the funds it owes to our pension; if they do not comply, the state will divert it's funds that would have gone to the city directly to the pension. The city's claim is that this would create a "hardship". No infrastructure improvements in DECADES, with bridges and a sewer system that pre-dates WWII, all falling apart. Daley bares most of the blame for allowing this mismanagement and neglect to go unabated for the last 20 years. He should be imprisoned just like his Detroit counterpart for his role in defrauding the taxpayers. Emmanuel is just continuing the legacy, for now. There is a consistent pattern of political welfare here; they get elected, obtain wealth and financial security through either direct or indirect benefits of the office they hold, while all consequences to the taxpayer are negligible. Then they move to another elected/appointed position and continue the same, or retire as a consultant/advisor for a private sector company. An absolute scam at our expense.

Rahm gives 50 million to the Maggie Daley crime family park. 70 million to DePaul basketball gym. Then takes away health care for city retired employees and tells everyone the city is broke. Thanks Mayor PINNOCCHIO

The sad thing is I bet Richie rich feels that he's done no wrong just like rod blowagoat did. Rod got the short end of the stick because the corruption was getting too close to Obozo and he had to be taken out. All of these clowns should be in cuffs, especially Obozo.

Where is all the stuff with Jane Byrne's name on it?

First female Mayor.

Does not count because she would not let little Richie have the Mayor's office when he demanded it the first time around.

There were a few things around town until shortshanks had them taken down.

What a baby.

What was the cost overrun on the original Grant Park garage and Millennium Park, bet there'll be huge overages for Maggie's Park...and the City is broke. Funny how the construction companies are doing so well.
So if its true that Detroit is going to auction off some of their art treasures, perhaps the giant Fist (bump) statute will go, being the ever benevolent Rahm, he ought to buy it for Maggie's Park as a symbol of the struggle she faced trying to run that flim-flam sham defunct charity, After School Matters.

Wasn't this the same park daley originally wanted to move the Children's Museum to?

There was a lot of bitching about it, so it didn't happen.

He must've had some contractor friends at the time, so he's apparently gotten his wishes after all.

Hopefully they'll bury him there. We'll know right where to piss.

◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇

Jaded as a life-long citizen of Chicago the way I see it, Daley allowed the other parking garage knowing it violated the non-compete because that way not only would Walsh Construction, the Aqua Bld and parking lot operators be sending checks to Daley in his retirement..so would the law firms.

They can't steal taxpayer money unless it's pissed away.

$55M would have been but a fraction of his net worth. You are correct. If shanks wanted that damn park for the deceased wife, he should have paid for it.

I wonder if the girlfriend will be at the dedication? Hmmm?
